[01] Britain Sends Military Vehicles, Heavy Guns for Possible Use in
Kosova
PRISHTINA, Feb 15 (KIC) - The British army began moving military vehicles
and heavy guns from Germany to Greece on Monday for use in a possible NATO
intervention in Kosova, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
About 400 vehicles, including tanks and armored infantry vehicles, were
loaded onto ferries in the northern port of Emden for transport to
Thessalonika, the British army said.
Nineteen British soldiers accompanied the vehicles and arms. The British
government said about 2,350 more soldiers were prepared to fly to Kosova if
necessary, AP reported.
NATO has planned sending 25,000-30,000 troops into Kosova to enforce a deal,
if one is reached at Rambouillet, France.
Saturday, 20 February 1999, has been set as the deadline for Kosovar and
'FRY'/Serbian delegations to reach an interim settlement for Kosova for a
three-year-period on the basis of a Contact Group plan.
[02] Serb Police Ill-treats, Kidnaps Albanians in Mitrovica
PRISHTINA, Feb 16 (KIC) - Many Albanians were stopped and ill- treated by
some 30 Serb policemen near the marketplace in Mitrovica from 19:00 through
22:00 CET on Monday, local LDK sources said.
Also on Monday, many policemen mounted a checkpoint in the "Ibri"
neighborhood, where many Albanian passers-bye were ill-treated.
Meanwhile, LDK sources said four Serbian policemen abducted two young
Albanians near the bus station in Mitrovica today morning.
Their names have not been reported yet. The policemen who kidnapped the
Albanians were with a car with license plates KM: 618-530, the LDK chapter
said.
A convoy of Serbian police forces left Mitrovica for Skenderaj today
morning, local sources said.
Yesterday morning, four Serb police APCs were deployed between the villages
of Zhabar i Ep&rm and Koshtov& e Bobit.
Serbian police forces have been routinely fining Albanian motorists in
Mitrovica. Two Serbian policemen, reportedly names Nenad Pavicevic and
Ratko Antonijevic, robbed Abit B. Jashari (51), resident of Mitrovica, of
2.050 Yugoslav dinars and 150 DM. He was eventually taken to the police
station in town and was released on condition he reported back to the
police.
[03] Eight Albanian Political Activists to Appear Before Serb Regime Court
in Gjilan
PRISHTINA, Feb 15 (KIC) - The Serbian-run district court in Gjilan was to
start the trial of eight local Albanian political activists today, the
chapter of the Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms (CDHRF)
reported.
The following Albanians have been indicted on trumped up, terrorism-related
charges: Avdullah Tahiri (1956), Ahmet Demiri (1964), Lutfi Haziri (1969),
Nexhat Bunjaku (1971), Ismet Hashani (1962), Ibrahim Oru^i (1968), Ekrem
Qerimi (1962) and Tajar Berisha (1954). They have been in pre-trial custody
since 15 October 1998.
The Serbian regime accuses them of having formed in 1997/98 a "diversant
terrorist organization" in Gjilan within the Kosova Liberation Army (U^K)
and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kosova (FARK).
A Serbian police convoy arrived in Gjilan from Ferizaj today morning, LDK
sources said.
