UPDATE - LATEST NEWS (MIC - 19.25 P.M.)

  • FADIL SULEJMANI ARRESTED?

The Macedonian Radio broadcast the information received from Makpress this evening, according to which the rector of the Tetovo University Fadil Sulejmani has been arrested, while the president of the Albanian-American league, the former Republican congressman Joseph Diogardi has been banished from the country.

This information, however, was denied this evening by the Macedonian Television. Reliable sources claim that Sulejmani is in Tetovo and that he will hold a press conference tonight. The same source claims that Joseph Diogardi left Macedonia this morning, of his own free will.

Tonight, the PDP presidency condemned the police intervention, calling it an "act for destabilization of Macedonia and a direct attack on the inter-ethnic relations."

President Abdurahman Aliti blamed this on the political institutions in Macedonia and President Gligorov, who oppose the request for opening a university in Albanian language in Macedonia.

Aliti called on the Macedonian Albanians to "maintain the peace and quiet, so as irresponsible persons do not to take the situation in their own hands."

The radical leader Menduh Tachi stated this evening that people were still gathered in Mala Rechica. "We are trying to convince them to disburse, and I think we will succeed."

The number of injured persons has grown to 19, of which 9 are police officers. Emini Abdulselam (33) has died. One police officer is heavily injured and taken to the Military hospital in Skopje.
