  • [01] TRIAL AGAINST SUDE POSTPONED, CREDITORS ASK THEIR MONEY

TIRANA, JULY 11 (ATA) - By Manjola Hodo: The trial against the 36-year old manager, Maksude Kademi, was postponed because her managers did not appear to the sitting, and are not in Albania.

According to the association of the creditors, the amount of money that Sude has to return to 18 904 creditors is 6 milliard and 265 000 leks.

This was the first firm declared pyramidal which collapsed on November 29, 1996 and blocked the restitution of money on June 17, 1997.

At the last moments when Sude declared the collapse, her company has payed 331 million and 97,5 000 leks and has redeposited 165 million and 300 000 leks from 455 creditors.

The attorney of the creditors of the association "On the protection of the Sude creditors" insists that this firm has not been a pyramid investment scheme./kled/mt/sh/

[02] SITUATION IN GOSTIVAR CONTINUES TO BE TENSE

TIRANA, JULY 11 (ATA) - The situation in the towns of Gostivar and Tetove continues to be very grave. These towns are still under the control of the armed police forces.

A wide repressive campaign in the Albanian families has already started. The number of the arrested people is more than 500. The Prefect of Gostivar, Rufi Osmani, has been arrested. A mandate of arrest has been also prepared for the prefect of Tetova, Alajdin Demiri, as well as for scores of other Albanian activists.

The Macedonian police, along with the detailed control of every pedestrian, act very inhumanely against the Albanian citizens.

It is reported that in Tetove and Skopje, is staying the Senior Commissioner of OSCE for the ethnic communities, who has talked today in particular meetings with representatives of the Albanian political parties. It is also reported that the chairman of the Party for Democratic Prosperity, Abduraman Haliti, has met with the Macedonian Premier, Cervenkovski./kled/mt/sh/

[03] KOSOVA IS VERY WORRIED ABOUT LAST TRAGIC EVENTS AGAINST ALBANIANS IN MACEDONIA - News conference of DLK

PRISTINA, JULY 11 (ATA) - By B. Jashari: Kosova, which is itself under the very grave situation of the Serbian invasion, is very worried about the last tragic events against the Albanians in Macedonia.

The deputy chairman of the Democratic League of Kosova, Fehmi Agani, in the news conference held in Pristina, said that "the military-police action against the Albanians in Macedonia, was ill-intended, planned and drafted with multidimensional complex aims."

The grave and tragic situation in Gostivar and Tetove, stressed Agani, was caused by the vigorous escalation of the Macedonian-chauvinist terror, with murders, wounding and imprisoning of the Albanians.

Agani said that "there exist sufficient evidence which suggest that the anti-Albanian action in Macedonia was carried out not only according to the model, but also under the direct influence of the current Serbian regime.

The DLK deputy chairman considered the situation in Kosova very grave and dangerous and condemned the Serbian violence and terror. He asked the interruption of the repression and anti-Albanian assembled political trials and underlined that "the repression and terror are the forms of the Serbian presence and rule in Kosova." /p.ta/kled/mt/sh/

    [04] PRESS RELEASE

TIRANE, JULY 11 (ATA)- Today on July 11, at 5.30 p.m. Albania's Ambassador Shaban Murati was summoned in the Foreign Ministry of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia by Victor Dimovski, Assistant Foreign Minister of Macedonia.

In a surprising and unprecendeted way, without voicing the least grief over the victims of the unjustifiable violence by Macedonian police towards Albanians, Mr Demovski tried to accuse the Albanian party and especially the Albanian Foreign Ministry that it allegedly is supporting the illegal acts of the Albanians in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and that it interferes in its internal affairs.

Hoping that this behaviour is an expression of the extreme diplomatic zeal of Mr Dimovski and not a position of the Macedonian high authorities, the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Albania reiterates that to protest against the killing of Albanians is its most basic right conformed to the international charters and it cannot be considered at all "going beyond the legitimate limits of every state on minorities" as Mr Dimovski expressed himeslf.

The Foreign Ministry of Alania notices with regret that the future of the stability of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is conceived as a realisation of the aspirations of set circles to transform the Albanians into second hand citizens at a time when they consist 40 per cent of the population of that Republic.

Despite these, the Republic of Albania reiterates again its principled position for friendship and cooperation between neighbours on the basis of known international principles. XH

[05] 37 191 PEOPLE VOTED FOR HRUP IN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

TIRANA, JULY 11 (ATA) - By Keida Kostreci: 37 191 persons voted during the two rounds of the parliamentary elections for the Human Rights Union Party (HRUP), which protects the interests of the Greek minority in Albania.

"From now and on, the people of the Greek minority who live in Albania will be organized in the Albanian political parties and from here they should fight to come closer and integrate in the Albanian society," said the Greek deputy Foreign Minister, Janos Kranidiotis, on July 6 for the first TV Greek channel.

According to the Albanian official reports, the number of the Greek minority people in Albania is 60 000, while the Greek Foreign Minister has declared that in the southern part of the Albanian state live not less than 600 000 Greeks.

In an electoral rally, held in June in Athens by the HRUP, the chairman of OMONIA organization, Jorgo Labovitjadhi, had considered betrayal the participation of minority people in elections as candidates of other parties, except that of the Human Right Union Party./mt/sh/

[06] FROM MEETINGS OF ALBANIAN DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER IN SOFJA

TIRANA, JULY 11 (ATA) - In the meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Albania, Italy, Bulgaria and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, held Friday in Sofja, the Albanian delegation was headed by the Albanian deputy Foreign Minister, Albert Rakipi, press and information department of the Foreign Ministry reports.

[07] DECLARATION OF THE SPOKESMAN OF ALBANIAN PRESIDENT

TIRANE, JULY 11 (ATA) - Some papers have expressed in the past days the version according to which the President of the Republic should stay or will stay in his post as a guarantee for the full restitution by the Socialist Party of the money Albanian creditors lost in the pyramid investment schemes.

The spokesman of the president declares that there can be no relation between the decision of the President to keep or not his post and the accomplishment of the electoral pledges by the Socialist Party to give back to Albanian creditors the savings they lost in the failed pyramid schemes.

The President can in no case link his staying or not in the post he has with the program of a party. Moreover, precisely the distinctions in the programs in general, as well as the treatment of the question of the pyramid schemes in particular by the Denmocratic Party and the Socialist Party are among the basic questions which make impossible the coexistence of the President with a socialist government.

There are two positions in relation with the issue of pyramid investment schemes based on different legal and moral principles.

The Democratic Party has acknowledged the responsibility for the long tolerance for these schemes and for not warning the people in time of the risk of the high interest rates. Considering the debt as a private question of the citizens, it has not promised the full return of the money, although he knew that it would have been a rather luring electoral pledge. The Democratic Party has promised in its program for the full transparence of these schemes, the return of the money found in the form of deposits and other assets of those firms to the creditors, the crediting for homes and the entrepreneurships lost in those schemes, establishment of social assistance, lifting of taxes and creation of free trade zones.

Whereas the Socialist Party has so far accepted no responsibility for the long tolerance for these firms and for not warning the creditors of the danger of the high interest rates.

For all these it has blamed the Democratic Party, declaring that DP has taken the money and lately, after it blocked for four months the transparence of the pyramid schemes, during the electoral campaign it made the full nationalization of the pyramid schemes, turning them into completely government issues, and promised the creditors that the socialist government will return them the money lost in those schemes.

Availing myself of this occasion, said the spokesman, I would like once more to address all those citizens who have lost their credits in the pyramid investment schemes that:

The President of the Republic tells the creditors not to believe in the frad of the socialists that the DP government has stolen their money, because with this deceipt they organized rebellion, whereas now, in case the creditors will believe this fraud again, the new government members will use it to bring again in Albania the unchangable tradition of their power, the dictatorship.

The President of Albania and DP, leaving aside the party interests and respecting the principles of the market, say that they do not believe in the promise of the socialists for the full restitution of the lost credits. For DP, with this luring promise the socialists plundered the votes of the creditors and came to power.

Even now that it has paid the price of this fraud, it feels the moral duty to warn they who continue to believe that their money will be fully returned, will find themselves twice deceived, twice disillusioned, in the first time by those who plundered the money in the pyramid investment schemes

[08] PROTEST IN PRISHTINE AGAINST ANTI-ALBANIAN POLICY IN MACEDONIA

PRISHTINE, JULY 11 (ATA) - A protest was staged today in the Parliamentary party seat in Prishtine against the anti-Albanian criminal policy in Macedonia, proceding from the tragic events in Tetove and Gostivar.

Those present in the demonstration of protest expressed their solidarity with and powerful support for the Albanians in Macedonia who were encouraged not to surrender but to resolutely continue the road for the correct solution to their issue.

The numerous messages sent from all Kosova addressed to Albanians in their ethnic territories in Macedonia stress that in the situations they are faced with in Gostivar and Tetove, the Albanian people will not hesitate to react as a nation. bj/pta/xh

    [09] KILLINGS IN VLORE CONTINUE

VLORE, JULY 11 (ATA) - The killings in Vlore are still continuing. Since very early today, there were two victims, protagonists of a criminal scene which took place within some minutes.

Two youths who tried to steal the car of an old man in the boulevard Vlore-Skele were shot by the latter immediately. The names of the youths, one of whom died, are not yet identified.

Today's event follows other such events in the recent days in Vlore. Fightings between various armed groups have caused many casualties and injured. For various reasons, the number of the wounded from the gunfire, as well as their names are not confirmed by various sources, even official ones.

In the mean time, the injured, in very few cases, are sent to the hospital to take the proper medical treatments.

In the city quarters called Centrale and Cole, numerous patrols and machine guns placed in terraces of buildings are the common view in these days. Based on this, an Italian reporter described Vlora these days as "a phantasm city." xh

[10] VLORE BUSINESSMEN PREY TO KIDNAPPING

VLORE, JULY 11 (ATA) - Businessmen have become subject of kidnapping in the city of Vlore. Some recent events show that they are kidnapped and released then in exchange of great amounts of money.

Two days ago, a victim of such kidnapping also was the businessman P.K. from Vlore who was taken by masked people while he was coming secretly from Tirane to Vlore. Near the city, the van with which he was travelling was stopped by armed people who asked him to come out of the vehicle and then his head was covered by a cloth.

No one knows which is the sum of money asked for his release.

In the mean time, only 4 days ago, the wife of another businessman from Vlore, was released in return of a great sum of money, which is not confirmed as well.

An 18 old man was released some time ago in return of a great sum of money his family paid as an "obligation." xh
