[09] Albpetrol reconstruction has resulted in production increase

TIRANE, September 7 (ATA) - By M.Pupa: The biggest oil Company in Albania, Albpetrol, has become more productive during this year.

Albanian Minister of Economy and Privatization, Ylli Bufi, told ATA on Tuesday that despite the problems following this company during the reconstruction phase that was carried out during the outgoing year, the main objective, that of transforming all the sectors in share-holding companies, is achieved by paving in this way the road towards privatization.

Approximately 857 tons a day are produced by this company during the second three-month period of 1999, while the production during July amounted to 980 tons of oil.

The increase of production is accompanied with the reduction of oil price, where in the first three-month period the cost of one ton of oil was 9800 Leks, while during the second three-month period the price was 8800 Leks versus 8100 Leks that was in July.

The main problem of Albpetrol syndicate was the increase of the wage, but according to minister Bufi an increase in the wages of the employers will soon be implemented in Albpetrol sectors.

[18] KESH to be divided in power generation and distribution sectors

    TIRANE, Sept 7 (ATA)-By M. Pupa,

The Albanian Power Generation and Distribution Firm (KESH) is expected to be divided into two sectors: power generation and distribution.

The aim of this division is to make the local government more interested in collecting incomes," said Ylli Bufi, Minister of Economy and Privatisation.

According to Bufi, in the distribution sector the state shares will be divided between the KESH itself and the local government structures.

This corporation, despite the potential administered in the power generation and distribution, continues to suffer great losses because of debtors who do not pay the energy consumption bills. The losses are estimated at around US$ 70 million.

The reconstruction of KESH and its division in two sectors seems to be found as a form to come out of the difficult financial state. The local government bodies, which will have a part of the shares in the distribution sector, are thought to be more motivated to collect the money from the consumers they have under their jurisdiction.

The incomes to be collected will directly go to investment for the reconstruction of the power generation and distribution network. /a.gj/lm/
