  • [01] PREMIER FINO MEETS EU AND OSCE DELEGATION

    TIRANA, MARCH 18 (ATA)- The Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Bashkim Fino, and members of the National Reconciliation Government cabinet yesterday evening had a separate working meeting with the first joint team of the European Union and OSCE, headed by Mr. D'Ansembourg.

    Prime Minister Fino expressed thanks on behalf of the National Reconciliation Government for the EU and OSCE commitment to help overcome the difficult situation created in Albania. He also underlined the fact that the situation in Albania was relatively calm and the social life was returning to normality with each passing day.

    Fino also stressed that measures were being taken to normalise the situation at the Rinas airport and Durres Port. He made known to the foreign delegation the aid priorities which will be soon asked in food and health, finance and in increasing the efficiency of the public order bodies and Defence Ministry.

    On behalf of the EU and OSCE delegation, d'Ansembourg expressed readiness to urgently help the National Reconciliation government to restore law and order in the country and asked from it to guarantee a secure environment to realise the aid projects.

    "Our mandate has to do with urgent humanitarian and food aid in health, short and long tern economic aid as well as aid in the field of s ecurity.

    Later, the EU and OSCE delegation members showed interest in matters of the political situation at home and aspects of technical aid to be accorded to Albania.

    The delegation members will continue today talks with government representatives to define the way of according and distributing the aid from EU and OSCE. eva/lm/sh/

    [02] MEETING OF PREMIER FINO WITH PREFECTS

    TIRANA, MARCH 18 (ATA)- The Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Bashkim Fino, yesterday, had a working meeting with Albanian prefects at his seat to know in detail the situation throughout Albania, according to the Premier's press office.

    After familiarising himself with the situation, Fino told the prefects that the support the Government of National Reconciliation received from the political parties should serve for a sensible and quick improvement of the situation as well as for a more effective return of the state administration and local government bodies to work and their daily missions.

    Fino said that in their performance the state institutions and local government bodies should strictly respect the laws, help the citizens cope with the difficult situation, ensure the supply with bread, drinking water, electricity and other aspects.

    Finally, Fino told the prefects that for all problems they should contact the citizens, local government bodies as well as political forces and transmit them the messages of reconciliation, cooperation and national unity. s.sh/jz/lm/E

    [03] MEASURES TO STABILISE SITUATION IN PERRENJAS

    PERRENJAS, MARCH 18 (ATA)- By P. Zekthi, Measures to normalise the situation created of late are also being taken in the Perrenjas town, Southeastern Albania.

    The town's salvation committee, created two days ago by representatives of all the political forces, has undertaken efficient actions for the supply of the population with the most necessary food items.

    The police in the town have started gathering the weapons seized by the citizens in the arms' depots. s.sh/kled/lm/E

    [04] BREAD SUPPLY NORMALISED IN TIRANA

    TIRANA, MARCH 18 (ATA)- By M. Allushi, Several bakeries today are normally supplying with the most usually consumed bread .

    Due to the destruction of the flour reserves, the flour traders have increased prices in the maximum, amounting up to 60 leks per kg. kled/lm/e

    [05] CITIZENS IN TIRANA AND ELBASAN READY TO HOUSE STUDENTS

    TIRANA, MARCH 18 (ATA)- Many families in the Tirana city and Elbasan town have expressed readiness to temporarily house students of the university dormitories of these two districts.

    The Albanian television last night made public the list of the families (with the respective addresses), which are ready to house these students, already loeft without dormitories, schools, unable to return to their houses in the districts where the situation is yet unstable.

    The dormitories of the students of the "Aleksander Xhuvani" University in Elbasan and of the Agricultural University in Kamez, Tirana, two of the most distinguished universities of the country, comparable with European standards, have been gravely damaged recently by mobs of armed people, who have destroyed everything. A part of them are burned down and the rest irreparable.

    The initiative of tens of families to house the dormitory students remaining with no means of living, is a private initiative, in the name of patriotism and spirit of national reconciliation, the Albanian television said yesterday. eva/jz/lm/z/

    [06] SITUATION IN SHKODER STABILISING

    SHKODER, MARCH 18 (ATA)- By M. Malja, In the Shkoder city, besides the state institutions which returned to work since yesterday, many private firms and enterprises have resumed their productive activity.

    The participants at a meeting with school directors today, organised by the distrcit education department, stressed that all the schools are ready to resume classes.

    According to sources from the city's hospital, there were uncontrolled gunshots last night, due to which two people died and four others wounded.s.sh/kled/lm/sh/

    [07] AUSTRIAN FEDERAL CHANCELLOR AND DEPUTY CHANCELLOR READY TO ACCORD AID TO ALBANIA

    TIRANA, MARCH 18 (ATA) - The deputy chancellor and Foreign Minister, dr. Wolgang Schysel, after the conversation with the Austrian Federal Chancellor, Mag. Viktor Klima, declared that Klima approved the aid which is expected to be accorded to Albania soon.

    The procedural part of delivering the aid and military assistance will be discussed soon with the Albanian party, the Albanian embassy in Wien reports. /jz/mt/k

    [08] AUSTRIA TO PARTICIPATE IN OPERATION OF EUROPE FOR ALBANIA - declares State Secretary for Foreign Policy of Albania, Benita Ferrero-Valdner -

    TIRANA, MARCH 18 (ATA) - "Austria is ready in every moment to participate in the European context of the help for Albania" - declared Tuesday in Vienna the State Secretary for Foreign Policy of Austria, Benita Ferrero-Valdner, during a meeting in the Austrian Foreign Ministry with a group of deputies of Northern Atlantic Treaty. Further on in her statement Mrs. Valdner stresses that "it is completely possible to send a group of specialized policemen, as well a group of 100 Austrian soldiers in Albania".

    During the meeting with the State Secretary of Austria for Foreign Policy, Dr. Benita Waldner, the deputy Frances and the known military expert, Arthur Pecht said that the international community would support Albania through civil and military assistance, concludes the report of the Albanian Embassy in Vienna. /jz/mt/k
