[12] CEC proposes institutionalization of election commission

TIRANA, June 24 (ATA) - By K. Shehu: The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has proposed to the Constitution Drafting Commission to include in the draft constitution an article for the institutionalization of the Central Electoral Commission and a universal code for all the elections and referendums.

Daver Çano, chairman of the CEC for the partial local elections, considers this proposal very important because, according to him, "such a chapter in the constitution will depoliticize the Central Electoral Commission, and will also confirm that its function is independent."

The deputy chairman of CEC, Pellumb Çela, shares the same opinion with Çano and adds that "a permanent institution will be really technical and will fairly observe the electoral law."

All the members of the Central Electoral Commission for the partial local elections have agreed with this proposal; nine of them have been also members of the previous election commissions. /s.s/das/mt/
