[03] BLOCKED BORDERS ON B-H FEDERATION SOUTH
Mostar, April 1,1996 (Press TWRA)
Today between 1O:OO a.m. and
1:OO p.m. the Association of transporters of "Herzeg-Bosnia"
blocked the borders with Republic Croatia. The reason for the
blockade is that Austria, and from time to time Italy and
Slovenia too, does not allow the vehicles with Herzeg-Bosnia
plates enter. Today's blockade of the borders related only to
vehicles with B-H plates. The B-H Federation deputy minister of
traffic Pavao Boban claims that according to Washington accord,
as a transitional period, the existing administrative solution
will be in effect until the new one adopted, so that "Herzeg
Bosnia" plates are still legitimate. He expects that official
note will be sent from Sarajevo to Austria to confirm legitimacy
of "Herzeg-Bosnia" plates in Federation and international
traffic. The transporters threatened that if in two days time the
ban on access to EU countries is not lifted they will continue to
block all border passes with Republic Croatia. (end) S.K.
