[01] MACEDONIAN-YUGOSLAV TALKS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

The Macedonian-Yugoslav diplomatic contacts in Belgrade continued yesterday.

There is still no official confirmation from the Yugoslav side about these talks. In yesterday's issues of the Belgrade press, there is no word about the contacts between Macedonia and FR Yugoslavia. Only a couple of electronic media broadcast the news from Skopje about the arrival of the delegation of the Macedonian Foreign Ministry to Belgrade, to continue the preliminary talks on mutual recognition. In addition, there was no information in Belgrade about last week's similar contacts, in Skopje.

According to official reports in Skopje, the Macedonian delegation left for talks in Belgrade on Monday, to continue the preliminary consultations over the normalization of the relations between the two countries, as well as cooperation in certain fields of mutual interest.

[02] TEGOVSKI AND PETKOVSKI APPOINTED AMBASSADORS

President Gligorov has appointed Jovan Tegovski, ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to the Kingdom of Belgium, as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to the EU. President Gligorov has appointed Dr. Vladimir Petkovski, ambassador of RM to the People's Republic of China, as ambassador to the People's Republic of Korea.

[03] AUSTRIA TO HELP IN INTEGRATION OF RM INTO EU

The President of the Republic of Macedonia Kiro Gligorov received the ambassador of the Republic of Austria to RM Kurt Spalinger yesterday, for a farewell visit.

It was concluded that the next step in the development of the good relations between the two countries is to hold more meaningful meetings, at the highest level. In this context, President Gligorov invited the President of the Republic of Austria Thomas Klestil to pay a visit to Macedonia.

Macedonia is convinced that Austria, as a member of the EU, will support Macedonia's integration into this association. The Austrian ambassador Spalinger emphasized Macedonia's great success on an international plan, stressing that Austria will support Macedonia's accession to the EU.

Ambassador Spalinger was also received by Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski and other high state officials.

[04] HEALTH INSURANCE FOR UNEMPLOYED REGULATED

Yesterday, following the talks between the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor and Social Politics, the Health Insurance Fund and the Republic Employment Bureau, an agreement was reached on the manner of payment of the obligations of the Republic Employment Bureau to the Health Insurance Fund. This has secured the necessary conditions to issue receipts for the payment of fees, and enables the use of health cover, at the expense of the Health Insurance Fund, for persons who are temporarily unemployed, and who have no other basis to acquire insurance.

[05] 60% OF ENTERPRISES WITHOUT BLUE CARDS

The majority regional services of the Health Insurance Fund have issued blue cards to some 40% of the private subjects. "Although incomplete, these are nevertheless satisfactory results," the director of the Fund Boshko Naumovski said at yesterday's news conference. He underlined that changes have been made to the law in order to overcome the chaos in the payment of contributions. We were aware that problems would be caused in the regional services and the enterprises as well, however, in order to prevent a break-down of the system, we had to be consistent in the implementation of the decrees of the law. The fact that a large number of citizens have still not received blue cards, he says, is owed to the fact that they did not pay the contributions on time and that many enterprises, although paying their obligations, waited for the last day to report to the regional services.

[06] PREMIUMS FOR STRATEGIC PRODUCTS DETERMINED

The state Budget for this year will intervene in the agriculture with 415 million denars, mainly for the stimulation of certain agricultural products, in an effort to balance out the announced needs of the market. These interventions are determined in accordance with the project of the macroeconomic policy for 1996. However, as minister-spokesman Gjuner Ismail stressed at yesterday's news conference, at its last session, the Macedonian Government adopted the text on the amendments to the law on the stimulation of the development of the agriculture this year, as well as a number of decisions. They mainly deal with the payment of premiums and the determination of agricultural products on which premium will be paid.

In accordance with these decisions, this year, premium will be paid for the domestic production of sunflower, up to 25% of the purchase price, and 20% of the purchase price for the oil beet and the sugar beet.

The premium for corn, which is introduced for the first time, will have to be additionally determined. The premium for milk will be 3 denars per liter, as well as goat's milk with a fat content of 3.2%, and sheep milk, which contains at least 6% fat. If the milk contains a larger percentage of fat, the premium is raised accordingly. The stimulation of these products through the payment of premium comes as a result of the increased production. As an example, last year's production of oil beet amounted to 17,000 tones, and this year, it is expected to be doubled, that is, to reach around 30,000 tones.

This year, the Government decided to abolish the premium on wheat, which was set at 2 denars for every purchased kilogram from the domestic production. However, as Ismail emphasized, this will not have a reflection on the bread and flour prices.

[07] INVESTMENTS - FISH POND BUILT IN KRIVA PALANKA

A private fish pond for the production of Californian trout has been built near the town of Kriva Palanka, in the north-eastern part of Macedonia, on Stanecka River. Local investors invested $ 200,000 of their own money in this project. The fish pond is expected to produce an annual output of 10 tones of fish, which should reach a retail price of 250 MKD. Otherwise, the owners of the fish pond are also building a hotel with a fish restaurant near by.

[08] "TIKVES" - RECORD WINE PRODUCTION

The stock company "Tikves" from Kavadarci realized wine exports up to 16.3 million liters last year, the director of "Tikves," Vaso Andov stated.

The biggest wine importer from this enterprise is Germany, where 10 million liters of wine were exported, followed by Holland, Bulgaria and other countries.

The revenue from the export, Mr. Andov says, amounts to 9 million DEM, which is 21% more than last year.

[09] PRODUCTION OF TOOLS FOR TURKISH PARTNER

The Turkish company "Ilhas" is interested in the production of tools for its needs, which would be produced in the tool factory "Ohrid" from Ohrid, in the south-western part of Macedonia. The two firms are expected to sign an agreement to the value of 1.5 million DEM soon.

The tool factory "Ohrid" should produce tools for the production of three to four different types of telephones, which would be intended for the Macedonian and Turkish market, tools for the production of dish-washing machines, electric stoves and dryers, which would be used as a set in the households.
