  • [01] Prime Minister of Romania visited the DACIA automotive plant

    The Prime Minister of Romania alongside the Ambassador of France to this country visited the DACIA automotive plant of the town of Pitesti. Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu examined the programme of restructuring the plant and the future prospects of DACIA which has associated with the RENAULT Corporation of France. The Romanian General Manager of the DACIA plant, Constantin Stroe, said the plans provide for DACIA to become very shortly a very good car, second only to those made in France by Renault. The Cabinet of Romania will discuss the documents next week providing for fiscal facilities with a view to encouraging the production and distribution of DACIA cars. The managerial team of DACIA asked for Cabinet support for penetrating new markets by the adoption of adequate policies.

    [02] Negociations for privatizing refinery PETROMIDIA

    The residence of FONDUL PROPRIETATII DE STAT - STATE OWNERSHIP FUND - sees start of negociations for the privatization of PETROMIDIA refinery. Of the offers received the only one admitted by the Committee of privatization was that of ROMPETROL GROUP BV of Rotterdam. Offers to buy PETROMIDIA were also advanced by PETROL IMPORT EXPORT of Bucharest and BTS Partners Inc. Carlton of the United States of America. The privatization of PETROMIDIA will be made only after the social capital is increased. The State Ownership Fund has 70 per cent of the stock of PETROMIDIA.

    [03] Romania has announced the launching of a new loan worth 200 million euros

    The banks Schroder, Salomon, Smith, Barney and ING Barings were entrusted with obtaining this loan for Romania with pay back deadline in five years. This follows the 150 million euros loan of last September which is already in the coffers of the National Bank of Romania and which was obtained by the Deutsche Bank having pay back deadline in three years. The new loan will be obtained in the very near future and it is connected to the conditions offered by international money markets.

    [04] Programme of vaccination for the institutionalized children of Romania

    Health Ministry, the National Agency for the Protection of Romanian Children and the Turkish Romanian Bank signed an accord on Tuesday for the vaccination of institutionalized children and with the Turkish - Romanian bank having already offered the funds necessary to buy 5,000 doses of vaccines.

    [05] The first meeting of the Interdepartment Group for the relaunching of relations with Yugoslavia

    The first session of the Interdepartment Group for the relaunching of relations with Yugoslavia unfolded at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. The area is quite large, said the coordinator of the group who is secretary of state with the Foreign Affairs Ministry of this country Eugen Dijmarescu. Funds of the Romanian Export and Import Bank can be used for the reconstruction activity needed in that country. The Cabinet of Bucharest is also requesting the assistance of the Pact of Stability of the European Union for unfolding these projects.

    [06] The Government of Budapest voices its belief that the elections of Romania will be fair

    State political secretary of the Hungarian Foreign Affairs Ministry, Zsolt Nemeth, told the correspondent of RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI to the capital city of Hungary that the Cabinet of that country voices its belief that the future elections of Romania will be free and democratic. Hungary, the guest of the programme added, was supporting democracy and would not interfere in any way in the unfolding of the elections in Romania: Hungary has a set of values according to which it cooperates with a country or another, underlined the representative of the Hungarian Cabinet.

    [07] Inauguration in the town of Cluj Napoca of the regional center of European information for the north western area of Romania

    The Information center is financially supported by the PHARE PROGRAMMES of the European Union. Fokion Fotiadis was present at the ceremony of inauguration and said that the good administration of European Funds would have to lead to a bettering of the economic and social balance of the Romanian life. The Ambassador of the European Union to Romania Fokion Fotiadis also said that in connection with the visas for the Romanian citizens enabling them to travel to the countries of the European Union the European forums entrusted with the solving of this problem are hearing all arguments in favor of renouncing all visas for the Romanians that travel to the European Union countries.

    Session of the Supreme Council for the Defense of the country during which an analysis is made of the National Annual Plan of training and preparations for joining NATO.

    The President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, is giving well known Romanian phisicians the National Orders THE STAR OF ROMANIA and FOR SPECIAL MERITS in recognition of their performances in the domain of transplanting.

    Joint session of the two Chambers of the Romanian Parliament devoted to the presentation of the report of the Prime MInister after ten months since taking over the office of PM.

    Meeting of the high officials of the countries members of the Organization of Economic Cooperation of the Black Sea devoted to the preparation of the Ministerial Council of the organization which will take place in Bucharest next Friday.

    Minister of Agriculture Ioan Muresan is in Poland for the conference of the agriculture ministers of CEFTA members.

    The members of the Central Electoral Bureau have their first working meeting for the elections of 26 November.

    The Romanian book exhibition at the Frankfurt book Fair launches the first EMINESCU MULTIMEDIA ENCYCLOPEDIA.
