JUNE 30 1997 EVENING

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The Republika Srpska Presidential Cabinet issued the following communique, which SRNA transmits in its entirety: "On June 28, 1997, upon her arrival from London, at about 19:30 hrs, the Police of the Republic of Serbia, without any explanation, detained RS president Biljana Plavsic her chief of cabinet and chief of escort, at the Belgrade airport. After two and a half hour detention of the RS President at the Belgrade's airport Surcin, the Serbia's police escorted the RS president and her associates to the border between the Republic of Serbia and RS, at Raca border crossing. "

SARAJEVO - The president in the B-H Presidency, Momcilo Krajisnik, talked today with the US envoy for the former Yugoslavia, Robert Galbard about the implementation of the Dayton agreement and commitments from the Sintra agreement. "We cleared out many things, but the issue of police, formulated under the Dayton agreement Annex 11, remained unresolved. I requested a more detailed introduction into the programme, for I was not clear as to problems between Serb police on the one, and SFOR and IPTF on the other side", stated Krajisnik. "As far as RS is concerned, some solutions, which are intended to be imposed, can be only interpreted as a deep interference into professional work of the Serb police", he assessed.

BIJELJINA - The RS Army (VRS) General Staff announced that SFOR has rapidly stepped up its activities in the past two days on the Banjaluka-Pale road, namely near Brcko, Pale and Han Pijesak, where they set up a large number of check points with reinforced heavily armed staff. "SFOR checks passengers and vehicles, which greatly impedes the traffic and brings annoyance among the residents, in addition to several cases of mistreatment of VRS members", announced the VRS General Staff, and added that the VRS did not provoke such behaviour on the part of SFOR troops.

BANJALUKA - The Democratic Revival of Srpska (DPS), expressed its concern over the IPTF intervention in Brcko, and asked the explanation with the view of prevention of further uncontrolled events. "The IPTF behaviour during the recent intervention in Brcko exceeds their mandate described in the Annex 11 of the Dayton agreement, according to which the IPTF has no mandate to use force and is obliged to respect the RS Constitution, laws and customs", says the DPS.

ZVORNIK - Deputy head of the Zvornik police, colonel Mane Djuric concluded at the session of the Zvornik officials that in spite of pressures coming from SFOR and IPTF, the security situation in Zvornik was satisfactory.
