  • [01] Minister Meksi met American Ambassador Joseph Limpreht

    Tirana, July 18 (ATA) - The Minister of Economic Cooperation and Commerce Ermelinda Meksi, at the moment in Washington invited by the American Department of Commerce, had a special meeting with the American Ambassador nominated in Albania Joseph Limpreht. The meeting is held at the Albanian embassy in Washington.

    Minister Meksi attended also the ceremony organized by the Albanian embassy in cooperation with the Albanian-American National Council in the framework of the funds collection in support of Kosova.

    She thanked the participants, American People and Government for the solution of Kosova crisis and the assistance given during this period and the wish to intensify the cooperation aiming at reconstruction and development of Kosova, Albania and all Balkan region. /pas/linda/

    [02] Lakrori: Albania is determined in its way toward Euro Atlantic integration

    Tirana, July 18 (ata) - By A.Haxhiu - Exchange of ideas and thought in the framework of the Stability Pact, which is going to take its last OK in Sarajevo Summit at the end of this month, was the center topic of the meeting held in Roma between the representatives of Italy, Albania, Croacia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Hercegovina and Macedonia.

    The meeting was organized upon the initiatives of the Italian Secretary of State Umberto Ranieri.

    Albanian delegation was headed by the State Secretary for Euro Atlantic Integration Maqo Lakrori.

    According to the sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ranieri stressed once again the support of Italy in the process of EU negotiations with Macedonia and Albania, concerning the new agreement on stability and association. He told the participants that Italy is organizing a Task-Force to contribute in Balkan reconstruction, in particular.

    Mr. Lakrori in his addressee reconfirmed the determination of the Albanian Government to continue the way of Euro Atlantic Integration, aiming at EU and NATO membership.

    He stressed the priority given by the Albania in implementation of the Corridor 8 and other joint regional projects.

    He mentioned the real risk for Balkan destabilization, as long as war criminal are in the head of Belgrad.

    According to him the strong and continues presence of NATO and USA in the region is a necessity for fair solution of Kosova question and fulfillment of Stability Pact requirements. /led/linda/

    [03] Acceleration of crossborder programs is asked

    Saranda, July 18 (ATA) - By Sh.Hajno - The interregional development of Southern Albania and Northern Greece and the role of the NGO-s in accelerating the crossborder Programs, were the main topics of the seminar held on Saturday at the District Board of Saranda , initiated by the organization of the ethnic Greek Minority Omonia and Greek NGO Panepirotic.

    Participants from both countries were present in this seminar. The Head of Omonia Vangjel Dule stressed that our aim is to contribute in economic development of both countries. He mentioned the chance of solving these problems due to the implementation of Stability Pact in our region.

    The Head of Greek NGO Panepirotic Kosta Aleksiu after estimating the existence of the Greek minority in this region as a friendship joiner of the two countries stressed the fact that the two countries lack the necessary economic development. "Our aim is the people of the two countries to stay where they are and be strongly economically developed", stressed Aleksiu.

    In the name of the respective Local Government talked the Head of Saranda District Board Thoma Papagjika and the Head of Municipalities Union of Northern Greek Jani Xani. /led/linda/

    [04] Nearly 1.125 million lek to be accorded to Ministry of Public Order

    Tirana, July 18 (ata) - By U.Bajrami - A supplemental fund of some 1.125 million lek from the state budget is foreseen to be accorded to the Ministry of Public Order for the second half of this year.

    265 million lek of this sum will be used on salaries' fund and 60 million lek on social insurance contribution.

    A supplemental sum of 600 million lek is foreseen on operative expenditures, including food and clothes for the soldiers free of charge, expenditures on fuel, etc.

    While the sum for investments marks the value of some 200 million lek, including expenditures on reconstruction of the buildings of some police buildings, intercommunication equipment, office devices, equipment on criminality sector, etc.

    This supplemental sum will be sent for discussion and approval to Parliament. /dast/linda/

    [05] Back to work factories of Greek owner Lalioti

    Delvina, July 18 (ata) - By Sh.Hajno - Two days ago, after an interruption of 40 days, started the work the two factories of the Greek owner Kristo Lalioti in Delvina town, which produce ready clothes for export.

    According to the Director of these two factories Vasil Marga, the work was interrupted due to the fact that the son of the owner Jorgo Lalioti was kidnaped in June 7.

    "The economic needs of the families, whose members work in these factories, and the guarantees that the employees gave for the security of the working process, were the main motives that made the owner to restart the activity", told ATA the Director Marga.

    The Greek citizen Jorgo Lalioti was kidnaped by unidentified persons in June 7, in the place called Berdenesh, 7 km from Saranda, when he was going to his father new investments "Olimpik Petrol".

    The authors of this act asked some 500 million drachmas at the beginning and later on 150 million drachmas for his return.

    According to the confirmations of the local police, nevertheless the work done by its structures, the kidnaped Greek citizen is not found yet. /dast/linda/

    [06] Work for reconstruction of boulevard of Saranda continues

    SARANDA, July 18 (ata) - By Shkelqim Hajno: With a fund of 110 thousand dollars by the World Bank, the reconstruction of the boulevard along the coast in the city for Saranda is now in an important stage.

    According to the president of the local firm which is carrying out the job, Stavri Boci, actually the work for the the engineering network is finished, the building of the walls separating the boulevard from the park is also over and work is going on for the decorative stones carved on these walls.

    Of interest for these works, says the chief of services in the town- hall, Panajot Bunari, is not only the qualitative realisation but also the application of traditional elements of the carved stone in the city which is in harmony with the stone stairs and the wide use of the decoration stone in the paths and stairs of the city.

    Other funds will be raised for the boulevard to rehabilitate its illumination system, a part of which has been improved with funds by the town-hall. /dast/xh/

    [07] Film "Tears of Kosova," one more testimony for the Hague Tribunal

    TIRANE, July 18 (ata) - By K Shehu: The premiere of the film "Tears of Kosova" produced by Kujtim Çashku and scenario by Vath Koreshi was shown on July 17 in the Opera and Ballet Theater in Tirane.

    The film by Çashku presents through filming testimonies the tragedy of the Albanians of Kosova, tragedy which started in March this year to be recorded as one of the gravest at the end of this century.

    The film is based on real events, where characters are the people, and the victims of the Serb terror bringing testimonies for their scorched land, for who were people neither dead not alive, driven out of their homes and who thought only of the time when they will be back again, at least only once, to their home.

    All this makes up the anxious world of the film which without a narrator, shows of the atrocities, the fearful reality of the land named Kosova and which may be considered one more testimony for the Hague Tribunal.

    Kujtim Cashku is known in Albania as the producer of some qualitative films, a part of which are awarded with international prizes. /dast/xh/

    [08] World Bank President James Wolfensohn arrives in Tirane

    TIRANE, July 18 (ata) - By D Koca: The President of the World Bank, James Wolfensohn, arrived on Sunday afternoon in Tirane. The delegation of the World Bank led by Wolfensohn was welcomed at the Rinas airport by Albanian Prime Minister Pandeli Majko and senior officials of Albanian ministries.

    Mr Wolfensohn's official visit to Tirana is being made at the invitation of PM Majko and its aim is to discuss further cooperation of the World Bank with the Albanian Government following the end of the crisis in Kosova.

    According to sources from the World Bank headquarters in Tirane, Mr Wolfensohn will see, during the visit, the progress and the challenges of the institutional reform and the consolidation of the ruling capabilities in Albania. He is also expected to visit the projects financed by the World Bank and the zones mostly-affected by the Kosova crisis. Also some important financing agreements between the WB and Albanian Government for the support of the economic development in this country are also expected to be signed during the visit. /dast/xh/
