The Civil Alliance is asking the Presidents of the Senate and of the
Chamber of Deputies to speed up, by abiding to legal provisions, the
process of approving the members of the National Council for the Study of
the Archives of former Securitate by the Legal Committees of the Parliament
and then the voting of the entire body by the two chambers of the
Parliament of Romania. The Civil Alliance is also asking the two Presidents
to intervene and determine the inclusion of the Council for the Study of
Archives of former Securitate in the budget for the year 2000. According to
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI the letter of the Civil Alliance also mentions
the fact that the law on the access to the citizens to their own Securitate
dossier would have to be operational before the nomination of the
candidates running for local elections. The Civil Alliance is of the
opinion that nominations made in the absence of application of provisions
of this law even by the ruling parties would prove lack of interest and
political will. RADOR
