[01] ALBANIAN PRODUCER WINS SCHOLARSHIP GIVEN BY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVALTIRANA, NOV 20 (ATA) - Albanian producer Besnik Bisha won one of the scholarships given by the special sector of the International Film Festival, held on November 13-19 in Amiens, France, reports the Albanian Embassy in France.The Albanian producer Besnik Bisha contested for the first time this year among 89 candidates and won the scholarship of USD 10 000. A jury of professionists considered his project as the best of our continent. Producer Bisha was the only one from the participants who immediately had proposals from two producers, a French and an Italian to coproduce the film. /s.sh/kled/mt/Z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[02] ACCUSED OF BORDER KILLINGS GO ON TRIALGJIROKASTER, NOV 20 (ATA)- By H. Cani, The trial against former soldier N.K., non commissioned officer P.T. and officer S.J., accused of crimes against humanity, started at the Gjirokaster district court.The three militaries are accused of killing on June 21, 1990 citizen Thoma Boti from the Bodrisht village of Gjirokaster while they were on duty in one of the border points of this district. But, as the three accused were military officers when the crime was committed, the district panel of judges has decided that this case be referred to the military court. Based on the Penal Code in force, the sentence term for these crimes ranges from 2-10 years in prison. In 1990 the communist government decided not to consider fleeing a treason and then many persons, mainly youngsters, tried to cross the border illegally but were massacred and their bodies were exposed in the border villages to terrorise the inhabitants. pas/lm/z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[03] AUSTRIAN MINISTER OF HEALTH VISITS BURRELI HOSPITALBURREL, NOV 20 (ATA) By Hysen Ruspi: In the course of visits in Albania, the Austrian Minister of Health Dr. Christa Krammer payed Wednesday a visit to the hospital of Burreli, where Caritas of Forarlbergut land exercises its humanitarian activity since three years in Albania.Krammer was accompanied by the Austrian Ambassador in Albania Georg Calice and the Albanian deputy Minister of Health Zamira Sinoimeri. Austrian Minister payed visits in the wards of the hospital, getting closely acquainted with the investments of the Austrian Caritas to improve the conditions in this institution, the most important one in the district. She appreciated the Austrian contribution in this hospital and expressed her engagement to support the further aid projects for this sector. The coordinator who receives and manages the aids for Burreli Hospital, Monika Rojer, told ATA that "up to now the Austrian Caritas has invested some USD 600 000 for reconstructing the equipment of this hospital, and at the same time the infective and pathology wards, operation theatres, surgery and works for the wards of radiology, laboratories and blood conservation center are underway. The Austrian party has thought to open another fund of USD 200 000, which will be used for the construction of several environments and wards of this hospital. /a.ke/mt/Z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[04] "SOLDIERS" OF JEHOVAH REFUSE MILITARY SERVICETIRANA, NOV 21 (ATA) By I Manka:The judicial process started Wednesday in Berati Court (Southern Albania) against the youths of Jehovaji religion, who, in a demonstrative way, refused to attend the obligatory military service. Edlir Lipe, the first who was judged by the military judges and prosecutors, has rejected to attend the obligatory military service, because he is "soldier" of Jehovah religion and joining the military runs counter to his religious principles. The court sentenced Lipe to 4 months in jail. The same sentence will also have his fellows, Lorenc Bushi, Astrit Hysi, Enkelejd Gode, Sajmir Gega, Arben Merko etc. Even these "soldiers" of Jehovah, for the sake of their religious principles refused to attend the military service. The Attorney Office started the legal proceeding against the youths, after the court fined them with 15 000 lek. Some of them are under home arrest and in the following days they will be brought to trial. Gazeta Shqiptare also carries the editorial: "Usuriers under the state's auspices". jz/lm/Z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[06] HRUP DEPUTIES TO TAKE UP SEATS IN ALBANIAN PARLIAMENTTIRANA, NOV 21 (ATA) - Two deputies of the Human Rights Union Party Miço and Milo will take up seats in the Albanian Parliament, reports Albania paper today. They have officially informed that they will take part in the proceedings of the Parliament beginning from today.Only 9 deputies of the Socialist Party will not take up seats in the Albanian Parliament, who even after the recommendations from European parties, continue to boycott it. /jz/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[07] BIG FLOODS IN LEZHA DISTRICTTIRANA, NOV 21 (ATA) - The heavy rains of the three last days have been of grave consequences for the Lezha district (northwestern Albania). Some 1500 hectare of land have been inundated, some 30 houses have been completely destroyed, and cattle were swept away by floodwaters. A part of the railway between Lezha and Shkodra district is damaged, too.The public order forces evacuated immediately the people from the inundated houses. The specialists think that the inundation has also been due to the non cleaning of the Drin river bad and the draining channels. /jz/mt/Z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[08] SITUATION OF GREEK MINORITY EDUCATION IN ALBANIA IS SATISFACTORYTIRANA, NOV 21 (ATA)- P. Shuteriqi, The Albanian-Greek meeting, held in Ioannina recently, considered that the assimilation of mother tongue in the Greek minority schools is at a literary level.From the Albanian side the meeting was attended by Dashnor Nikollai, inspector at the Education and Sports Ministry for the Albanian Language and for those of the National Minorities as well as representatives of the educational departments of the Gjirokaster, Sarande and Delvine districts. Attending from the Greek side were Andonis Kandas, vice-director of the Athens' Aid Institute, Maria Goga, director of Ioannina's affiliate and others.The Albanian general consul in in Ioannina, Eridan Imami, was also invited at the meeting. Both sides considered necessary the submission of a detailed draft- programme for the further qualification of the national minority teachers, who will be provided with technical assistance and training in the "Zosimea" university of Ioannina and others. The education of the Greek minority in Albania extends to the districts of Gjirokaster, Sarande and Delvine as well as to villages of Permeti district. There are some 3 500 children and pupils of the Greek minority studying in their mother tongue and some 400 teachers teaching in these districts' kindergartens and schools.eva/lm/Z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[09] PRESIDENT RUGOVA'S ADVISER DIES FROM WOUNDS SUSTAINED IN ACCIDENTPRISHTINA, NOV 21 (ATA) Prof. Dr. Xhavit Ahmeti, adviser to President of the Republic of Kosova, died Thursday in a Belgrade hospital from wounds he sustained in the morning in a car accident near Smederavo, Serbia, Kosova Information Center (KIC) reports.Two senior LDK officials, Hydajet Hyseni, Vice-Chairman and Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu, Secretary General, as well as Mr. Agim Spanca, driver have been injured in the traffic accident which occurred near the town of Smederevo, in the Nish-Belgrade highway. Hydajet Hyseni told KIC Thursday that Ahmeti, in e very critical condition, had been taken to the Neurology Department in Belgrade, whereas the three others, including himself, who were hospitalized in Smederevo, are out of danger. The Kosovar officials were on their way to Belgrade for official meetings in the embassies of a few Western countries, KIC reports. Ahmeti was an advisor for education issues of the Kosova President. /kei Albanian Telegraphic Agency[10] PRESIDENT BERISHA MEETS WITH AUSTRIAN MINISTER MRS CRAMMERTIRANA, NOV. 21 (ATA) - President of Albania Sali Berisha today met with Mrs Christa Crammer, Federal Minister of Health and Consumer's Protection of Austria.President Berisha appreciated the very good relations of traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries and governments and voiced her gratitude for the generous help and support that the friendly country, Austria, has given and will give to Albania in many fields, including health, which is of a special importance. Austrian Minister Crammer highlighted the successful cooperation between the respective ministries and expressed the commitment of her government to intensify this cooperation. Underlining the rapid increase of welfare she said it was a pleasure to see the dynamism of the people in Albania. President Berisha asked Minister Crammer to convey to Chancellor Vranicki his greetings and desire to welcome him in Albania. xh/sh/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[11] SUSPECTS FOR THE KILLING OF A 9 YEAR OLD BOY DETAINEDTIRANA, NOV. 21 (ATA) - By Atlant Frasheri: Recently the Kruja police detained three suspects believed to be the authors of the killing of a 9- year old boy, Besmir Petrit Tufa from Fushe Kruja, Central Albania.The three people are Klojdi Gashi, Arben Gjokena and Fran Ndoja. Investigation continues to clarify the circumstances of the event. Tufa, who was missing since October 28 this year, was found in a pit by the River Lumi i Zi, on November 18. The corpse had signs of wounds in the neck and chest, caused by sharp means. ssh/eva/xh/sh/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[12] RELATIONS BETWEEN ALBANIA AND AUSTRIA ON THE ROAD OF CONTINUOUS INTENSIFICATION - Mr CrammerTIRANA, NOV. 21 (ATA) - Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania Tritan Shehu today met with the Austrian Minister of Health and Consumer's Protection, Mrs Christa Crammer."I am so pleased that Austria has a good name in Albania," said Mrs Crammer at the start of the talk. She focused on the successful cooperation with Albania in the field of health, and the plans for further materialization of this cooperation. Considered in a broader aspect, continued Mrs crammer, the relations between the two countries are continuously growing because there is not any question which may hamper their intensification. Mr Shehu thanked the Austrian Government for the aid to Albania in these years of great transformations in all the fields. "My visit to Austria last week," said Mr Shehu," was a confirmation of the very friendly climate existing between our two countries." They discussed the cooperation between Albania and South Carolina and in particular the partnership between the National Guard of South Carolina and the Albanian Army, spokesman of the Defence Ministry reports. The civil control in the army and the assistance by the army in case of emergency were the main topics of the talks in the National Guard of South Carolina where the State Secretary for Defence Demi and the team of the ministry had a meeting with deputy adjutant general Schuler. During its stay in Columbia, the Albanian delegation visited the Operational Centre and the state branch of preparation for emergencies. The Albanian team attended different exercises in South Carolina. ssh/kled/xh/SH/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[15] AZEM HAJDARI DISCHARGED FROM POST OF CHAIRMAN OF PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION OF PUBLIC ORDER AND NISTIRANA, NOV 21 (ATA) - By Agim Baci, Atlant Frasheri: The Parliamentary Commission of Public Order and National Information Service (NIS) today discharged deputy Azem Hajdari from the post of the chairman of this commission.Regarding the motives for Hajdari's discharge from the post of the chairman, Mr A Simaku, secretary of the Parliamentary Commission of Public Order and NIS explained to ATA that "the members of the Commission, taking into consideration the recent acts by deputy Azem Hajdari, which run counter to the post of the chairman, and his involvement in trade union circles and total commitment to their activities, decided to take this decision," said A Simaku, secretary of the Parliamentary Commission of Public Order and NIS. According to Simaku, "commitment of Azem Hajdari to these activities has been a serious obstacle in the work of the commission." Mr Simaku also mentioned as another reason which led this commission to the above decision the fact that Mr Hajdari, being in the post of the chairman of the Commission of Public Order and NIS, has flagrantly violated the rules for a chairman and has gone beyond his parliamentarian competence, ordering the forces of order to carry out various acts without having the right to." "Discharge of Hajdari from the post of the commission chairman is a decision of the commission itself, taken for objective motives," said DP chairman, Tritan Shehu, asked immediately after the decision of the commission. In reply to a question about a possible request for removal of immunity of deputy Hajdari by a group of DP, Shehu said: "I have not received any official report regarding such a demand by the DP parliamentary group."
