  • [01] "THE MONEY WAS TRANSPORTED BY POLICE VAN"-bodyguard of Sude

TIRANA, SEPTEMBER 4 (ATA)-By M. Hodo, One of the former bodyguards of usurer Maksude Kademi (Sude), said at today's trial at the Tirana district Court that "the money was transported by police van".

In the trial against defendant Maksude Kademi and four of her managers, Dash amir Stolia, Hamd Hysa, Yllka and Altin Lami, the court's jury, presided by Gj. Gjoni, listened to the testimony provided by only three defendants as the other did not appear.

Later, the defence attorneys of the five defendants presented their requests consisting in separating Sude's indictment from the indictment of her four managers and in the fact that witnesses should be not asked before accountancy experts provide their explanations.

The jury rejected the demands of the defence attorneys. The other sitting will take place on September 9.

The pyramid firm of Sude went bankrupt on November 29,1996 and blocked the repayment of money to 18 904 creditors on January 17, 1997./kled /lm/sh/

[03] LEGALITY PARTY NATIONAL COUNCIL AND STEERING COMMITTEE TO DISCHARGE PARTY CHAIRMAN

TIRANA, SEPTEMBER 4 (ATA)- By Aurel Simoni, The Legality Movement Party National Council and Steering Committee are expected to discharge Guro Durollari as party chairman, at a joint meeting on September 13.

Sources say that now Durollari also lacks the support of the Royal Court.

"He has violated the Legality's status", "has embezzled in large proportions the party funds and taken them to America," "has not asked the party leading forums of the alliance with the DP in the Union for Democracy" are the charges Durollari's opponents will motivate for his dismissal next Saturday.

These charges were also lodged against Durollari at the last so much disputed congress of Legality, charges which he has denied.

A fax sent by Durollari to newspaper Koha Jone from America, where he actually is, says that "Everything seeks to bring about spilt among the Legality ranks".

Next Saturday the loyalists will also decide on the withdrawal of the Legality from the Union for Democracy.

On the same day they will also decide to call the Legality Party's emergency conference to elect the new chairman. The conference is supposed to be held after two or three months and until then the party will be led by the current presidency.

The Union for Democracy Party includes the Democratic Party, the Legality Party, the Christian-Democratic Party, the Social-Democrat Union Party and the Democrat Union Party. kled/lm/sh/

TIRANA, SEPTEMBER 4 (ATA)-Gaqo Apostoli, Minister of Public Affairs, has pointed to the indispensability of all parties concerned to engage in making concrete steps until the completion of the eighth corridor Durres-Tirane-Skopje-Sofia-Burgas.

The minister, who is also head of the Albanian delegation, voiced this opinion at the meeting held in Burgas of Bulgaria between September 1-3 with the Ministers of Transport of the countries through which this trans-European corridor passes.

The proposal of the Albanian Minister was unanimously agreed upon and was included in the text of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed at the end of the meeting.

[06] SABRI GODO TO MEET PARLIAMENTARY PARTY CHAIRMEN AND GROUPS

TIRANA, SEPTEMBER 4 (ATA)- By Aurel Simoni, The co-chairman of the Commission for Drafting the Constitution, Sabri Godo, will begin this afternoon contacts with the chairmen of the main parliamentary parties and groups.

The other co-chairman, Arben Imami (DAP) is now out of the state.

Republican Godo considers the idea of a party round table as a way out to the solution of the Constitutional issue.

The round table has also been requested by DP Secretary General Genc Pollo. He told reporters today that Majko should keep his promise on the initiative of a round table on the constitution.

"I will keep my promise, the party round table is part of the decision taken by Parliament yesterday," the SP secretary General Pandeli Majko said.

"We will try to hold a round table, but we cannot wait, the deadline of constituting the constitutional commission expires tomorrow," Godo says.

The Albanian Parliament approved yesterday the procedure of adopting the Albanian constitution. The campaign for the referendum began on the same day, scheduled to end on March 8,1998. s.sh/kled/lm/sh/
