    At its session held on June 7th, the Serbian Government defined the draft Law on Local Self-Government and submitted it to the National Parliament for debate and approval.

    The Government also discussed a number of current issues regarding agriculture, implementation of financial discipline and suppression of "gray" economy.

    [02] SOCIALIST PARTY SECRETARY GENERAL COMMENTS THE INITIATIVE FOR DIRECT SECRET VOTE PROCEDURE IN FEDERAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

    Ms. Gorica Gajevic - Secretary General of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) remarked that the SPS proposal that "the President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia be elected by direct secret vote of all citizens, is a logical one in view of the fact that the presidents of both Serbia and Montenegro are elected according to the same procedure", reads a "Politika" article published on June 7th.

    In an interview for Radio-Television Serbia , Ms. Gajevic remarked that this is "an initiative that will be approved if not now, then eventually, because it is the direct consequence of the efforts to strengthen the constitutional system of the federation."

    "We have advanced the proposal at this moment, because SPS is the promoter and the effecter of all positive changes in the legal system - both economic and social ones." -- Ms. Gajevic observed.

    [03] MINISTER OF INDUSTRY ZIVOTA COSIC RECEIVED THE AMBASSADOR OF PR CHINA

    Mr. Zivota Cosic - Serbian Minister of Industry, met on Friday (June 6th) H.E. Ju Ankang, Chinese Ambassador to Yugoslavia, in view of his imminent visit to China.

    Minister Cosic will be heading the Serbian delegation, that will take part in the VII Industry and Trade Fair in Harbin, capital of Heylungjang Province, and will conduct official talks in Harbin and Beijing June 12- 18th. The presentation of the Serbian industry in Harbin has been organized by the Serbian Chamber of Trade and Industry and the "Belgrade Fair".

    During the audience, Minister Cosic stressed the importance of improving political and economic ties between the two friendly countries. He also indicated expectations that this traditional presence at the international fair in Harbin and the presence of eminent businessmen, general managers of important Serbian companies - mostly from the metal processing and confectionery industry, will help a better cooperation and the implementation of numerous mutually fruitful projects.

    Ambassador Ju indicated satisfaction for the forthcoming visit of the numerous Serbian delegation to China, especially because of the prospective business talks in the Heylungjang Province, that Serbia has been cooperating for years,

    The talks were attended by the members of the official delegation: Mr. Branislav Vujinovic, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Economy on behalf of the Serbian Industry and Mr. Slobodan Dodic head of the Cabinet of the Chairman of the Serbian Chamber of Trade and Industry.

    [04] SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC'S CANDIDACY FOR FEDERAL PRESIDENCY ENDORSED

    Today's dailies published numerous telegrams of support for the candidacy of Slobodan Milosevic for Federal President.

    Satisfaction regarding the candidacy and the proposal for a direct secret vote procedure has been expressed by numerous companies, municipal and country Socialist Party branches, political parties and individuals.
