[01] BERISHA HAILS DECISION OF EU COUNCIL OF MINISTERS ON FRIDAYTIRANA, DEC 7 (ATA)-The President of the Republic of Albania, Sali Berisha, on Saturday hailed Friday's decision of the European Union Council of Ministers not to grant the Yugoslav Federation preferential trade terms, the President's Press and Information office reports. This is conditioned by the annulment of the local election results, the non arrest of the suspects of war crimes and the real condition in Kosova. "This decision is a direct benefit not only to the Belgrade students in their liberating mission and the democratic forces in Serbia which merit a full support, but also to peace and stability in our region which are as much threatened by today's Yugoslav mini-federation based on violence, pressure, nationalism and chauvinism as they were threatened by the artificial multi-federation based on the same inhuman principles five years ago," president Berisha said in a statement. "The European decision is surely a real contribution for the application of the Dayton agreement, whose charter, to be more exact, whose blocking is being maliciously used to prolong the political power of those who created the biggest postwar drama in Europe," Berisha said. s.sh/jz/lm/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[02] PRESS REVIEWTIRANA, DEC 8 (ATA)-Today's Rilindja Demokratike carries the article: "The vicious circle of Milosevic". But the latter put its veto last night to lose the battle today. "Today the newly appointed editor-in-chief has not appeared at work, but representatives of ZP reporters and the SP presidency have agreed at a meeting that the new editor-in-chief will be elected by the newspaper's staff, says Bashkim Koci, one of the statement's reporters. "The appointment of Llambro Ruci is a censure and offence for the newspaper's staff", the reporters say in the statement. This is not the only reaction of reporters in the SP of late. It is more like an inevitable consequence of the situation that has long been prevailing inside the SP. The remarks and petitions addressed to the presidency and chairman by the district branches as well as the overt objection by several reporters show that something more is seething underneath the SP. The reporters' first signals of protest were given since in the their first remarks through the newspaper to the presidency. Hence, various remarks began to crystallize when the member of the General Leading Committee, Hamdi Jupe, managed to outline in a long article the ideas of the current he represents in the SP. "The political past of llambro Ruci as a former personal advisor to the top communist nomenclature does not respond to today's status of the free press", says the statement of 15 reporters of Zeri i Popullit. kei/lm/k From the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) Home Page at http://www.telpress.it/ataAlbanian Telegraphic Agency Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
