  • [01] President Rugova meets French diplomat Jacques Blot

PRISHTINA, April 4 (ATA) - The situation in Kosova and the possibilities for a peaceful solution of the Kosovar issue were in the focus of the meeting held Saturday in Prishtina between the President of Kosova, Ibrahim Rugova, and the political director in the French Foreign Ministry and Secretary General in this ministry, Jacques Blot.

Rugova hailed the engagement of France regarding the Kosova issue in the framework of the Contact Group and highly appreciated the contribution given by this country as a permanent member of the UN Security Council for the approval of the resolution of imposing the arms embargo on Serbia and Monte Negro.

Rugova repeated that for the fair solution of the Kosova issue, there are necessary the negotiations between Belgrade and Prishtina with the mediation of a third party. He described the situation in Kosova as very tense due to the actions carried out by the Serbian forces in several regions of Kosova.

But the people of Kosova are resolute to realize the freedom and independence through peaceful and political means, said Rugova.

The French diplomat restressed the engagement of France for a rapid progress regarding the solution of the Kosovar matter. He pointed out the importance of the determination of the Contact Group and the Security Council for an unconditional dialogue between Prishtina and Belgrade and promised that his country will be always engaged in this direction.

"The peaceful solution of the Kosova issue is the only alternative and with importance for the stability of the entire region," said Blot.

Attending the meeting was also the French ambassador in Belgrade, Stanislav Philiol, and the first secretary of the embassy, Gerard Fauvo. /b.j/sara/mima/mt/
