  • [01] WORKING MEETINGS OF STATE MINISTER FOR DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION

    TIRANA, AUG 5 (ATA) - Ermelinda Meksi, Minister of State for Development and Economic Cooperation, held recently a series of working meetings with the representative of the World Bank, Carlos Elbirt, of IMF, John King and with the U.S. Ambassadress in Tirana, Mariza Lino.

    In these meetings, according to the spokesman, Meksi has explained the main problems of functioning of the Ministry of State for Development and Economic Cooperation, as well as the role to be played by this institution.

    The parties in these meetings have expressed the confidence that their first meeting will open way to a further and fruitful cooperation, ends the report of the spokesman. /kei/mt/k

    [02] POLICE START CONTROL IN NATIONAL ROAD - SARANDE

    SARANDE, AUG 6 (ATA) - By Sh Hajno: The police have taken under control segments of the road Sarande-Muzine, organizing patrolling against the armed gangs.

    Meanwhile, several buses of the inter-urban lines, which connect Sarande with Tirana and other districts of the country, started for their respective destinations, after an interruption of 4 months, caused by the terror of the armed gangs in segments of the national road. Sources of the Sarande police told ATA that despite the lack of vehicles and the police infrastructure in general, have taken under control two main segments of the national road Sarande-Muzine towards the seashore and Sarande-Borsh towards Vlore.

    The police commissariat has taken several measures to put under control some segments of the road, which have become during the recent months real arenas of criminality. /s.sh/kei/mt/k

    [03] MINISTER OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT MEETS U.S. AMBASSADRESS

    TIRANA, AUG 6 (ATA) - By A Milo: The Albanian Minister of Health and Environment, Leonard Solis, held Wednesday a meeting with the U.S. Ambassadress in Tirana, Mariza Lino.

    Ambassadress Lino wished Minister Solis for the new post and showed interest in the current developments in the health sector, reports the spokeswoman of this ministry.

    "Ambassadress Lino stressed the continuity of the projects, interrupted due to the difficult situation Albania experienced," reports the spokeswoman.

    According to her, Solid has for forward the main problems of the ministry he leads and stressed that the work should continue, by gradually improving all the structures where the health sector has had problems. /a.ke/mt/k

    [04] DP OPENS ANTI-REVENGE OFFICE

    TIRANA, AUG 6 (ATA) - The Albanian Democratic Party has opened the Office for the Protection "from the arbitrary discharges from work and the communist revenge", says an announcement of press department of this party.

    Through this announcement, DP invites all the civil officials who will be affected by this revenge, to contact with this office.

    This office will also open the Register, where there will be listed all those, who were officially discharged, and will also offer the necessary juridical advice.

    The book will be given to the Foreign Ministers of the European Union, as well as to all the representatives in the Conference of Donors in Rome, by the DP representative.

    This book will be distributed to the Council of Europe, OSCE, associations of human rights, ends the report. /kei/mt/k

    [05] ALBANIAN PRESIDENT MEETS REPRESENTATIVES OF INDEPENDENT TRADE UNIONS

    TIRANA, AUG 6 (ATA) - The Albanian President, Rexhep Meidani, held Tuesday a meeting with representatives of the Independent Trade Unions, headed by Fatmir Musaku, who wished President Meidani for further successes.

    They expressed the support of the independent trade unions for the restoration of public order and discussed regarding the efforts to coordinate the work, as an important element of their efforts to the good of the interests of workers.

    In the meeting were also exchanged thoughts with regard to different issues of the institutionalization of the troika relations: state, employee and employers. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

    [06] ALBANIAN PRESIDENT MEETS CHARGE D'AFFAIRES OF BOSNIA-HERCEGOVINA

    TIRANA, AUG 6 (ATA) - The Albanian President, Rexhep Meidani, met with the charge d'affaires of Bosnia-Hercegovina, Muharrem Zejnullahu, who gave to the President the message of wishes of President Alija Izetbegovic, on behalf of the bodies of Bosnia and Hercegovina.

    Meidani appreciated the on-going bilateral cooperation.

    "Albania will continue its support for the complete implementation of the Dayton Accord and the respect of the international obligations, serving this way to the stability and the strengthening of peace and regional understanding," said Meidani.

    He thanked for the stand of Bosnia-Hercegovina towards the Albanian question and the problem of Kosova, and appreciated as an engagement from both parties in a near future the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

    Zejnullahu pointed out the complete will of the authorities of his country for closer cooperation with Albania in all the fields. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

    [07] ALBANIAN PRESIDENT MEETS CONSUL OF HONOUR OF ALBANIA IN MUNICH

    TIRANA, AUG 6 (ATA) - The Albanian President, prof. dr. Rexhep Meidani, met with Franc Modle, Consul of Honour of Albania in Munich, also accompanied by the German Ambassador Hans Peter Disdorn.

    Modle expressed his optimism for increasing the contacts of the Bavaria government with the Albanian one to make concrete the cooperation and the assistance for order, economy and the cultural exchanges between both countries.

    Meidani stressed the necessity of increasing the cultural and scientific relations between both countries and exchanging of mutual visits of youths.

    President Meidani highly appreciated the role of the department of Albanology in the University of Munich, the contribution of this department for the protection of the national culture of more than 30 000 ethnic Albanians, who actually live in Bavaria and a greater number of Albanians living in the whole Germany. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

    [08] RESIGNATION OF LEADERS OF RECTORATE OF ELBASAN UNIVERSITY

    ELBASAN, AUG 6 (ATA) - By P Zekthi: The rector and the deputy rector of the University "Aleksander Xhuvani" in Elbasan resigned.

    Sources from the secretary of this university report that the deputy rector Tomorr Plangarica has presented the request of resignation and it was approved, while the rector Bardhyl Musai will stay until August 25, when the appointment of the new rector is expected.

    The motive, according to the same sources, is thought to be in both cases the expiry of the one-year contract between them and the Ministry of Education.

    In the context of the new restructuring in this university, the deans and the chiefs of the departments will be chosen by the teaching staff, after a preparatory campaign, similar with the legislative elections. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

    [09] MESSAGES OF WISHES ADDRESSED TO ALBANIAN PRESIDENT

    TIRANA, AUG 6 (ATA) - The Albanian President, Rexhep Meidani, has received messages of wishes from different personalities within and outside the country for the high post of the President.

    The Check President, Vaclav Havel, expresses in its message the conviction that the relations between both countries will deepen in the future.

    The King of Morocco, Hasan II, and the President of the Republic of the Socialists of Vietnam, Le Duo Anh, expresses in their messages the will to work to further strengthen the relations and cooperation.

    Prof. Dr. Rexhep Meidani has received warm messages of wishes from Tomas Melia of the National Democratic Institute, the Kosova Committee of Helsinki, from the Albanian Green Party, etc. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

    [10] UEFA TO HELP ALBANIAN FOOTBALL - from news conference of UEFA leaders

    TIRANA, AUG 5 (ATA) - By A Keko: The deputy president of UEFA, Pierre Omdal and the Director of the Office for East, Eric Eple, in a news conference held on Wednesday in Tirana, stressed that the material and qualifying aid will never miss to the Albanian football.

    Omdal, who is also the member of the the Executive Committee of FIFA, expressed the confidence that "Albania will soon be reintegrated in the European and world family of football."

    The leaders of UEFA, with regard to the possibility of launching the match Albania-Ireland in Albania, stressed that the official decision will be issued on August 12, after a relation which will be presented on this purpose. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

    [11] ALBANIAN PARLIAMENT SPEAKER MEETS WITH RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR IN TIRANE

    TIRANE, AUGUST 6 (ATA) - The Chairman of the Presidency of the People's Assembly Skender Gjinushi today met with the Russian Ambassador in Tirane, Igor Saprikin.

    According to the spokesman of the People's Assembly, the Russian Ambassador conveyed to Mr Gjinushi the greetings of the Speaker of the Russian Parliament, Mr Seleznov. In his greeting Mr Seleznov stressed that the further expansion of the relations between the two parliaments will create conditions for the further development of the relations, friendship and understanding between the two countries. The Russian Parliament Speaker expressed his readiness for the realisation of other steps in the mutual cooperation between the two parliaments in the future.

    Mr Gjinushi appreciated the realist stand of the Russian Government towards the situation in Albania in the past months and its contribution to the conduct of earlier parliamentary elections.

    "We aim at Albania's rapid integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic structures," said Gjinushi, " and we hope to have the support of Russia as a state with weight in those structures." He voiced the conviction that Russia will make its contribution to help solve the Albanian question, the question of Kosova and for the observation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Albanians in Macedonia.

    The Russian Ambassador expressed the predisposition of the Russian government and parliament to have multilateral cooperations between the two countries and parliaments. akE/xh/

    [12] ALBANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS WITH AMBASSADORS OF GERMANY AND EGYPT IN TIRANE

    TIRANE, AUGUST 6 (ATA) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paskal Milo today met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tirane, Hannspeter Disdorn.

    The German Ambassador made evident the very good relations between the two countries and voiced the will of his government to consolidate and promote further these relations. He highlighted the efficiency of various projects of the German assistance in Albania and stressed that they will be expanded in the coming months.

    Albanian Foreign Minister Milo stressed that Germany is one of the most important countries in the foreign policy of Albania. The Albanian party is working to promote these relations and is particularly interested in the increase and expansion of important German projects.

    The two interlocutors mentioned other fields such as that of defence, public order, recovery of institutions where the assistance and cooperation with Germany may be directed in a near future.

    Today the Foreign Minister, Paskal Milo had a meeting with Egyptian Ambassador in Tirane, Mr Karam who spoke of the relations between the two countries and the Albanians' contribution to the construction of modern Egypt.

    Minister Milo stressed that proceding from this historic context, "we must encourage and further promote the bilateral relations." The program of the Albanian Government attaches attention to the relations with Arab countries and in this context also with Egypt, he said. Further on Mr Milo pointed out that with the normalization of order in Albania, Egyptian investors will be welcomed to return and to continue their projects. ake/xh/

    [13] ALBANIAN PRIME MINISTER MEETS WITH COMMANDER OF MULTINATIONAL PROTECTION FORCE IN ALBANIA

    TIRANE, AUGUST 6 (ATA) - Today at noon Prime Minister Fatos Nano had a special meeting with the commander of the multinational protection force in Tirane, General Forlani on occasion of the completion of the Albani Mission in Albania.

    PM Nano, reported his spokesman, thanked General Forlani and through him all the contingent of the MPF that took part in the operation Alba in Albania for the assistance they have given. He stressed that this aid expressed first of all the support of the international community for Albania.

    Further on, Mr Nano appreciated the aid that this force gave for the stabilization of the situation, the support for stabilization of the situation, the support for the National Reconciliation Government and its positive role over the June 29 elections.

    The termination of the Alba mission, said Mr Nano further on, does not mean the creation of a vacuum of the assistance of the International Community but an end to the state of emergency. The aid for Albania, he said, will continue through the international assistance and bilateral cooperation in the field of public order and defence.

    "We have proposed to the President of the Republic," said PM Nano, "to give the 'Order of Mother Teresa' to the commander of the Multinational Protection Force Alba in sign of honour and gratitude. This Order is also a sign of gratitude for the Italian Army which could integrate so well in the complicated situation in Albania.

    General Forlani expressed his thanks for the honour made to him and voiced his satisfaction for the successful realisation of the mission charged to it by the U.N Security Council. General Forlani said that the mission for Alba was to stabilize the situation in the country by observing the sovereignty of Albania. "There have also been cases when we have been accused," said Forlani, "but we have maintained neutrality in the Albanian developments," he said at the end of his talk. ake/xh/

    [14] PM NANO MEETS WITH OSCE REPRESENTATIVES IN TIRANE

    TIRANE, AUGUST 6 (ATA) - Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano today met with representatives in Tirane of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Mr Detlof von Berg and Rei Schneider.

    During the meeting, PM spokesman said, they treated questions of the cooperation between the Albanian goovernment and international organizations such as OSCE.

    The two parties agreed that with the completion of the stage of emergence and the electoral process, the relations of Albania with international organizations must continue conformed to the requests of the initiated reforms.

    In this sense, stressed PM Nano, "we shall continue cooperation with OSCE. Our philosophy is not emergency aid but the will for partnership, institutionalization of the contacts so that the necessary dynamics for the elimination of situations with problems be created.

    "It is necessary that in the present situation of the activity and objectives of the government, we must jointly pick out the priorities in all the fields and the ways and means which will make possible the construction of the structures of the civil society in Albania, the creation of a contemporary institutional building which would build up the roads to integration into Europe. This also presupposes the approval of the phylosophy of cohabitation, partnership, rapid reforms for the civil society, beginning with the support for a free media.

    During the meeting they also spoke of the way how OSCE will organize the work in the future, the fields and modes of assistance and other aspects which had to do with the steps that Albania would undertake in its integration into the democratic world. ake/xh/
