[01] EIB President confirms continued cooperation with AlbaniaTIRANE, Sep 30 (ATA) - The President of European Investment Bank (EIB), Brian Unwin, confirmed to Finance Minister Anastas Angjeli in Washington on Wednesday that cooperation will continue and expand through huge credit sums.In the next seven years the European bank will invest $3.5 billion in the region, said Unwin. The Ministry of Information reported on Thursday that Angjeli, in this meeting with Unwin, was informed that the High Level Steering Committee had declared that the EIB has assumed the key role in financing the infrastructure projects, in the framework of the Stability Pact in the Balkan region. EIB is currently operating in Albania with six projects, mainly in infrastructure. According to the director of the district education department, Islam Gjana, the reconstruction of schools in Koder Lume, Breg Lume, Shtiqen and Myc Mamez, ought to have begun since long ago. So far, the private construction firms have not started works because those who claim to own the land do not allow the reconstruction, pretending that they too should profit something. Such a situation has caused that over 1500 pupils of these schools have not yet begun classes. The school blocking phenomenon over the last years has assumed broad proportions in the district of Kukes. Libraries will be reateestablished and classrooms are thought to be equiped with contemporary labs. The police forces took to the city's police station dozens of illegal emigrants. The current projects are analyzed in detailed way, their implementation with quick steps in the future is discussed in the 14th meeting of Southern Balkan initiatives. The three delegations confirmed that the projects are going on with the necessary rhythm and asked for their acceleration, by taking into consideration the new situations created in Balkan. The necessary to continue this initiative is closely connected with the need of further development of the three countries this corridor is passing through, and this initiative is a base for stability on the region of Southeastern Europe. The credit toward the individuals was 6.090 million leks, while toward the private subjects 10.344 million leks. According to the Albanian Bank, the credit in leks in the non financial public enterprises marked 1.194 million, while the credit in currency some 387 million. Meanwhile the credit in lek for the individuals was 5.040 million and the credit in currency 1.050 million.
