MAY 24 1997 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The celebration of the Republika Srpska (RS) University of Sarajevo's Patron Saint, Sts. Cyril and Methodius, started by the breaking of the sacrificial lamb in the presence of numerous guests from RS cultural and public life.

PRIJEDOR - Twenty-five percent of registered voters reflects a small interest of citizens for the local elections, concluded the Local Electoral Commission in its session. "The main reason is in insufficient media coverage, season of agricultural works and additionally complicated voters registration process by OSCE and Provisional Electoral Commission", assessed the Local Electoral Commission.

ZVORNIK - In the registration centres of the municipality of Zvornik, about 15,000 or one third eligible voters registered themselves, while the biggest turnout of voters was reported in registration centres in Drnjaca and Koziluk.

SRPSKA KOSTAJNICA - Because of omitting Srpska Kostajnica from the list of municipalities for the up-coming local elections, a meeting of protest will be organised by the Municipal Board of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS), on May 26, at 10:00hrs.

AMSTERDAM - Majority of world donors, sponsors and decision makers are directly linked or affiliated with some of Islamic lobbies throughout Western Europe and USA, so the largest portion of funds reaches Federation through these channels. The Dutch press concludes that it is illusory to expect that better days are coming for RS and that it will get the pledged part of funds even if it acquiesce to meet all political ultimates set by the West.

SYDNEY - The Austrian media warn that a final untying of the Serb-Croat- Muslim knot might rest with the renewal of conflict in B-H. While the Muslim Army openly threatens RS, Croats are playing even more dangerous game for peace and RS. As they are offering the RS Serbs their alliance, planning to unstitch the "patched" B-H, the Croats are waiting for an opportunity to together with their old allies reach the Drina.

HAMBURG - A rigorous way used by German authorities to repatriate refugees, neglecting their origin can only contribute to the general destabilisation of the situation in B-H, writes the "Frankfurter Rundschaou". In its reference to the expanded correspondence between US and German politicians on return of refugees, the German paper reminds that the USA regard the return of refugees and displaced persons to places in B-H where they would constitute a minority a premature and dangerous move.

TREBINJE - Twenty pilgrims from Serb Herzegovina set out from the Tvrdos Monastery for a thousand kilometres long pilgrimage to the Hilandar Monastery on Sveta Gora, to mark the missionary journey of Saint Sava.

ROGATICA - The RS soccer senior representation beat the Portuguese representation by 2:1 in a friendly match played at the "Mladost" stadium in Rogatica.
