[12] Serbs must pay for what they offered to the region - Majko

    - Interview of Albanian Premier with ATA -

TIRANE, July 28 (ata) - By E Nepravishta: In an interview with ATA today, Albanian Prime Minister Pandeli Majko said that the border between Albania and Kosova could be considered as a wall like that of Berlin, and even worse, which cost sufferings not only to Albanians but to the entire region.

"Now I think we must build the bridges of communication and it seems to me that during the tragedy of the past months, we, Albanians found the ways of communication. I am convinced that the children of Kosova know now well what Albania is and who the Albanians are, hence the vacuum caused by the lack of communication is filled."

Albanian PM pointed out the regulation issued some days ago and which places Kosova within the rules of the United Nations, stressing that Albania will seek to find itself in this regulation. "It would be an absolute nonsense if at these moments we fail to demand to be the main bridge to connect Kosova with all the moments of political, economic and cultural cooperation, ties which Kosova will seek to establish with Europe and the U.S.," said Majko.

Asked about his request in Vienna that the Serb Army must be placed under control, PM Majko replied that in Vienna he had declared that the U.N. must exert control on the Serb Army which has, so far, orientated four wars, and transactions on the technological aspect of the army. "This is very normal and I found understanding from many of my colleagues in Vienna, because the case of Serbia is for the international community a moment of repetition of the history, certainly with its special effects which Europe experienced after the World War Second with the Nazi Germany," said PM Majko, adding that "the Serbs must pay for what they offered to the region with their policy and I don't believe there can be someone to say that only one person is guilty of this." /pas/xh/

[15] Albanian Government voices concern over situation in judiciary

TIRANE, July 28 (ata) - The Council of Ministers discussed today the situation after the protest held on Tuesday by a part of policemen in front of the judiciary premises of the district of Shkoder, and declared that the protest was spontaneous and though illegal, it reflects a general civil concern for the way how the judiciaries act with the people caught red- handed by police.

"Release of the criminals and gangs known by Albanian courts under the pretext of 'the lack of proofs and witnesses,' under the direct responsibility of the prosecutor's office, is, without doubt, a grave challenge to the efforts by Albanian police to hit crime and to restore order.

The Albanian Government reconfirms clearly the belief that the independence of the institutions of judiciary is a fundamental condition for the functioning of the system of judiciary. But it voices once more the idea that the government sides with the worry of the public opinion, and all those working in the judiciary who consider the independence as a condition to judge fairly without taking into consideration the pressures coming from the world of crime or other directions," says the declaration of the Albanian Government. /pas/xh/
