    TIRANA, MAY 11 (ATA)-"The DP is preparing for the great victory" is the deadline of newspaper Rilindja Demokratike. In its editorial entitled:"Everything ready for the electoral campaign", the chief of the DP Organisation department speaks of the electoral scheme. The paper covers the visit of Italian Defence Minister, Beniamino Andreatta, to Albania.

    The paper carries the article:"Multinational force will guard observers", citing Andreatta as saying that the Multinational Protection Force will guarantee the security of thousands of foreign observers to monitor the new parliamentary elections.

    The paper also reports on the visit of Albanian Prime Minister Fino to the U.S. and the meeting he held during a stop in Italy with Italian Prime Minister, Romano Prodi.

    Zeri i Popullit says:"Support for the Albanian Government", about the visit of Prime Minister to Washington. The paper covers the meeting of Fino with Italian Prime Minister Prodi in Rome. As regards the visit of Italian Defence Minister Andreatta, the paper says that: "Italy ready to me et the demands of the Albanian government". The paper also covers the latest sitting of Albanian Parliament under the title: "DP, pyramid which erected pyramids". In the feature "Actuality", the paper carries the article:"NIS monopoly of the presidential office".

    Republika says that "Vlora today will decide on the committees". The paper carries the editorial "The right wing has no time to lose". It also carries an interview with the RP chairman, Sabri Godo, under the title :"Vranitzky should be coordinator of elections in Albania". As regards Andreatta's visit to Albania the paper says that :"Foreign observers will be guarded by the automatic rifles of peace".

    Rilindja reports on the visit of Fino to the U.S. "A visit which will justify Albanian hopes and demands". The paper covers a meeting of the candidate for Albania's throne, Leka Zogu, with Tirana intellectuals. The paper also reports on the news conference of the President of the Republic of Kosova, Ibrahim Rugova, under the title :"Independent Kosova - factor of stability in the region".

    Albania says:"Arben Malaj deceiver - five million dollars from loan-taking companies". The paper carries the editorial entitled:"Fino gives up law to conform to the laws". It carries the article:"Fino will play poker in Washington". The paper also covers the latest parliamentary sitting under the title:"Arben Malaj seeks revolution in Tirana".

    In the feature: "Daily events", regarding the beginning of the legal proceeding 'Anti-genocide 5', the paper carries the article entitled "Interpol is asked Alia's extradition".

    Dita reports that "Southern committees react towards the parties' political contract". In the feature: "Opinion", the paper says: "Can the democrat family be created", while in the feature "Files" the paper says:"Massacred Shkoder expecting calm".

    Koha Jone carries the editorial:"DP does not keep faith with Vranitzky". The paper says:"File of former Defence Minister opens. Some 100 000 weapons and 250 million shells sold under his signature". As regards Andreatta's visit, the paper says:"'Alba' to guard votes".

    Gazeta Shqiptare carries an interview with former Prime Minister Aleksander Meksi, under the title:"I would like to quit Zhulali (former Defence Minister)'. The paper also says:"Horror and fear on the way to Kakavije". kei/lm

    [02] KILLING IN KUKES

    KUKES, MAY 11 (ATA)- By R.Hoxha, An armed gang opened fire on a Kukes van, killing a 27-year-old, at the Qafe e Malit, near the place where the Kukes and Bajram Curri motorways diverge, North of Albania, on Saturday night.

    Two other people in the van were as well seriously wounded by automatic fire.

    Sources from the district police commissariat say that cases of travelers being robbed of their possessions on their way to Tirana have become systematic. s.sh/kei/lm

    [03] TRAVELLERS SYSTEMATICALLY ROBBED OF THEIR POSSESSIONS IN KUKES

    KUKES, MAY 11 (ATA)- By R. Hoxha, Unidentified men have recently systematically robbed Kukes citizens travelling to Tirana of their money, clothes, jewelry and other things.

    The police forces are still powerless to eliminate this phenomenon, which has become systematic and more dangerous on the Shemri (Kukes) - Ura e Fanit (Mirdite), road.

    This has aroused fear and panic also among traders, who hesitate to receive supplies from Tirana, which has caused a shortage of consumer goods and, as a result, also a further price increase. a.ke /kei/lm/k

    [04] ALL SCHOOLS REOPEN IN SARANDE MONDAY

    SARANDE, MAY 11 (ATA)- By Sh. Hajno, Schools of all categories reopen Monday in the Sarande district, Southern Albania.

    The director of the district education department, Perparim Musai, told ATA that "for the resumption of classes I asked the district defence council a separate meeting on May 6, in which the police commissariat expressed readiness to secure the normal conditions."

    [05] OLD PEOPLE'S MONEY IN SINJE OF BERAT ROBBED

    BERAT, MAY 11 (ATA)- Three armed men have robbed 1,3 million leks from the pensions of the old people of the commune of Sinje, Berat district.

    Witnesses says that two days ago these persons threatened the pensions' distributor, robbing him of all the money.

    Even the policeman present on the spot found it impossible to act as the gunmen seized his kalashnikov and the ammunition he had.

    The bandits, inhabitants of this commune, disappeared, leaving their fellow villagers without pensions for the second month in succession. s.sh/kei/lm/k

    [06] ITALIAN MINESWEEPER TO CHECK SHENGJIN PORT

    SHENGJIN, MAY 11 (ATA)- By Z. Pergega, An Italian minesweeper 5557 arrived Sunday at Shengjin port to explore the water depth of the shore from the Rodon Cape to the Buna river bed and check the presence of mines at this distance.

    Also, the Italian specialists of the operation Alba are carrying out hydrographic measurements to define the itinerary of the ships expected to bring humanitarian supplies from the EU.

    According to the same source, the entry channel of this port has not been deepened since the year 1987.     BERAT, MAY 11 (ATA) - A child was the victim of a gunfire in a bar in the city of berat, yesterday at noon.

    Unidentified people have open fire towards the bar of the citizen Arben Keli. As a result of it the child Fotjon Kuci, 13, was killed. kled/xh/sh/

    [09] CRIME INTENSIFIED RECENTLY IN VLORE

    TIRANA, MAY 11 (ATA) - The situation of crime recently in the city of Vlore was tenser, spokesman of the Interior Ministry of Albania reports.

    Within the past four days, 8 people have been killed and scores of others wounded by firearms. All the crimes have been committed by armed gangs for the purpose of looting or settling accounts between rival groups.

    The burnt body of a yet unidentified man was found today in the morning in the vicinity of the village Kanine of this district. The authors of the crime had killed the man and set fire to his body, spokesman reports. ssh/kled/xh/sh/

    [10] CRIME POLICE INSPECTOR KILLED IN KUCOVE

    KUCOVE, MAY 11 (ATA) - Inspector of crime police of the commissariat of the town of Kucove was killed by firearm last night, while he was going home together with his fiance.

    At 10.30 p.m. unidentified people opened fire by machine gun against a private car which caused the death of the inspector of the crime police of Kucova, Alket Dhana, 25, while his fiance was not harmed. kled/xh/sh/

    [11] ANOTHER MILITARY UNIT REORGANIZED IN THE ELBASAN GARRISON

    ELBASAN, MAY 11 (ATA) - The ceremony for the reorganization of another military unit, with active militaries, was held in Elbasan, Central Albania, today.

    Attending the ceremony were the Defence Minister, Shaqir Vukaj, the chief of the General Staff of the Albanian Army, Major General Adem Copani, the prefect Tonin Alimehilli, representatives of the local government and others.

    Through the talks held and the contacts with the neighbouring countries and with many countries of Europe and the U.S., with which relations will further strengthen, assistance is expected in support of the reorganization of the entire army, said Vukaj in his address.

    In the talks with representatives of the local government of Elbasan, the stress was laid in the fact that now the army has the heavy armament in its hands, so it is making the necessary training how to use it. ssh/kled/xh/sh/

    [12] ALBANIAN MINISTER OF DEFENCE LEFT FOR MACEDONIA

    TIRANE, MAY 11 (ATA) - Upon the invitation of the Macedonian Defence Minister Bllagoje Hanxhijski the Albanian Defence Minister Shaqir Vukaj left today for the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to take part in the opening ceremony of the multinational exercise "Rescuer '97", spokesman of this ministry reports.

    The exercise, to be held in the context of the Partnership for Peace and in the spirit of the meeting of the Defence Ministers of the Southern Balkans, held in Albania in spring last year, Albania will be represented by a unit of soldiers.

    During his visit to Macedonia, Minister Vukaj will meet with his counterparts from other countries which take part in the exercise.

    In the meeting with the Macedonian Defence minister, Hanxhijski, minister Vukaj is expected to talk on the bilateral cooperation and the cooperation in the context of the Partnership for Peace between the two armies. ssh/kled/xh/sh/
