  • [01] Gunfire Reported in Malisheva Area Last Evening

    Serb forces continue looting and torching Albanian houses PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - Gunfire from various weapons was reported last evening in Malisheva and several villages in the municipality.

    LDK sources in Malisheva said there was gunfire shooting at the village of Carralluk& from 18:00 through 20:00 hrs, adding that there was intermittent shooting throughout the night and early in the morning today in the small town of Malisheva.

    Several shells landed in the village of Mirush&, report said.

    LDK sources reported yesterday that Serb forces continued torching Albanian houses in the villages of Drenoc, Bubavec and Carralluk&.

    Serbs firs loot the houses, then set them ablaze in the evenings.

    Only ten houses have remained intact so far in the village of Bubavec, LDK sources in Malisheva said.

    [02] Serb Troops Open Artillery and Machine-gun Fire in De^an Area Overnight

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - Serb forces pounded with machine-gun fire the villages of Strellc i Ep&rm, L&bush&, Isniq and the suburbs of De^an for several hours overnight, local sources said.

    Musa Berisha, head of the chapter of the Human Rights Council in De^an, said Serb troops have continued burning Albanian farmsteads and property in the area.

    From around midnight last night through morning today, Serb troops opened intermittent fire in the direction of border line with Albania. At around 2 a.m., heavy artillery fire was heard in the area, Mr. Berisha said.

    The human rights activist said that the Yugoslav aircraft flew overhead the area, especially along the border zone, during the whole course of last night.

    [03] Family Compounds Burning in Klina Villages in Wake of Serb Shelling

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - In the past several past days, Serbian forces shelled and continued torching Albanian communities in the Klina region, local sources said yesterday.

    The village of Ujmir was shelled Thursday, as well as the Buzhala family compound in Qabiq village, LDK sources said.

    After having been shelled by Serb troops, houses of the Prenaj and Lekaj family compound at Cerovik village were burning for the third day in a row on Friday.

    Many Albanian houses were burnt and destroyed inn Leskoc village of Klina on Thursday as a result of Serb shelling, LDK sources said.

    Serbian forces occupied the building od the "Shtjef&n Gje^ovic" elementary school at Zllaku^an yesterday (Friday).

    Serbs kicked Albanians out, those who were making preparatory work for the start of the new school year, scheduled for 1 September.

    Meanwhile, the body of Daut Bojaj, killed by Serb forces three weeks ago, was still lying uncollected in the courtyard of his home at K&rrnica village, LDK chapter in Klina said.

    [04] Shooting Reported near Police Station in Lluzhan Early Morning Today

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - Shooting from small arms fire was reported today for a quarter of an hour, starting at 6 o'clock in the morning, near the Serb police station in Lluzhan, 18 km north of Prishtina, LDK sources in Podujeva said.

    There have been no immediate reports on the pretext for this shooting incident.

    Police arrested Mehdi Bici, whose house is adjacent to the police station in the village straddling the Prishtina-Podujeva roadway, sources said.

    The LDK chapter in Podujeva said police forces sealed off the town marketplace area early in the afternoon today, and looted a considerable amount of merchandise. All people who happened to be in the marketplace had their identity checked.

    [05] Albanian Woman Found Dead and Buried in Radisheva

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - The body of an Albanian woman, Miradije Tahiri (44), was found Thursday in her native village of Radishev&, municipality of Skenderaj ('Srbica'), and buried the same day, local sources said.

    She was probably slain by Serb forces on 23 July. She was considered as missing since then.

    The body of the Albanian woman was found by her relatives in the courtyard of her house Thursday. Her body was reported badly mutilated.

    Her body could not be collected earlier as Serb forces were inside the village of Radishev& till 20 August.

    Twelve other Albanians were massacred by Serb paramilitary police forces a month ago, which was when Miradije Tahiri was killed, too.

    [06] Human Rights Council Learns Identity of Other Albanians Killed in Latest Serb Attacks

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - The Chapter of the Prishtina-based Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms (CDHRF) in Klina said yesterday that it has learned the identity of three other Albanians killed during the recent Serb offensives in central Kosova.

    Nazmi Gashi (27), Ramiz Gashi (26) and Xhafer Gashi, all from Sf&rka village, were killed in the fighting with Serb forces in neighboring village of Perqeva, the CDHRF said.

    Seven other Albanians, whose identify has not been made known, were wounded in Perqeva, the Council said.

    [07] Two Albanian Women Forced Enter into Serb Police Car

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - An Albanian woman and a girl were harassed by Serb police, and were later forced into their car in Mitrovica on Friday afternoon, local sources said.

    The LDK chapter in Mitrovica said the two women were halted by six policemen in the street at around 16;00. They refused to enter into their car, but were forced in soon, witnesses said. The LDK chapter could not learn the identity of the two women, noting only that they were Albanian.

    Earlier in the day yesterday, at the same location, the same police patrol opened fire in the direction of a young Albanian who refused to get into their car, the LDK said.

    Meanwhile, LDK sources in Mitrovica said two Albanian from Llausha village of Skenderaj, Jonuz R. Spahiu (54) and Ramadan B. Geci (49), were arrested by Serb police at a checkpoint near Mitrovica.

    The two men were forced off a bus commuting from Skenderaj to Mitrovica and were taken to the police station in the town. They are reported sill in custody.

    Four refugees from Skenderaj, sheltered with their relatives in Mitrovica, were arrested on Friday.

    [08] Two Convoys of Serb Troops Arrive in Mitrovica Today

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - A convoy of Serb military and police vehciles, including three military lorries, left Skenderaj ('Srbica') for Mitrovica at 8 o'clock in the morning today, LDK sources said.

    At midday, however, another convoy consisting of 11 trucks, 2 armored cars, 1 landrover and 2 other cars, all full of Serb soldiers and policemen, reached Mitrovica.

    This convoy also departed from Skenderaj.

    [09] Serb Police Detains Kosova MP's in Vushtrri

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - Two members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kosova, Osman Rama and Haki Ymeri, were held in Serbian police custody for over four hours in Vushtrri ('Vucitern') on Friday.

    Osman Rama and Haki Ymeri, chairmen of the local LDK chapters in Zubin Potok and Leposaviq, respectively, were arrested yesterday afternoon at a Serb police checkpoint in Nadakovc village near Vushtrri. They were on their way back home after having taken part in a regular meeting of the municipal heads of LDK chapters in Prishtina, chaired by President Ibrahim Rugova.

    Sources in Vushtrri said the two LDK activists and MP's were questioned about the LDK party activities and the Parliament of Kosova.

    [10] Grand Mufti of Kosova Harassed by FRYOM Security

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - Dr. Rexhep Boja, the Grand Mufti of Kosova, was harassed by the FYROM security in the Shkup/Skopje airport for four hours yesterday, his office said.

    Dr. Boja, who is also a professor at the Albanian-language Faculty of Islamic Studies in Prishtina, was on his way back home from an official trip to Istanbul, Turkey.

    Macedonian security officers seized his passport on arrival late in the evening Saturday, forced him to a corner of the airport, and questioned and harassed him for four hours.

    At midnight, Macedonian security escorted him the border crossing with Kosova, at the Hani i Elezit ('General Jankovic').

    The Islamic Community of Kosova (Bashk&sia Islame e Kosov&s) expressed its indignation over the FYROM security's behavior towards a top cleric, such as Dr. Rexhep Boja is.

    [11] Ka^anik Education Activists Harassed by Serb Police

    PRISHTINA, Aug 22 (KIC) - Scores of Albanians have been reported maltreated at a newly set up Serb police checkpoint near Ka^anik, at a placed called "Shokobare". This Serb police roadblock was established three days ago, sources in Ka^anik reported.

    Meanwhile, the LDK Information Commission in Ka^anik said Irfan N.

    Luma, principal with the local school at his village of Glloboqica, and Shefqet Guri, head of the municipal education authority, were held for several hours in the Serb police station in Ferizaj on Friday. The two activists were reportedly ordered by Serb police officers to use their authority and persuade the local population to surrender arms they allegedly possess. They were told they would face harsh harassment if the population failed to hand over weapons to the Serb police.
