  • [01] Austrian embassy in Tirana displays photos of Albanian monuments

    Tirana, July 23 (ata) By K.Shehu:- A photo exhibition with views from the most renowned archaeologic Albanian cities is expected to be open in the premises of the Museum of National History in Tirana.

    The Austrian embassy, the initiator of the exhibition, signed an agreement with the Museum of National History for the realisation of the project.

    "The exhibition, expected in September, is the first of this kind being organised in cooperation with the Austrian Embassy" said to ATA, on Friday, the director of the museum Moikom Zeqo.

    In this exibition will be displayed 55 photos viewing the most prominent monuments of Albania, mainly in the antique city of Butrinti, realised by Austrian photographers and scholars, during their various visits to these cultural centers.

    In this exhibition will be displayed also photos, mainly landscapes, from Austria's capital, Vienna. /dast/so/xh/

    Durres, 23 juillet /ATA/ Par S.Gjordeni: Selon une analyse du marché du travail à Durres et de la composition des chômeurs selon l'ãge, la situation de famille, le bureau du travail local a élaboré des programmes et a fixé des objectifs pour l'embauchage.

    La directrice de ce bureau Lumturi Njala a indiqué que le premier semestre de 1999 on avait prévu l'embauchage de 720 personnes et on a trouvé des emplois à 956 perosnnes. Elle a ajouté que les 32 projets des travaux publics commencés l'année dernière ont créé 1500 emplois pour le goudronnage, le nettoyage des rues, la réhabilitation de différents edifices, etc.

    Pour le deuxième semestre on a présenté cinq projets qui créeront de nouveaux emplois surtout dans les prets-à-porter et les services publics. On donnera la priorité aux sociétés qui payeront les assurances sociales à leurs employés.

    Dans la ville de Durres il y a 150 entreprises et institutions publiques comptant 15 000 fonctionnaires tandis que le secteur privé compte 12 000 employés, il y a 8 554 chômeurs recensés ou 8% de la main d'oeuvre. /dast/LP/

    [02] Town-planning study for Bilisht town

    BILISHT, July 23 (ata0 - By B Fejzullai: The town-planning section of the town-hall of Bilisht, in cooperation with the Institute of Urban Studies and Projects in Tirane, has completed a town-planning study for Bilisht.

    According to the section chief, Hekuran Hoxhalli, the study envisages the extension of Bilisht in an area of 250 hectares, from 110 hectares it covers at present. The study envisages a dwelling zone which takes 1/3 of the total zone, the rest will be the administrative-economic zone, schools and social-cultural institutions including sport grounds. It also forecasts 9 square meters of greenery per inhabitant.

    The number of population in the town of Bilisht, 15 km from Korce and 12 km from Kapshtica customs house, has doubled in the recent years accompanied with lots of constructions. /dast/xh/

    Elle sera organisée par l'ambassade de l'Autriche à Tirana, qui en a signé un accord avec le Muséee de l'histoire nationale.

    [04] Police destroy 5 110 cannabis plants

    Tirana, July 23 (ata) By Urim Bajrami: Local police forces of Fier destroyed on Friday 5 110 narcotic plants (cannabis.)

    Sources from the Ministry of the Public Order report to ATA that the local police forces, in cooperation with the Regional Anti-Drugs Office and the Riot Police Force, in the course of the actions undertaken in the past few days, destroyed in the village of Cakran 5 110 roots of cannabis.

    According to the same sources, the narcotic plants were planted in the plots of some of the inhabitants of this village, who are now being penally prosecuted.

    The number of cannabis plants destroyed during this week in Fier, according to police statistics, has amounted to 55 thousand. /dast/so/xh/

    [05] New projects for employment in Durres district

    DURRES, July 23 (ata) - By S Gjordeni: The Labour Office in Durres district has found jobs for 956 people from 720 that were planned over the first 6 months of 1999, said to ATA the directress of this office, Lumturi Njala.

    Njala added that with the realisation of 32 projects of public works in the district of Durres, some of which have started last year, 1 500 people have been employed such as in street rehabilitation, opening of channels, cleaning, rehabilitation of various constructions, etc.

    She stressed that 5 projects have been presented for the second half of this year by the National Labour Service in Tirane, opening new jobs, mainly for ready-made clothes and public services.

    Over the coming 6-month period, priority will be attached to firms which not only employ registered unemployed people but also to those who employe people who receive economic assistance or unemployment payment.

    There are about 150 state enterprises and institutions in Durres, in which 15 thousand people are employed, while the private market has ensured jobs for 12 thousand others. At present, there are 8 554 people registered as unemployed, or only 8 per cent of the able-bodied population. /dast/xh/

    [06] Installation of new modern lines by Telecom

    TIRANE, July 23 (ata) - By Manjola Pupa: Installation of 1000 modern telephone lines in Albania by Albtelecom will bring about a considerable improvement in the system of telecommunications, sources from the general department of Albtelecom told ATA.

    To this end, within July, Albtelecom will open a national tender for the purchase of digital apparatuses estimated at USD6 million to be installed in the districts of Berat, Pogradec, Lezhe, Sarande, etc.

    Actually, Albtelecom has a 4507 member staff. Its activity covers 12 zones of the country with 40 affiliates and has a geographic extension to 36 districts, with 4 specialized affiliates.

    Some 33 districts have an automatic, national and international telephone system. Albtelecom covers today 34 per cent of the country, from 14 per cent it covered in 1992. /dast/xh/

    [07] State Control discovers violations in Albtransport

    TIRANE, July 23 (ATA) - High State Control has come across violations in service diets accorded by Albtransport enterprice for its employees travelling abroad, and violations in procuration procedures.

    As a result of a control exercised in this enterprise, HSC has found out that Albtransport employees who were in service in Istanbul are granted diets for more days they were in Istanbul and the prices were $ 35 higher than the normal ones.

    High State Control has also found out violations in procuration procedures. So, after the control exercised on the documents of two cars bought recently by this enterprise, flagrant violations of law are encountered by eliminating the necessary procedures for a fund worth 4 million Leks. In both cases the offers estimated and assessed by the Evaluation Commission are not present in the respective files, and such a thing is a violation of law. /dast/A.A/

    [08] Dokle says he hails seriousness of analyses made by "Friends of Albania"

    TIRANE, July 23 (ATA) - By A.Gjakova: Albanian Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Namik Dokle, told ATA on Friday that he hailed the seriousness of analyses "Friends of Albania" made on Wednesday regarding the situation in Albania. According to Dokle both parts of the analyses are valid to be analyzed in order to make issues go even better in Albania.

    "The fact that 'Friends of Albania' hailed the contribution given by Albanian government in coping with the crisis in Kosove, the fact that due to the same crisis a part of the duties of Albanian government are postponed (thing known by them) should be regarded as positive, but at the same time the problems touched by them, especially the attempts government should make in order field, struggle against corruption, smuggling either of goods or clandestine, are appeals addressed to Albanian to encourage it go ahead in the road it has taken", said Dokle.

    Dokle added that such a thing needs the engagement of all state institutions and it is not a question of changes in government. /led/A.A/

    [09] Vlora profits from investments some 4,4 times more than last year

    Vlora, July 23 (ATA) - By H.Koci - Several important investments are going to take place in Vlora during the coming months of the year. Their value compared with the ones last year increases by 4,4 times. This is confirmed for ATA by Vlora Prefect Tare Hamo.

    According to him, the investments of this year cover a wide space of fields, where the most important are investment the one in enlarging the port capacity, rehabilitation of the streets in and out of the town, water provision of the town and the villages around, reconstruction of the power provision system or the construction of the new schools and the rehabilitation of some other buildings in health care sector, as well. /dast/linda/

    [10] 580 Elbasani families to benefit from Greek credit on sheltering

    Elbasan, July 23 (ATA) - By M.Lulja - The homeless in Elbasani Prefecture, who lost their homes due to the failure of the get-quick-rich pyramidal schemes, will profit from the Greek credit soon.

    The Director of the Dwelling Houses Enterprise Bashkim Cerma said for ATA that this credit will be ready for the homeless next week and in cooperation with the Town Municipality it is defining the checks and drafting of the buildings' projects, where these people will be sheltered.

    According to him there are some 580 families in this Prefecture that lost their houses due to putting their money in the pyramidal schemes and 380 of them belong to Elbasani town. /dast/linda/

    [11] Cooperation possibilities between Shkoder and Besancon town-halls

    SHKODER, July 23 (ATA) - By M.Malja: Wide cooperation possibilities are created between the town hall of Shkoder city and the Besancon counterpart, France, the major of Shkoder prefecture, Bahri Boriçi, told ATA on Friday after a meeting with a delegation of Besanconi town-hall, chaired by its deputy chairman, Jacque Line.

    Issues discussed in the meeting were the cooperation possibilities in some fields such as in that of infrastructure, health, culture and education. The French friends who are specialists of the above mentioned fields will meet in forthcoming days representatives of Shkoder enterprises. They are expected to meet representatives of aqueduct, education, health and other similar sectors.

    After getting acquainted with the problems these sectors have, a bilateral agreement is expected to be signed by both parts for concrete aid and technical assistance. /led/A.A/

    [12] Anti-smuggling: Punishment and sequestration of commercial subjects

    Tirana, July 23 (ata) - By D.Koca - The Anti-smuggling Directorate has punished and sequestrated the goods of some commercial subjects, having problems with documents, during the check-ups performed these days.

    "Avicena" company, is punished by the fee of some 145 thousand lek, because it has more syringes than the declared quantity of some 150 thousands parts.

    The same phoneme took place with the vehicle of "Venus" company, where the difference in quantity marked some 3 tonne.

    Taking into consideration such things, the staff of the Directorate decided to punish and sequestrated. The total value collected till now is some 130,667 lek/. /led/linda/

    [13] Book fair "Pristine '99" for the first time in Kosova.

    TIRANE, July 23, (ATA) - By Ornela Kadaifçiu: Albanian books will be exhibited in a fair which is expected to take place in Kosova capital during fall of this year. The fair, the first of this kind in Kosova, is called "Pristine '99", and is organized by publishing houses of Kosova and Albania.

    Sources close to the organizers of the activity told ATA on Friday that "the number of the publishing houses, participants in this activity, is not defined yet", but " the participation of "Dukagjini", "Rilindja", and "Buzuku" publishing houses, the publishing enterprise of academic books and "Toena" publishing house, is already confirmed". The fair is considered to be not only an exhibition of books, but also a complex cultural activity.

    Albanian books are exhibited for the first time in the fair organized in Tirana during December '98, where nearly 40 publishing houses, which exercise their publishing activity in Tirana, Kosova and Macedonia, exhibited their books. /led/NA/A.A/

    [14] Ceka says we are before challenges presented by time

    TIRANE, July 23 (ATA) - By A.Gjakova: Today we find ourselves before challenges presented by the time which are connected with our integration in Europe, and with the proposes of Stability Pact, Neritan Ceka, parliamentary chairman of order and SHIK, told the journalists on Friday.

    The critics made on Wednesday by "Friends of Albania" coincide with the end of emergency situation, said Ceka. "The changes should be made where "Friend of Albania" proposed: we need a fundamental change in Albanian justice system, further strengthening of order, creation of an efficient bank system, struggle against corruption, and the struggle in secondary levels where the party militancy is very evident. /led/A.A/

    [15] New American Ambassador in Albania optimist for country's future

    Tirana, July 23 (ATA) - By I.Paco - Nominated as American Ambassador in Albania Joseph Limprecht took an oath on Thursday, July 22, before the State Department.

    Sources from the Foreign Ministry told ATA that the candidacy of Mr. Limprecht for American Ambassador in Albania, is considered by the part of State Department as a perfect one.

    Limpreht in his addressee during the yesterday's ceremony esteemed this position and considered it as ambitious and very important having in mind the current level of the relations between Albania and USA, which are considered ad good enough.

    Ambassador Limprecht will substitute Mariza Lino, who completed her diplomatic mission in Albania, in May 1999.

    Ambassador Limprecht, good expert in knowing Albanian reality, said he believed that the Albanian Government supported by the International Community will bring progress in Albania. /led/linda/

    [16] Italy accords 400 million liras for hemodialysis clinic in University Hospital Center

    TIRANE, July 23 (ATA) - By R. Xhuvani: Sources from Albanian Health Ministry told ATA on Friday that 400 million liras will be given by Italian government for rehabilitation of the hemodialysis clinic in "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Centre, Tirana.

    The clinic of hemodialysis works under its capacity because the number of hemodialysis apparatus, (blood cleaning through artificial kidney), is not enough to fulfil the needs of 400 patients suffering from this disease in Albania.

    According to specialist doctors, 9-10 thousand dollars a year are needed for a patient undergoing hemodialysis three times a week. Knowing that this sum of money is unaffordable by Albanian patients due to the actual economic situation, the fund granted by the Italian government will help their recovery. /led/NA/A.A/

    [17] Nano asks SP General Leading Committee to set the campaign regulations

    TIRANE, July 23 (ATA) - By I.Luto: Fatos Nano will continue the campaign for the post of Socialist Party chairman despite the request of this party to stop it.

    Nano, who resigned from the post of SP chairman in 1999, told ATA on Friday that he will not retreat from the decision to be back as the leader of the biggest party in Albania, and to realize his ideas for reformation and modernization of SP. Nano held meetings recently with members and sympathizers of SP in Vlore, Berat, Tirane and Skrapar.

    A meeting of SP Leading Committee expected to be held on Monday, will have in its focus the status of the campaign of SP congress, decided to be held in September 9-10. Nano said that he invited the General Leading Committee of SP to set through a regular status the procedures on the bases of which the period before the congress will be organized, and to proclaim the list of candidates. /led/A.A/

    [18] Majko meets in Vienna senior representatives of neighboring countries

    TIRANE, July 23 (ATA) - By E.Nepravishta: The relations of Albania with the neighboring countries and their developments in the future were in the focus of meetings Albanian Premier, Pandeli Majko, held during the last two days in Vienna with senior state personalities of these countries.

    Albanian Information Ministry told ATA on Friday that Majko held on Thursday a tet a tet long meeting with the President of Monte Negro, Milo Gjukanociç. After the meeting Albanian Premier briefed that the the main issues discussed were the relations between Albania and Monte Negro, and the future of these relations.

    Premier Majko held talks on Friday with the Greek Foreign Minister, Jorgos Papandreu.

    Albanian Prime Minister, who is also the Secretary General of the SP, is in Vienna together with the Speaker of Parliament, Skender Gjinushi, for taking part in the Conference of European Socialist Parties, which started its proceedings on Thursday.

    The Left Wing parties which are actually ruling in Europe are discussing to reach common conclusions on the future of the region, viewpoints which will be introduced the coming week in Sarajevo, where the Summit on Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe will be held. /led/A.A/

    [19] Balkan instability will cost more than the investments to ensure stability

    TIRANE, July 23 (ATA) - By E.Nepravishta: The Balkans' future is seen as that of a United Europe future region, where instability will cost more than the investment to ensure stability, Albanian Premier and SP General Secretary, Pandeli Majko, pointed out in the speech held in the European SP Conference, actually continuing its proceedings in Vienna. In his speech, the Albanian Premier, Majko, stated the Albanian government idea and viewpoints on the Balkans actual situation and the future development of the region.

    Albanian Information Ministry told ATA on Friday, Majko considered this conference as one of the most serious discussions to cope with the present challenges in Balkans, where the dialogue lacked in the past.

    Vienna Conference, where the senior representatives of the European left wing parties, actually in power, are gathered, aims at discussing the opinions to reach common conclusions, which are to be presented in Sarajevo Summit on Stability Pact in Southeastern Europe next week. /led/NA/A.A/
