    [02] DEPRIVED AND HUMILIATED

Embassy of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in Macedonia has raised its voice because of the cases of desecration of Serbian cemeteries in Macedonia. Protests were also sent by the Union of Associations of Veterans from the Liberation Wars of Serbia from 1912-1920 and yesterday on the same occasion the communique was released by the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church. In the communique condemnation is expressed of the destruction of Serbian cultural and historical monuments and warning given that in this former Yugoslav republic constitutional status of Serbs is not solved yet, which is a precondition for solution of all the other problems - Serbian schools, legalization of the eparchies of the Serbian Orthodox Church, cultural institutions, mass media, participation in the state authorities. The attempts to influence the actual government in Macedonia to open schools in the Serbian language, did not bear fruit, except in the village of Kuceviste, reads the communique, with the remark that all this is accompanied by demonization of Serbs as occupiers in these areas. It is further stated that in Macedonia there is not a single newspaper or radio station and television channel in the Serbian language, that Macedonian authorities did not allow establishment of church municipalities of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Serbs in Macedonia are the poorest part of the population because the regions in which they are living are neglected, so in this way there is a premeditated instigation for the migration of the Serbian population. There are no Serbs either in the legislative authorities while the Association of Serbs and Montenegrins in Macedonia and the Democratic Party of Serbs in Macedonia are under constant pressure by the authorities, exposed to intimidation, reads the communique of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

[03] UNACCEPTABLE VIEWS OF THE UNHCR

"Belgrade office of the UN High Commissariat for Refugees (UNHCR) offered in Geneva a draft document in which as a permanent solution for the majority of refugees in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia integration is implied, but in this respect there were no consultations with the competent institutions of our country", stated Bratislava Morina, Commissioner for Refugees of Serbia, upon her return from Geneva and the regional meeting of the Commissariats for Refugees of Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, both entities of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the representatives of the international organizations and donors. Prejudice that the largest number of refugees will remain in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is in contradiction with the general determination of the UNHCR and the international community for repatriation, as the best solution for refugees from the territories of former Yugoslavia, but is also contradictory to the economic potential of the FR of Yugoslavia, says Morina. The data are showing that an enormous majority of refugees wishes to return, especially the refugees from Krajina, and in this respect especially the UNHCR should have a more active role with the Croat authorities. On the other hand, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is economically exhausted during the last years. The approach of the UNHCR which is supporting integration is endangering the elementary existence of refugees, especially without a clear humanitarian aid of the international community, stated Marina and especially warned that the termination of the program of aid may bring about a humanitarian catastrophe.

[04] THE LIST OF A POLITICAL NATURE

The latest and now reduced list to 150 names of suspected Serbs from the region of Baranja, Western Srem and Eatsren Slavonia, who are accused by the Croat authorities of war crimes, is causing great excitement in the ranks of Serbian political parties and organizations. It is not published yet who is on that list, because allegedly negotiations are still taking place between the Serbian and the Croat sides and General Klein, but Zagreb daily "Vjesnik" has nevertheless published several of the most renown names. They are Slavko Dokmanovic, Mile Pavkovic, Goran Hadzic, Ilija Kresojevic, Mile Knezevic, Rade Gvojic, Grujo Amidzic, Milos Stanimirovic, Radoslav Stanimirovic and Nenad Zigic. While commenting this list of the suspects, president of the Alliance of Serbian Organizations and deputy in the Croat Parliament (Sabor) Dr. Milorad Pupovac says: "The list is of a political nature, and only in part based on legal grounds. On this list there are persons who according to legal indicators should not be there. The initial list of Serbs suspected of various crimes contained some 3,000 names, to be gradually reduced at the pressure from the international community. With what aims and motives it was compiled speaks also the fact that on the list were the names of persons already deceased and of persons living and working in Canada.

[05] GOVERNMENT OF SERBIA PRESENTED DRAFT VERSION OF THE LAW ON OWNERSHIP TRANSFORMATION

Government of Serbia yesterday presented to the public draft version of the new Law on Ownership Transformation, with the accompanying Rule Book on evaluation of the value of capital. This has practically opened the public debate on one of the most important systemic and reform laws and has invited all the interested political parties, associations of businessmen and employees, scientists and professionals to give their contribution with their suggestions, proposals and remarks over the next month, for this Law to be of as high quality as possible. "It is our aim with this Law, most of all to contribute towards better efficiency of the economy and through the offered models for transformation of the social capital to give additional motivation to those employed and all the others who were in the past giving their contribution to the creation of the social wealth of our country. Therefore, the priority in the ownership transformation must have those who have created this social property, but also all the employed, both past and present, who have through the development of social activities and work of the state contributed to the normal functioning of the economy and society. This approach has made it possible for the proposed solutions to be supported by the trade unions, chambers of economy and all the other interested participants", said at the presentation of this Law Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Mirko Marjanovic. He further underlined that it is the wish of the Government to provide legal framework for the ownership, business, financial and organizational transformation of the large-scale enterprises for which the state and society are especially interested. "We are convinced that through the ownership transformation on the basis of the proposed solutions, the situation will be finally resolved regarding the ownership transformation of the Serbian economy, which is an important prerequisite to establish between the state, banks and transformed enterprises new and stable relations which exist in all the modern market economies. This is an important condition for establishment of a lasting economic and social security", underlined Prime Minister Marjanovic.

    [06] HASTY SETTLING OF KNIN

Croat pro-government newspaper "Slobodna Dalmacija" underlines yesterday not without pride, that Kistanje are alive again, because the first settlers have arrived. Kistanje is soon to be renamed Janjevo, after a village in Kosmet from where the Croats are arriving into this centuries- old Serbian region. By the colonization of Kistanje it is scheduled in the first phase to accommodate 200 inhabitants in 54 completely reconstructed houses, and until the end of May another 124 buildings will be completed for some 300 Croat families from Kosmet. Local authorities in Kistanje, at one time an Orthodox village whose population escaped in the face of the Croat military offensive "The Storm", are only waiting for the settlers to settle down and immediately will submit to the Croat Parliament (Sabor) their official proposal for the change of name Kistanje into Janjevo and thus delete the last Serbian trace in this part of Krajina. Milan Djukic, president of the Serbian National Party, warns that the state of human rights of the remaining Serbs and Serbs refugees is not deteriorating from day to day, but from hour to hour. "We have enormous proof that government of Croatia is not only failing to repair destroyed and plundered houses of its citizens Serbs, but is not even allowing them access to their homes into which it is hastily settling Croat refugees from Bosnia-Herzegovina and settlers from Kosmet", says Djukic.

[07] TERRIBLE TESTIMONY OF A RAPED SERBIAN WOMAN

By the hearing of six new witnesses yesterday before the five-member judicial council of the Municipal Court of Banja Luka the main trial was continued of Alija Izetbegovic, indicted for war crimes against civilian population, prisoners of war, sick and wounded. In the so far the most terrible testimony given by the witness Persa Vujic from Zenica, she was telling of her rape committed against her by the two Muslims, Senad Kapetanovic and a certain Kahriman, after having previous beaten up herself, her father and mother in law. At the question of the attorney what connection she sees here with Alija Izetbegovic, Mrs. Vujic said: "For my tragedy and tragedy of the other innocent Serbs the guilty is exclusively Alija Izetbegovic who was ordering arrests and persecution, and after this rape many Serbs from Zenica in masses started to escape into the Serbian territory".

[08] ENTIRE COPIC'S HERITAGE TURNED TO ASHES

In Hasani on Grmec Mount, the native village of the great Serbian writer Branko Copic, Muslim army has erased all trace which would remind of this great man. This was verified by the representatives of the Foundation Branko Copic who have for the first time after the war, visited Copic's native village, which according to the Dayton Agreement was returned within the composition of the Republic of Srpska. There is no more the center of the village, and all Copic's heritage is in ashes. Memorial school where there was a school desk with engraved initials of young Copic, was burnt to the ground, just like the poet's native house and the reconstructed Orthodox church. His memorial rooms were also turned to ashes and the poet's bronze statute which was placed in front of the school is now missing. Representatives of the Foundation and former close associates of Branko Copic, say that it is the case of a pathological hate of Muslims towards Serbian people, its tradition and culture. Serbs will return again to the village of Hasani, just like they returned long ago when Turks expelled them, and with them the memories of Branko Copic will become alive again, said to the guests Srecko Radjenovic, president of the municipal assembly of Srpska Krupa.
