[01] NO ECONOMIC BASIS FOR DE-STABILIZATION AND DINAR DEVALUATION
At the session of the central coordination team of the Government of the
Republic of Serbia for economic recovery, it was stated yesterday that good
economic results were achieved in the past year. Industrial production has
grown for 11 percent, exports for 27 percent and prices over the last six
months were higher for only 19.1 percent. On the basis of the objective
indicators and consistent management of the firm monetary policy in the
past period, it was determined that the de-stabilization of the dinar
exchange rate at the beginning of this year is of a temporary character and
that it is considerably caused by non-economic factors and ungrounded
inflatory expectations. Since during this year, under the conditions of
planned substantial growth of production and liberalization of the foreign
trade trends, exclusively the fall of prices may be expected in many
sectors, there are absolutely no economic grounds either for de-
stabilization or the devaluation of the dinar. Businessmen have firmly
supported the established targets of economic policy for this year -
stability of prices and of the exchange rate, considerable growth of
production and exports and a higher standard of living of population. They
have also insisted on measures to be undertaken for the respect of firm
financial discipline and for an energetic suppression of shadow economy and
smuggling.

[02] BILDT'S OFFICE DISSATISFIED WITH THE AMOUNT OF AID FOR REPUBLIC OF
SRPSKA
Office of the high UN Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina Carl Bildt is
dissatisfied with the amount of aid which during the past year was sent to
the Republic of Srpska, stated yesterday Bildt's spokesman Collum Murphy.
"This aid should be greater this year. We are trying for as much aid as
possible to reach ordinary people in the Republic of Srpska, who in many
areas are living under very difficult conditions", said Murphy at the press
conference in Sarajevo. Last year the Republic of Srpska received only two
percent of the overall international aid for Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Murphy
stated as the reason for this the refusal of the Republic of Srpska to
participate at the past Donor Conference. "After the formation of the joint
institutions of government and an active participation of all the sides in
their work, also the attitude will be changed of the international
community towards the distribution of funds for reconstruction", said
Murphy.

[03] DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA CELEBRATED
In Brcko the Day of the Republic of Srpska was celebrated yesterday through
a number of events and its Saint Protector's Day - Saint Stephen. Dayton
Peace Accords have given the Republic of Srpska a high degree of
sovereignty and the Republic of Srpska shall respect these accords and will
not allow itself to be denied any of its rights prescribed in them, and
shall not allow "for any of their faulty interpretation to be to the
detriment of the Serbian national interests", said Biljana Plavsic,
President of the Republic of Srpska at the official ceremony. After over
one year of peace, the Republic of Srpska must venture on the path of
recovery, said Plavsic and called upon the citizens and competent
authorities to do their utmost in order to overcome all the interior
difficulties with which the country is faced after four years of
destruction. She also called upon the international community to allocate
funds designated for the recovery of Bosnia-Herzegovina in a more just way
than it has done so far. While speaking of the arbitration on Brcko,
Plavsic underlined the importance which this town is having for the
survival of the Republic of Srpska and warned that "those who are playing
with the issue of Brcko are again tempting the phantoms of war in these
areas".

[04] WORLD MEDIA ON THE YUGOSLAV CRISIS
The publishing house "Medjunarodna politika" (International Politics), in
co-production with the Newspaper and Publishing House "Sluzbeni list SRJ"
("Official Gazette of the FR of Yugoslavia"), Faculty of Law and Faculty of
Political Sciences of the University of Belgrade, Institute for
International Politics and the Institute for Contemporary History, has
offered the reading public extensive survey under the title "World
Bibliography on the Crisis in Former Yugoslavia". This is an original
"inventory" of several thousands of newspaper articles, commentaries and
scientific studies and publication in the world, which have appeared in the
period 1991-1996, with the main emphasis on the crisis and war conflicts in
former Yugoslavia. According to the author of the preface Prof. Dr. Ranko
Petkovic, this book is also a multi-dimensional inview into all of the past
Yugoslav communities established in this part of the Balkans and Europe.

[05] PROMOTION OF COOPERATION BETWEEN YUGOSLAVIA AND THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH
AFRICA
President of the Chamber of Economy of Yugoslavia Mihailo Milojevic and the
newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa in Belgrade Mr.
Timothy Karikary Maseko had talks about the promotion of the economic
cooperation and possibilities for establishing new trading and production
links between the two countries. Milojevic called upon the representatives
of the chambers and enterprises in South African Republic to visit our
country in order through direct contacts to identify economically
interesting fields for cooperation. Ambassador Maseko announced that an
inter-governmental agreement on trade may be signed soon and added that for
the improvement of economic relations it is necessary to adopt also the
agreements on the protection of investments and elimination of double
taxation.

[06] WE ARE OPENING DOORS FOR GOOD AND STABLE RELATIONS
"Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is a very important country of the Balkans
and thus the opening, or rather re-opening, after thirty years of the
Embassy of Israel in your country is a great challenge for a diplomate",
stated yesterday the newly appointed Ambassador of Israel in Belgrade Mr.
David Sason. We are opening doors in order to create good and stable
relations at the governmental, economic and cultural levels, because the
similarities which exist between our peoples are offering possibilities for
us to learn from one another through a two-way exchange of experiences,
which will secure for us stability and development in peace, said Sason.
While underlining that ahead of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is now a
new era of hope and the end of hardships caused by four years of war
environment and sanctions, Ambassador Sason said that the endurance of the
Serbian people is qualified as yet another similarity with the Israeli
people, and that "several decades of silence did not impair the feelings"
which the Israeli and the Serbian people are nursing towards each other.
Israeli Ambassador especially underlined the interest of business people in
Israel to cooperate with the Yugoslav businessmen.
