  • [01] Theater performance in Albanian on stages of Kosova after five years

TIRANE, July 2 (ata) - By Klodi Shehu: For the first time after five years, an Albanian theater performance will be staged in seven cities of Kosova.

The drama with three acts "Last performance" written by Kosova producer and playwright Fadil Hysaj will be performed first in the National Theater stage of Tirane on July 4, and then in Gjakove, Mitrovice, Prishtine, Prizren, Peje, Ferizaj and Gjilar.

The producer and manager of the performance, Fahri Hysaj, told ATA on Friday that "the Albanian inhabitants in seven cities" have not seen any Albanian theater play in the past five years under the state of emergency, because the Serb power has adopted grave measures of violence."

The tournament envisaged to start on July 12 was been proposed by the Albanian Ministry of Culture and will be funded by the Council of Europe.

The putting on stage of this drama, although not a project of the National Theater, was financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, with about 10 million lek and the Soros Foundation with 7 million lek. /lh/xh/

    [02] PRESS REVIEW

TIRANE, July 3 (ata) - By Urim Bajrami: Albanian press writes on Saturday about the meetings in Tirane of the delegation of the Albanians in Montenegro led by the chief of the Democratic Union, Fuad Nimani.

The independent daily Koha Jone writes of a possible visit to Albania of the President and the Prime minister of the Montenegro.

"The visit to Tirane soon of the President of Montenegro, Gjukanovic and the Prime Minister Vujanovic will mark the first highest ranking Albanian-Montenegrin meeting. The invitation of the Albanian Government in their address has be sent through the chief of the Albanian diplomacy, Paskal Milo in a meeting he had with the Prime Minister Vujanovic in Crans Montana, while to the new era of the cooperation between the two neighbouring countries has served also a delegation of the Democratic Union of the Albanians of Montenegro, which has visited Tirane..." writes the newspaper.

Another independent daily, Shekulli, referring to the meeting of the Albanian Foreign Minister, Milo and the leader of the Democratic Union of the Albanians in Montenegro, held on Friday, under the title "Albanians of Montenegro, the bridge between Tirane and Podgorica," writes: "The meeting of the prime ministers of the four countries (Albania, Montenegro, Kosova and Macedonia) at the beginning of July in Ohrid of Macedonia will also determine the priorities of the economic and political investments in this part of the region. Besides, the political movements between Tirane and Skopje will be followed also by the visit of President of Albania, Rexhep Meidani to Macedonia on July 8."

Zeri i Popullit, newspaper of the Socialist Party of Albania, writes: "Milo: Albanians, the bridge connecting Tirane and Podgorica."

"The chief of Albanian diplomacy during the meeting with the delegation of the Democratic Union of the Albanians in Montenegro, said that "your presence here proves of the role that Albanians are actually playing in the processes of the democratization of the Balkans in building a new southeastern Europe, as a part of the great European family," writes Zeri i Popullit. Albanian press writes on Saturday for the meeting of SP presidency held on the Thursday evening which seems to have closed the debate on the date of the congress of this party.

Shekulli writes: "SP clans make compromise," while in the headline it writes "New debate in SP. How will the chairman be elected, through rallies or spontaneously in the congress."

"As for the date of the Congress there will be no more quarrel in the Socialist Party, but the problem will be on how the chairman will be elected," said the chairman of the socialist parliamentary group, Gramoz Ruci yesterday, adding that any request to hold the congress earlier will be considered as a request that runs counter to the statute. "The congress cannot be held earlier than at least two months after the meeting of the Leading General Committee," said Ruci yesterday after a meeting of the socialist presidency which set the date of the meeting of the Leading General Council..." the article writes.

Under the title "Nano's opponents: Now its the turn of youths" and headlined "Latest alternative of Fatos Nano analysed. His men and his opponents bring forth their arguments," writes: "Nano's alternative in the last meeting of socialist activists in Vlore has become a topic of discussion and debate in the ranks of socialists, who think that the young powerholders must offer their alternative."

"Government changes after the Congress" writes Gazeta Shqiptare, with a headline "DAP leader: I am sure Majko will make shuffles in executive."

"SP congress will bring changes in the Government. But a new political contract in coalition is also needed to face the new local elections and to exploit the chances offered to Albania and especially for Kosova" declared for this paper Neritan Ceka, chairman of the Democratic Alliance Party." Albanian dailies on Saturday write also of the event that took place two days ago in Vlore, where three people among whom a close friend of Myrteza Caushi (Zani) were killed and another was wounded.

Koha Jone writes: "Action to catch Zani".

"Criminal police of Public Order Ministry under the direction of the director Xhavit Sala moved to Vlore yesterday. Over 100 forces were searching for Zani, who according to Police Director of Vlore, Albert Dervish, is the culprit of the murders. yesterday, police also from Tirane have made many controls..." write Koha Jone.

Under the title "Zani disappears" and headline "Question marks on massacre: Luciano and Zani on one side. They had "fined" owners of 'Vlora- City" bar" Shekulli writes that "Vlore police confirmed that the 25-year old Afrim Rami or known as "Luciano" has been co-author with the group of Myrteza Caushi in the moment they went to take the great fine from brothers Shehu..."

"Mystery Zani: he disappears or left to flee?" writes Gazeta Shqiptare. The headline clarifies: "Guardia di Finanza steps up patrolling at sea, but possibility of his leaving by speedboat is not ruled out."

"Mystery on Zani's fleeing. Police and special forces have undertaken an extensive operation of controls in all bases used by Zani in Vlore, but so far nothing new... only Zani's mother and uncle left yesterday morning to take part in the funeral ceremony of Luciano in Burrel. His friend Zani has not appeared although police, not ruling out this to happen, have adopted all measures...the sister of the famous Caushi responded yesterday evening that they had lost relation with him (Zani."

Republika, daily of the Republican Party, writes: "Luciano buried, Zani is not present." The headline writes "In the place where the Vlore event was discussed for several hours."

"After the burial of Luciano, his relatives returned to his house, which seemed as a ruined house and not a luxurious villa. Words were spread that the man owing that house was killed while going to take a fine of some 200 thousand dollars..." writes the newspaper. /s.sh/xh/
