  • [01] Deputy Hajdari to show up in judicial police - Appeal Court

    TIRANA, April 6 (ATA) - By F. Zekthi: The deputy Azem Hajdari is obliged to show up every Thursday in the judicial police under the form of personal detention.

    This was ruled Monday by the Appeal Court, which left into force the decision of the Tirana Court.

    The deputy of the Democratic Party, Azem Hajdari, is accused of opposing the police forces in collaboration and insulting because of duty.

    On February 14, 1998, Hajdari was in the head of a group of 14 persons, who, while coming back from Shkoder to Tirana, rejected the control of police and insulted them in Lezhe and Milot.

    Hajdari, who addressed to the Appeal Court to turn down the decision of the Tirana Court, did not accept the accusation and offended even the court's jury of the case. /s.s/pas/mt/

    [02] Wide autonomy for Kosova within existing borders of ex-Yugoslavia

    - says Kranidiotis -

    TIRANA, April 7 (ATA) - In the meeting with the theme "The beginning for Friendship and Cooperation," organized on April 5 in Kosani of Greece by the Center of Inter-Balkanic Cooperation, the Greek deputy Foreign Minister, Janis Kranidiotis, expressed the concern of Greece regarding the Kosova issue.

    Underlining the support to cope with the problems through peace and diplomacy, Kranidiotis said that "The countries of the region, the European Union and the international community should take measures to peacefully resolve the Kosova issue, in order not to have the developments of Bosnia and Herzegovina when the action was delayed."

    He also expressed the stand of Greece "for a wide-ranging autonomy of Kosova within the existing borders of former Yugoslavia, where all human rights are respected."

    The press and information department of the Albanian Foreign Ministry reports that attending this meeting was also an Albanian delegation, headed by the State Secretary for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, Maqo Lakrori. Participating in the delegation was also the Albanian Ambassador in Athens, Kastriot Robo, the deputy Minister of Education, Andrea Marto, the deputy Theodhori Bej, the General Director of the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA), Frrok Çupi, as well as representatives of local government from districts of Korce and Devoll.

    The Greek deputy Minister of Development and deputy of the constituency, Ana Diamantopolu, criticized the spirit of racism and xenophobia, noted in the Greek press and said that the relations with the neighbours are of a mutual necessity. She also talked about the materialization of relations in education, culture and business, and pointed out that in this framework there is a good tendency, mainly in the relations between Greece and Albania.

    The organizer of this meeting, the Center of Inter-Balkans Cooperation, set up by the prefecture of Kosani, aims at developing the cultural, educational and commercial cooperation in the Balkans. /s.sh/pas/mt/

    [03] Some 500 000 lek goods sequestrated; lack of documentation

    KAVAJA, April 7 (ATA) - By G. Kabashi: A vehicle with different goods, started from Vlore towards Tirana, was stopped in Kavaje and the goods were sequestrated because of lack of documentation.

    Sources from the police commissariat of Kavaja told ATA that the vehicle with number plate of Tirana, loaded with food articles, detergents and others, was blocked on Saturday after the tax police pointed out that part of the documentation was missing.

    Further investigations clarified that the goods worth 500 000 leks were bought in Vlore in the unlicensed firm "AVIS." /s.sh/pas/mt/

    [04] Heavy gunshots heard in villages of Drenice

    PRISHTINA, April 7 (ATA) - Heavy gun shots were heard in villages of Drenice, Acarev and Turic, which are kept since a month surrounded by the Serbian police forces.

    A sources from the Kosova Democratic League said that the gun shots were very powerful and were heard even in Llaushe, a village where police reinforcements have been noticed.

    The same sources, quoted by the Kosova Information Center, reported that 10 trucks and buses transported Monday police units from Mitrovica towards Skenderaj, while a military helicopter launched monitoring missions almost all the day on the villages of the Malisheve commune.

    Meanwhile, in Shkabaj village of Prishtina, a Serbian military convoy passed on Monday towards Fushe-Kosova. It was made up of 20 tanks and 15 other transporting means carrying military troops. /p.ta/pas/mt/

    [05] Negotiator group of President Rugova convenes

    PRISHTINA, April 7 (ATA) - Under the direction of Kosova President Ibrahim Rugova, yesterday in Prishtina was held the meeting of the negotiator group (G-15), which examined the project of the organization and functioning of this body, the Kosova Information Center informs.

    It is a matter of a negotiator group, named by the President of Kosova to prepare the strategy and platform of negotiations with representatives of former Yugoslavia and Serbia. The negotiator group should draft the strategy of negotiations, elaborate the possible variations of the content of negotiations and lead the negotiation. The group can set up special sub- groups to support the preparation and management of negotiations.

    Yesterday's meeting also presented the negotiating draft-platform, which will be defined in the next meeting.

    Coordinator of the negotiating group was appointed Dr. Fehmi Agani, while deputy coordinator Blerim Shala.

    The negotiating group does not replace the other legal bodies of Kosova and does not decide on issues examined in the negotiating process. The decisions regarding these issues are in competency of legal bodies of Kosova, respectively of President Rugova, of the Assembly and government of Kosova, says the statement published on this occasion by the negotiating group. /p.ta/pas/mt/

    TIRANA, April 7 (ATA)-President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani on Tuesday visited the Albanian Moslem Community on the occasion of the Moslem feast of sacrifice, Eid al-Adha, according to the Press and Information office close to the President of the Republic.

    The president, in his meeting with the head of this Community, His Holiness Haxhi Hafiz Sabri Koci, wished all the Moslem believers a happy Eid Holiday and praised the role of all religious communities in Albanian people's road towards spiritual revival and material progress.

    "Your role is even more important because you are close to the people, above the political parties," Meidani said.

    "The people and nation are eternal, while the parties and their interests are temporary."

    Further on, the president said that: "Our joint efforts that the Albanians leave behind the evil of a year ago, in the name of peace and understanding, for the country's stability and consolidation, are also indispensable for the solution of our national issue".

    The participants exchanged wishes with their Head of State and hoped a good year for all Albanians, wherever they are./s.sh/das/lm/

    [07] Geremek:"We are able to prevent extension of conflict in Kosova"

    TIRANA, April 7 (ATA)-The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), over the three months of Polish chairmanship, has achieved diplomatic successes, Polish Foreign Minister Bronislaw Geremek told a recent news conference, concentrating on his talks in Belgrade with Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.

    "Today we are able not to allow an extension of conflict in Kosova," said Geremek, who insisted on the efforts to lead to talks between the Kosovar Albanians and the representatives of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

    On this occasion, the Foreign Ministry press department reports, the Polish Foreign Minister expressed himself in favour of a special status for Kosova, but not of independence. He said that this status may be understood in different ways, as for instance the Status of the Republic like Serbia and Montenegro, in the framework of Yugoslav Federation.

    Geremek hoped he would take the positive response, which he did not take from Milosevic in his meeting in Belgrade, over the next three weeks, before the upcoming meeting of the Contact Group. /s.sh/das/lm/

    [08] Gjinushi meets with Italy's PDS delegation

    TIRANE, April 7 (ATA)-Albanian Parliament's speaker Skender Gjinushi on Sunday met in Tirana with a delegation of Italy's Democratic Party of the Left (PDS).

    The Italian delegation is made up of senators, deputies and leaders of PDS, headed by the Secretary of theis party for the Puglia region and also member of the party's national leadership, Dr. Enzo Lavarra.

    "Italy feels itself committed to Albania's future and to strengthening ties with it,"he said.

    "We have already overcome the stage of political and economic emergency," said Gjinushi, adding that the Albanian parliament has supported the democratic reconstruction of institutions and economic reform by the proper legislation.

    He said that it is working on a clear economic programme, based on the laws on market economy.

    Expressing gratitude for Italy's role in overcoming the crisis in Albania last year, Gjinushi said that "the Italian investors are welcome to Albania, as our legislation paves the way for and fully guarantees foreign investment".

    Also attending the meeting were the head of the Economy, Finances and Privatisation Commission, Anastas Angjeli, and the deputy chairman of the parliamentary permanent Foreign Policy Commission, Ilir Meta. /s.s/das/lm/
