  • [01] Miron Cozma is under investigation

    The miners' leader Miron Cozma was arrested in the town of Slatina along with other union leaders Romeo Beja and Dorin Lois who were accused of association in defying Court ruling and in committing crimes. Miron Cozma and Romeo Beja were investigated at the Criminal Investigation Direction within the General Police Inspectorate in connection with the vents on Tuesday during the miners' march to Bucharest. Until 12:35 hours prosecutors and policemen team issued a 24 hour arrest warrant for 46 of the miners who took part in the incidents in Isalnita and Stoenesti. After the clashes in Stoenesti the police took some 400 people into custody of which 141 were retained to givee statements to prosecutors. RADOR, February 18

    [02] Miron Cozma's attorneys say they would bring the case to attention of the Court in Hague

    Miron Cozma's attorneys and the Mining Union Federation said they would sumbit all necessary documents for disputing the Romanian Court's decision over condemnation of Miron Cozma with the International Court in Hague. They said this decision was politically motivated. RADOR, February 18

    [03] Opinions by the Human Rights Association - the Helsinki Committee

    The Human Rights Association - the Helsinki Committee said that Miron Cozma could not be seen as political prisoner as the crimes for which he was condemned by the Supreme Court were not perpetrated now but back in 1991. The Association said that Miron Cozma's rights were not violated as the case is about enforcement of a final Court decision. RADOR, February 18

    [04] Request for investigating Senator Corneliu Vadim Tudor in connection with 7 more cases

    The Romanian Justice Minister has submitted a request to the Senate's Judiciary Commission over investigating Senator Corneliu Vadim Tudor in connection with 7 more cases examined by the General Prosecutor's Office. The Chairman of the Commission Razvan Dobrescu said these cases would be examined during a separate investigation when they would analyse the possibility of lifting the Senator's Parliamentary immunity. These 7 cases are different from the other 11 the Commission proposed to be discussed in the Parliament. RADOR, February 18

    [05] National Pitcoal Company asks the miners to resume working

    The executive leadership of the National Pitcoal Company has asked the miners to resume working. They have also asked the Mining Union League in Valea Jiului to set up its team of negotiators who is aimed to mediate clauses of the new labor contract. During these two days working was stalled losses amount to nearly 7 billion lei. RADOR, February 18

    [06] Sailors' Union wants a private meeting with Prime-Minister Radu Vasile

    The Executive Committee of the Sailors' Union said it wanted a private meeting with Prime-Minister Radu Vasile to seek for solutions aimed to help solve conflicts ion the Romanian commercial fleet. Sailors want to meets the ministers of Transports, Finance, Labor and Social Protection and the Chairman of the State Ownership Fund. In the letter to the Prime-Minister they say a riot of some 6.000 sailors is imminent. RADOR, February 18

    [07] The situation at the Clujana company

    The Administrative Council of the Clujana company decided that half of its employees will be on holliday without payment two weeks a month starting on February. This measure was taken due to the lack of orders. RADOR, February 18
