• [01] NEW ECONOMIC POLICY MEASURES

At its session yesterday, the Federal Government - chaired by Dr. Radoje Kontic, passed a number of concrete economic policy measures - within its competence - previously defined with the republican governments and the National Bank of Yugoslavia.

The Feeral Government also defined a draft law on the confirmation of the agreement between FR Yugoslavia and Hungary on trade/economic relations and cooperaqtion. The document defines the framework for the payment and exchange of goods and services, as well as for all the other forms of coopeartion between the two countries. The agreement also envisages the mutual application of the most favored country status in trade, in accordance with GATT. (Politika, July 11, 1996)

Federal Prime Minister - Dr. Radoje Kontic, stated at a press conference held yesterday that FR Yugoslavia is being progressivelly acknowledged in Europe and throughout the world, due to its contribution to the formulation and imlementation of the peace agreement for Bosnia..

Judging positively the participation of the Yugoslav delegation at the recent Summit of the Central and East European Countries, held in Salzburg, Mr. Kontic stressed that that the participants expressed expectations that Yugoslavia will maintain its key role in strengthening peace and stability in the region. (Borba, July 11, 1996)

[03] TALKS WITH THE MANAGERS OF THE BANCO DI ROMA

Federal Deputy Premier - Mr. Jovan Zebic and the First Vice Governor of the Yugoslav National Bank - Mr. Zarko Trbojevic talked yesterday in Rome with the managers of the "Banco di Roma" about the prospective inter-bank cooperation and financial transactions.

According to dependable sources, the talks between the Yugoslav officials and the representatives of one of the most influential and reputable Italian banks, were quite successfull. (Tanjug, July 11, 1996)

[04] THE "ADRIATIC OIL PIPELINE" IS NEWLY OPERATIONAL

Yesterday in Belgrade a long-term contract on the use of the Adriatic pipeline for the transport of crude oil from the terminal in Omisalj, on the isle of Krk in Croatia to the Yugoslav oil refineries in Pancevo and Novi Sad.

The contract has a duration of five years and has been signed by Mr. Dragan Tomic on behalf of the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS), and by Mr. Ante Cicin-Sain - General Manager of the "Adriatic Oil Pipeline". (Tanjug, July 11, 1996)

[05] KOSOVO IS PART OF SERBIA

In an interview published by "Bujku", a newspaper published in Albanian in Kosovo, the UN High Representative for Bosnia - Mr. Carl Bildt, rejected the separatist option of Kosovo being transformed into and "independent state".

"What I am concerned with is related to the human rights in Kosovo. I am also making efforts to establish a dialogue which would allow a sattisfactory level of rights for all. This should be done in accordance with the principle of respect for the existing state borders, because the experience in other areas taught us that the principle of inviolability of the borders is a very important one" - said Mr. Bildt. (Politika Ekspres, July 11, 1996)

[06] THE DIREST SITUATION IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS

The Humanitarian situation faced by the refugees and the host families in Yugoslavia is worse than it ever was in the past five years - said the Serbian Commissioner for Refugees - Ms. Bratislava Morina and the Representatives of the Yugoslav and Serbian Red Cross at the joint meeting held yesterday.

It has been stressed that the most important thing at the moment is to secure food and hygiene kits, because this month the EU Humanitarian Bureau ceased to deliver aid for refugees accomodated by families.

Ann appeal has also been launched to the donors in the country and abroad to help the refugees and the families that gave them shelter. (Politika Ekspres, July 11, 1996)

    [07] IN MEMORY OF TESLA

Academy Member - Dr. Dusan kanazir - Serbian Minister of Science and Technology, unveiled yesterday a memorial plaque placed at the "Nikola Tesla" Institute in Belgrade.

The ceremony marked the beginning of the manifestations celebrating the 140th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Tesla, great scientists, humanitarin and inventor, who laid the foundations and contributed enormously to the evolution of modern society. (Borba, July 11, 1996) LONDON IN FAVOR OF BOSNIA

Representatives of the member countries of the Contact Group for Bosnia, coonvened yesterday in London to try to define new steps of the international community in the realization of the Dayton Agreement and solutions for the problems faced in the preparations for the autumn elections in Bosnia.

According to diplomatic sources, the meeting called by the British Foreign Office, was staged to deal with the growing confusion in the international community policy regarding the elections in Bosnia and the widening gaps between the leading countries. (Borba, July 11, 1996)

[08] APARTMENTS SEIZED BY THE AUTHORITIES

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Jewish community in Sarajevo is "slowly loosing the battle for its survival in this town".

The American newspaper stresses that numerous Jews left Sarajevo - especially during 1992 - and that those that have stayed in the city have been confronted by the Bosnian authorities, primarily their property rights and the growing Moslem nationalism.

The conflict culminated when the representatives of the government headed by Alija Izetbegovic refused to return 272 apartments rightfully owned by Sarajevan Jews. The owners abandoned the apartments 4 years ago after signing contracts on temporary use by third parties. The daily lists dozens of such cases.

It is symptomatic that the private apartments of the Sarajevan Jews, located almost exclusively in down town Sarajevo, were not given to refugees but to influential military and government figures - parts of the Izetbegovic entourage. These officials have thus secured for themselves large and expencive apartments, that they obviously have no intention of leaving, regardless of the fact that the rightfull owners signed official contracts with the Sarajevo Government. (Politika Eekspres, July 11, 1996)

[09] KORDIC LIVES PEACEFULLY IN ZAGREB

The Zagreb weekly "Globus" revealed in its latest edition that Dario Kordic, sought by the Hague International Tribunal, lives peacefully in Zagreb.

The fact that Kordic resides in Zagreb "means that he is accessible to Croatian authorities" and that "...he should be arrested and extradited to the Hague in accordance with the law on coopeartion with the hague Tribunal ", stresses the article.

Besides Kordic, five more Croats have been indicted - Tihomir Blaskic, Mario Cerkez, Ivica Santic, Pero Spoljak i Zlatko Aleksovski.

At the present only General Blaskic is at the Hague (having gone there voluntarily). Several days ago Zlatko Aleksovski has been arrested in Split, and he is supposed to be extradited. (Borba, July 11, 1996)
