[11] Economic reasons force pupils to abandon school

TIRANA, March 1 (ATA) - By E. Nepravishta: Economic reasons force a number of children to abandon school.

In order to protect children and dominate over such phenomena Albania needs the creation of a complex legislation to handle all problems concerning children.

TIRANE, March 1 (ata) - By Th Thanasi: Although all legal procedure has been completed for five ships sequestered for contraband, according to the law, still there is not auction for their selling, the spokesman of the Attorney General's Office told ATA.

According to him, the ships Stefano, Demmon, Lucky Mar, Blue Eye and Alsadi, caught and sequestered for smuggling in the Albanian territorial waters, are actually waiting for sale. The delay for the sale, besides economic damage, has also lowered the capacity of the port of Durres where they have been anchored, he said.

Referring to the work to prevent smuggling through ships, one of the prosecutors in the Attorney General's Office told ATA that it is necessary that they have the respective contemporary logistics and computer system in all the sea customs and offices for taxes.

The spokesman criticized the work of captain's offices of Albanian sea ports for the lack of control for the nominal documentation of the ships, entering and leaving Albanian ports.

The Attorney General's Office is investigating into 27 ships, which have transported smuggled goods through paying a high customs fee. The inquiry into the systematic contraband of the 27 ships started on October 23, 1998, on the basis of articles 172 and 27 of the Penal Code of the Republic of Albania. /lh/xh/
