[04] TIRANA COURT TURNS DOWN REQUEST OF KOLANECI FOR A CHANGE OF HIS FORM OF CUSTODY

TIRANA, DEC 6 (ATA) - The Tirana Court yesterday refuted a request by defendant Klement Kolaneci for the change of the form of custody from his arrest in jail into a lighter detention.

The judge Petrit Kaja found the request unmotivated in view of the danger of the penal act of Kolaneci and demanded the beginning of the penal case for Klement Kolancei, the son-in-law of the late dictator Enver Hoxha, arrested under charges of being involved in the activity of the terrorist organization "Albanian Justice revenge." He is accused of having deposited at his house the money stolen by the organization.

The investigation made so far prove of many meetings of Kolaneci with Orik Shyti, the head of the gang, which Kolaneci's wife has described as part of the work of her husband as an architect.

At the beginning, Pranvera Hoxha, Kolaneci's wife and the daughter of Enver Hoxha, has declared that the 600 thousand dollars in her husband's safe are fruit of his several year work. Later she said that only a few money were found in the safe, as much as were needed for the salaries of the workers of her husband.

After the session yesterday, Kolaneci was sent back to the jail in Durres.

The organization "Albanian justice revenge" is responsible for a great number of crimes and violent thefts. The members of this organization are also responsible for the bomb explosion in the Vefa supermarket in the centre of Tirana on Feb. 26, 1996 and for the killing of the director of jails, Bujar Kaloshi on July 26 this year. kled/xh/k

[09] ALBANIA SUPPORTS INITIATIVE OF COOPERATION OF SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE

TIRANA, DEC 6 (ATA)- Albania fully supports the Initiative of Cooperation of Southeastern Europe whose first meeting opened Thursday at the U.S. mission in Geneva.

In his address, the Albanian representative, Arben Kallamata, stressed Albania's full and powerful support for this initiative. This meeting, besides the 11 countries that were invited from the region (Yugoslavia - Serbia and Montenegro was not invited), was attended by representatives from the EU countries and Russia.

The Albanian representative also regarded as a realistic step the decision taken by the U.S. government to annul the invitation to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

He stressed that Albania had constantly expressed worry over the fact that Belgrade did not respect the fundamental standards of human rights, democracy and rule of law.

The latest local elections in Serbia proved that the manipulations were not an isolated act of the political stand of Serbia.

"The situation in Kosova testifies to a system which systematically and continuously violates all standards of human rights", he said. s.sh/jz/lm/Z/
