NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - President of Republika Srpska (RS), Biljana Plavsic, talked in Banjaluka with the charge d'affaires of the US Embassy in Sarajevo, Michael Parmly, on the part of the Dayton agreement referring to the return of refugees and displaced persons. "Both parties consider the issue as the most difficult one in the Dayton agreement. We also dealt with the ways for an easier solution to the problem in order to have the situation on the ground improved", stressed the RS president after a two-hour talks. The charge d'affaires of the US Embassy to Sarajevo confirmed his visit to Banjaluka was realised upon Washington's request, and added: "We appreciate the talks with the RS representatives, especially with those like Biljana Plavsic, who are highly regarded, and with whom we had very useful talks on extremely delicate issues".

SRPSKI BROD - The president from Republika Srpska in the Presidency of B-H, Momcilo Krajisnik, solemnly put into operation the oil refinery in Srpski Brod, which due to the war damages has been out of operation for six years. Along with a great number of citizens, the ceremony was also attended by the RS Parliament president Dragan Kalinic, prime minister Gojko Klickovic, the ministers in the RS Government, as well as by a great number of businessmen from RS and Yugoslavia. On this occasion president Krajisnik pointed out that the opening of the refinery is the first step in the starting out of the RS economy and struggle for a better future, but also a result of the Agreement on special parallel relations with Yugoslavia".

DOBOJ - The economic officer in the Government of the Czech Republic, Vatroslav Mah, announced in Doboj that the office for economic cooperation between RS and Czech should be opened soon. According to him, this office is to improve and extend the cooperation between RS and Czech Republic.

DOBOJ - The members of the RS Commission for POW Exchange and Missing Persons started a field survey on Ozren and Vozuca in tracing for remains of fallen Serb soldiers and civilians.

HAMBURG - The German weekly political paper "Spiegel" finally conceded that together with other media in Germany, it was taken in by horrifying stories of false witnesses in the legal process against Dusan Tadic, found guilty by the Hague Tribunal for alleged war crimes in the Trnopolje camp in the former B-H.

ZURICH - The Swiss Government failed to implement an ambitious plan of return of refugees to RS and B-H Federation, according to which 8,000 refugees were supposed to leave the country by May 1. Unofficial data indicate that only 2,500 refugees returned to RS and B-H Federation. A new deadline for a mass return of refugees is late August.

SARAJEVO - The head of the Regional High Representative Office in Mostar, Martin Gerod, confirmed that he asked for SFOR intervention on the Mostar hydro power plant barrier, reports Muslim Radio-Sarajevo. SFOR troops prevented armed clashes on the hydro power plant barrier, since Croat security disabled Muslim Power Management personnel to enter the facilities.

BEIRUT - The Libyan minister of interior, Michael Mir, stated that assassination on Pope John Paul II had been prepared during his stay in Lebanon. According to AFP, Mir received information on plans on assassination from Canadian and Italian Interpol services.

BEOGRAD - The director of the machinery and foundry "Jelsingrad" from Banjaluka, Vid Jovisevic, stated at the 41st International fair of technology in Belgrade that his company would use this fair to renew cooperation with its former partners and to present new ideas made after the war. "Jelsingrad" is presented with five machines, of which three are entirely new products, and the remaining two with innovations.
