This was agreed on yesterday's meeting of both countries Ministers of Transport, who said their experts would meet in Belgrade till May 20 latest to finalise the Draft Agreements on Transport. FR Yugoslav Minister of Transport Zoran Vujovic and his Macedonian counterpart Dimitar Buzlevski, stated that the regulation of the transport connections would contribute to the improvement of the bilateral economic cooperation. Vujovic stressed that this was a complete fulfillment of the obligations of FRY for good cooperation with neighbours, set in the Dayton Accord.Vujovic informed the Macedonian Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski on the proposal of the Yugoslav Prime Minister adoe Kontic to meet and outline further bilateral cooperation between the two countries. [02] MACEDONIA AND FRY WILL ESTABLISH MOST PRIVILEGED NATIONS STATUS IN TRADEIn his comment on the talks with Macedonian President Gligorov in Bucharest, FR Yugoslav Prime Minister Radoe Kontic stated that Macedonia and FRY had agreed to establish a status of most privileged nations in the mutual trade and to open Embassies in Belgrade and Skopje as soon as possible. Kontic emphasized that he and President Gligorov found the Agreement on the Normalisation of the Relations very significant, not only for the development of the bilateral relations, but also for the peace and stability in the whole region. He also said the talks with President Gligorov at the 'Cran Montana' Forum in Bucharest were of a great importance.[03] SERIOUS WARNING FOR BELGRADE'The international community supports the stand of Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina that they, besides FR Yugoslavia, are equal successors of the former SFRY property,' stated Croatian representative on succession issue Bozo Marendic yesterday, reported Macedonian Radio. He stressed that the protest letter sent by the four countries had been supported by USA, Germany and a number of European countries, which was, according to him, a serious warning for Belgrade and setting an obligation on FRY to change their attitude on succession.[04] OPPOSITE REACTIONS TO THE INCIDENTS IN KOSOVOFR Yugoslav Minister Tomislav Raicevic claimed that the political and economic situation in Kosovo was improving, despite the latest terrorist activities. According to A-1 Television, he also said 'a spirit of living together had been spreading in Kosovo, and the forces against disturbed relations had been strengthening.'On the other hand, the intellectuals from Albania, and those of Albanian nationality from Kosovo and Macedonia, appealed recently to the Presidents of USA, Russia, Germany, France, UK and Italy to force Belgrade to start the negotiations that would provide Kosovo with a status of an independent country, as the tensions there were increasing and could go out of control. The appeal, published by the Pristine daily 'Rilindja', read that the Albanians in Kosovo were forced to open confrontation, provoked by the Serbian militant chauvinists, due to the fact that the peaceful resistance of their leader Rugova had been discredited. Kosovo as a sovereign, free, open and neutral state was pointed out as the only solution, which is why Belgrade had to be forced to a dialogue as soon as possible. Belgrade media reported the statetement of the British Ambassador to FRY Ivor Roberts for the Voice of America, saying that the Kosovo issue was an internal issue of FRY. He also said that his government did neither support the idea for a Great Albania, nor any secession of Kosovo and unilateral changing of the borders. Serbian Helsinki Committee on Human Rights yesterday announced that the Serbian authorities did not allow a group of Kosovo Albanians to enter FRY, although they had all the documents necessary. The Committee warned that such actions were against the law and discriminatory. [05] SUSANNE AGNELLI AND JAQUE SANTER ON A BALKAN TOUR SOONThe current EU Chairman Susanne Agnelli and the President of the European Commission Jaque Santer will visit Skopje, Tirana, Belgrade and Zagreb on May 16 and 17, informed Macedonian Television yesterday. The main purpose of their visit will be initiating a regional cooperation, anticipated by the regional approach of the Union. As Macedonian Television reported from Brussels, one of the reasons were the negative reactions to this approach in Albania and Macedonia. The European diplomats will, therefore, have contacts with the authorities in these countries to exchange opinions and ideas on establishing concrete mechanisms that would enliven the regional cooperation.[06] FRENCH INTEREST IN THE SITUATION IN MACEDONIAMacedonian President Kiro Gligorov and the French Prime Minister Special Envoy Guy Sorman yesterday talked about the reforms in Macedonia, the development of the democracy and the bilateral relations between Macedonia and France.During the talks the French diplomat had with Macedonian Prime Minister Crvenkovski, they exchanged opinions on the current situation of the local economy, of the Balkan countries' economies, and on the possibilities for improving the Balkan economy cooperation. Crvenkovski informed his guest on the privatisation process in Macedonia, on the transformation of the banking system and on the realisation of the political and economy reforms. [07] PLEASED BY THE DEVELOPMENT OF MACEDONIAN-GREEK RELATIONSHead of the Hellenic Republic Liaison Office in Skopje Alexandros Mallias and Macedonian Parliament Vice President Blagoja Filipovski, in the talks yesterday, expressed their satisfaction with the development of the bilateral relations, especially in the field of economy.As it was officially announced, they also discussed the possibilities for a cooperation between the two countries' parliaments. [08] MACEDONIAN RADIO - NEW DETAILS OF THE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT INVESTIGATION'Makfax' reported the comment of Macedonian Radio on the investigation of the assassination attempt on Macedonian President Gligorov, which revealed some new details. The author, covering the information sources, claimed that Ivo Janchev, the Head of the Skopje subsidiary of 'Multigroup', was not the first person killed who had been mentioned in the context of the assassination attempt. The first victim had been, allegedly, somebody from Bratislava. It was from this town that the Macedonian police obtained an information about the woman who had been driving the car-bomb. She had been arrested by the police in Skopje. Her photography had been recognised by six witnesses, but they had not been absolutely sure when they saw her. According to Macedonian Radio, the woman suspected was an inn singer, who latter made a plastic surgery.The comment also said that another car-bomb had been placed in front of a certain institution on October 2 (the day before the assassination attempt took place), but that it had been removed when the President canceled his coming there. The author of the comment wondered who could have been so well informed about the daily activities of the President, if not somebody very close to him. Besides revealing other weaknesses of the investigation, the Radio accused the Macedonian police for appointing young and inexperienced people in charge of that matter, and for not having the State Security involved. [09] MACEDONIA TREATED A MID-DEBTOR COUNTRYThe international finance institutions approved $395 million credits to Macedonia in 1994 and 1995, of which $220 million have been used, mostly to support the payment balance of the Republic. $226 million were spent for returning credits, and Macedonia is, therefore, treated as mid-debtor country. This was said on yesterday's press conference, given by Macedonian Vice Premier Ljube Trpevski. He added that DM 487 million had been returned to the foreign currency savers, and that total foreign currency reserves of the country had been increased for $215 million. The 11.1% budget deficit from the GNP had been reduced to 1.8%, according to Trpevski, and Macedonia will have to return $434 million during the next five years. He stressed that the Government would mainly intend the credits for the small and medium enterprises in the forthcoming period.[10] CRVENKOVSKI - 1996 WILL BE CRUCIAL FOR MACEDONIA'1996 will be a crucial year for Macedonia and will be a turn of the events if we manage to maintain the increased production, the first one after 10 years,' said Macedonian Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski at the Macedonian Trade Union Council session yesterday.Crvenkovski stated that Macedonia had overcome an extraordinary difficult period, that of 1992-94 being the survival one, after which a strong national currency was created and the battle over inflation was won. The main task in the next period will be, according to the Prime Minister, to win the unemployment problem. Crvenkovski said the Macedonian Trade Union felt the national and state interests, and was a real partner to the government. He stressed that the country did not need an obedient Trade Union, but a constructive one, that would play the role of a 'state social conscience', in which direction it was moving already. President of the Trade Union Zivko Tolevski said they were following the situation in the country and could not peacefully watch the workers becoming poorer and poorer. He emphasized that only with an active participation of the Union, changes would be positive, which was why they would fight against being neglected as a social partner in the social and economic processes in Macedonia. [11] HOLIDAY PROCLAMATION OF THE TRADE UNIONOn the occasion of May 1, the International Workers' Day, Macedonian Trade Union have issued a Proclamation, in which they appeal to the workers in the country to continue the fight for their dignity, as it is the only thing that could make the country rich. It also read that the Union would require economic measures that would change the situation in the sphere of the social production: respecting the collective bargaining agreements, regular payment of salaries and fixing the lowest salary, and struggling for work and social justice.The Trade Union will continue to fight against the misuse of the privatisation and manipulations with the bankrupt companies, concludes the Proclamation. [12] REASONABLE TERM TO SOLVE THE SITUATION IN KOMERCIJALNA BANKKomercijalna Bank Executive Board, at its session yesterday, decided to submit an application to the Macedonian National Bank Governor Borko Stanoevski to allow them a reasonable term by which the complex situation of the Bank would be resolved. As it was officially announced, this came as a result of the short three-days term the Governor had given for the General Manager to be released from duty. The term is too short because the Bank would have to decide on appointing an acting director, which has to be approved by the Governor, who is absent at the moment. 'We think the position of the Bank and the reputation it has in the country and abroad would be jeopardised in case such important personnel problem is improvised. This includes also EBRD, who recently invested its capital in Komercijalna Bank and appointed its representative to the Executive Board. The European Bank demands to be informed on the new situation, in order to determine its future attitude on the issue.Namely, due to the short term set, our foreign partner was unable to attend the Executive Board session,' concluded the announcement. [13] GOSHEV - COUNCIL OF EUROPE SUPPORTS THE REFERENDUM'The Council of Europe (CoE) supports the institution of Referendum and the respect of the Constitution and the laws. Therefore, the issue of the initiative for scheduling a referendum on early elections in Macedonia, signed by 218 thousand individuals, will be discussed by experts,' stated Petar Goshev, the leader of the Democratic Party, informed today's issue of 'Dnevnik'.Such was the result of the talks Goshev and Prof. Gjorgje Marjanovic, a member of DP, had with the CoE representatives in Strasbourg last week. According to the daily, Goshev said all of them had been surprised with the results of the signatures collecting, and that they were following the initiative. The Luxembourg delegation President Lenc Cornet even expressed readiness to carry out a monitoring in Macedonia, which would include the initiative. [14] VICTORY OF RIZVAN SULEIMANI FROM PDPRizvan Suleimani, a PDP candidate, won the additional elections in the 102 electoral unit in Skopje. He had won 448 votes at the repeated second voting round last Sunday, while PDPA-NDP candidate Sabahudin Mahmuti had won only 6.The total number of votes were: Suleimani - 5,601 and Mahmuti - 4,403. In case no objection is submitted till tomorrow, Suleimani will become a Member of the Macedonian Parliament. (end)mils news 30 April, 1996 |
