[24] PENSIONS FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE STRAIT OF OTRANTO TO BE NEGOTIATED SOON

TIRANE, MAY 2 (ATA) - By Mimoza Allushi: Soon, negotioations will start between the Albanian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and its Italian homologue on the treatment with pensions of the family members of the victims in the Strait of Otranto, Albanian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs reports.

"In these talks we will discuss the establishment of pensions for the drowned and all other obligations stemming from the International Right of Labour," told ATA Elmaz Sherifi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.

As has been informed, 79 people were drowned in the Strait of Otranto, on March 28, among whom many women and children, who had undertaken a dangerous travel at sea, in search of a better life. Inattention on the part of an Italian warship, unfortunately sent them at the depth of the sea. So far, in the talks between the Albanian party and the Italian one it has been demanded that that the drowned be recovered from the depth of the sea so that at least their families have, at least the possibility to pay homage to the late.

The talks on the pensions and all other obligations stipulated in the Human Rights Convention and the International Right of Labour and Social Assistance, for the vitims' families, are the first of this kind that the Albanian Ministry of Labour is making in the context of the completion of the ecomomic assistance plan for all its citizens.

Within 15 days, the contour lines of the Albanian ship, capsized on March 28 in the Strait of Otranto, might be seen, was the decision held on April 29 by prosecutor Leone De Caspri in the Court of Brindizi. Everything will be realised through the technical assistance of an Italian firm, specialized at operations in deep sea. A multy-function robot, known as Rob, will be dropped down to 850 meters at sea, where the ship actually is.

For this case, the Prosecutor's office has two experts, two others are named by the commander of the Italian warship and last two are two Albanian engineers, demanded by the relatives of the victims.

Perhaps this decision will tranquallize to some extend the family members of the drowned in the Strait of Otranto. xh/+++
