[01] ALBANIA CREATES FACILITIES FOR FOREIGN JOURNALISTSTIRANA, FEB 15 (ATA) - Albania reconfirms its readiness to create facilities for foreign journalists by accelerating the procedure of giving visa to those who are obliged to follow these procedures, says a statement of the Albanian Foreign Ministry on Saturday."While the journalists of the European Union countries can come to Albania without visa (as long as Albania does not apply visa system for the citizens of these countries, including journalists as well), the Press and Information Department has helped to accelerate the procedures of the entrance to Albania of the foreign journalists from non European Union countries (who should be provided with visa)", says the report of the Press and Information Department in this Ministry. With the aim to facilitate the work of all foreign journalists in Albania, or Albanian journalists who work for foreign media and that the Albanian institutions, administration, etc offer the necessary service to the journalists, according to the notice, "it is obligatory that, based on the decision of the Council of Ministers no. 231, dated October 2, 1996 "On foreign journalists and correspondents accredited in the Republic of Albania", the accreditation should be carried out near the Press and Information Department in the Foreign Ministry. The paper reports regarding the meeting of President Berisha with Tirana citizens citing him as saying: "We are to be blamed". /kei/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[03] OPPOSITION WETS JOURNALISTSTIRANA, FEB 16 (ATA) By Agim Baçi: In the Square in front of the "Selman Stermasi" stadium where it was going to be held an illegal rally at 12.00, called by the Forum for Democracy, there was no citizen or leader of the Forum, except the rain and some children who were playing football.Present were only some journalists who got wet from the rain. "At least even the organizers should come to get wet", said one of the journalists. The Forum for Democracy is established with the initiative of the National Association of the Former Politically Prosecuted and left and right opposition political parties participate in it. Police took all the measures to avoid this illegal rally. /kei/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[04] PRESS RELEASETIRANA, FEB 16 (ATA) - Considering that the British Socialist deputies, who have launched a motion, which mentions among other things the gifts the Albanian President has donated to the British Premier during his official visit (we have distributed another press release on this issue today), have been presented as conservative deputies by the analyst of the BBC World Service for the European Southeastern affairs, Gabriel Partosh, as well as by the Albanian left wing press, we express our regret for this deliberate distortion of the facts, President's Press and Information office reports.We notice that such nonprofessional and tendentious distortions have been frequent. /s.sh/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[05] PRESS RELEASETIRANA, FEB 16 (ATA) - On the motion presented by some Labour Members of Parliament, House of Commons, regarding support by Conservative Party for the Albanian Government and the Democratic Party, we emphasize that it is absolutely untrue that the gifts the President of the Republic made to the British Prime Minister and other government ministers during his official visit in London in March 1994 were objects taken from the National History Museum and have historic values. The gifts, like any other gift made to foreign personalities, are artistic items (decorative weapons) produced in recent years in several Albanian towns. The items were purchased by the State Protocol in conformity with the regulations in force. The purchase price for each item did not exceed the value of 10 000 leks ($100). Similar insinuations were made three years ago by the Socialist Party (former Communist Party) of Albania and some newspapers and the Press and Information Office of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic gave all the relevant information. We regret that our explanations have not been taken into consideration by the socialist members of Parliament, the signatories to the motion.We welcome, however, any group of MP's or experts that the British Parliament would decide to send to Albania to investigate the allegations and we assure them of the complete cooperation and openness of the Albanian side. It is likewise untrue that the President of the Republic has supported the pyramid schemes, as the motion insinuates. The President has been categorically opposed to them and remains in the same position. We understand that Great Britain is in the midst of an election campaign and we express our regret at the effort to involve Albanian state institutions into the British political debate, which is quite inappropriate. / Albanian Telegraphic Agency[06] RALLY OF PROTEST IN SARANDESARANDE, FEB 16 (ATA) By Shkelqim Hajno: Some hundred of citizens gathered Sunday at 11.00 in the stadium of Saranda, southern Albania, to protest for the loss of their money in pyramid schemes.The peaceful rally was organized by the SP branch after the decision taken Saturday in a round table held in the headquarters of this party, with the participation of some political forces. The mass of protesters led by the members of the SP Presidency moved to the main square of the city in front of the town hall, shouting: "We want our money", "Vlore, Vlore", as well as slogans against the government. Further on, the member of the SP presidency, Fatmir Muco blamed in his address the government for "the loss of the people's money". In this meeting was also read a statement, drafted in the round table of the political parties, which demanded the resignation of the government and the establishment of a technocrat government, as well as the support of the peaceful protests. /a.ke/kei/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[07] PROTESTS IN VLORE CONTINUEVLORE, FEB 16 (ATA) - The protests in Vlore were held even on Sunday according to the usual ritual. Since Saturday they are planned according to a set time by the protesters themselves, where the people manifest during the morning from 9.00 to 12.00 and in the afternoon from 17.00 to 20.00.The chief of the Vlora Police Commissariat, Ethem Kurti, told ATA that the protests on Sunday have been peaceful and without any incident. He said that they are accompanied by the police forces during the usual itinerary, which, according to Kurti, is done to prevent any possible incident. Meanwhile, according to the same source, it is reported that the police commissariat of this district is under the completion with the necessary staff. The Vlore Mayor, Gezim Zilja was pronounced directly on Saturday for his own citizens in a conversation in the local television Tele-Blu. After he expressed the support to the requests of the Vlore citizens, Zilja answered the questions of the people who made phone calls, regarding the possibilities of coming out of the crisis created. In this talk, Zile spoke about a petition signed by a group of municipal counselors, mainly for the Democratic Party, including his own self, in which were made several proposals to the central power to come out of the crisis, where among others was asked the government resignation. Zilja also guaranteed the citizens of Vlore that he would do everything depended on him to come out of the situation.
