    TIRANA, NOV. 15 (ATA) - By Flora Nikolla: One of the masterpieces of world dramaturgy, "Don Juan" of Moliere is being performed for the first time before the Albanian public in the National Theater in Tirana these days.

    The well-known actor of Albanian stage, Artan Imami, together with a group of newly-graduated youths, members of the Experimental Studio of the National Theater, are those who have put the masterpiece on stage.

    Critics of theater, actors, producers considered the premiere a success of Imami and actors of the experimental studio of youths.

    Imami, who has not performed on the Albanian stage for almost two years, said that "since my very beginning as an actor, Don Juan has intrigued me." "The comedy of Moliere," he said, "gives me freedom in my job as a producer, the characters are described well and complete." kei/xh/

    [03] PROBLEMS OF EMIGRATION IN FOCUS OF DEMYC AND DPYF SEMINAR

    TIRANA, NOV 15 (ATA) By Atlant Frasheri: Emigration and immigration, the policies followed to realize it in Albania were some of the issues discussed in the seminar "Youth migration in Europe", which started its proceedings in Tirana. The seminar, organized by DEMYC (The Executive Committee of the Democratic Youth of the European Community) and DPYF (Democratic Party Youth Forum) leads the 71st meeting of DEMYC.

    "The sensitizing of EC, different western governments and bodies, which have migration the object of their work, is the main aim of this seminar", said the member of DPYF Presidency Lorenc Ligori.

    The deputy Minister of Labour, Emigration and Social Assistance, Fatmir Bektashi talked about the policy of the Albanian Government on migration during the last four years.

    He mentioned the only concrete agreement between Albania and Germany, according to which some 500 people can be employed in Germany every year.

    "We have reached a political understanding with Greece and Italy to sign an agreement on legalizing the emigrants in these countries, but we have not sign it yet," said Bektashi.

    (During the talks that the Albanian Premier, Aleksander Meksi, held with Greek Premier Kostas Simitis, in the meeting of the Black Sea initiative, the latter promised this problem to be solved within these four years.)

    Albania is the first country in the Eastern Europe, in which DEMYC holds the regular meeting of its executive. /jz/mt/sh/

    [04] TRIAL OF EX-SENIOR OFFICIALS ACCUSED OF ELIMINATION OF DOSSIERS CONTINUES

    TIRANA, NOV. 15 (ATA) - By Eva Allushi: "The head of the ministry was authorized to approve the elimination or not of the documents," said the witness, Bajram Yzeiri, formed Interior minister in the Stability Government in the judicial session for Irakli Kocollari and Vladimir Hysi (ex-senior officials of the State Sigurimi.) The witness threw light on the practice followed for the elimination of the dossiers. According to him, there were some "type" of lists which defined the deadlines for the dossiers to be held in archives.

    Irakli Kocollari, former chief of NIS and Vladimir Hysi, former Interior Minister are under charges of abuse of office for having signed special orders for the elimination of the dossiers of Sigurimi in the districts of Librazhd, Elbasan, Tepelene and Gramsh.

    Kocollari is also accused of crimes against humanity because when he was investigator in the district of Korca he has tortured the detained accused of political motives.jz/xh/SH/

    [05] MEETINGS OF ALBANIAN MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND FOOD IN ROME

    TIRANA, NOV. 16 (ATA) - The Albanian Minister of Agriculture and Food, Bamir Topi, who is taking part in the World Food Summit going on in Rome, had meetings with Fulop Benedek, State Secretary for Agriculture of Hungary, with Rafael Eltan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of Israel, with Sulejman Hj. Daud, Minister of Agriculture of Malaysia, Muhamed A Abdul Mohsen Al Refaei, public authority of Agriculture and Fishing of Kuwait, with Micchele Pinto, Minister of Agriculture of Italy, Philippe Vassem, Minister of Agriculture of France, Peter Bako, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Food of Slovakia, with the Minister of Agriculture of Ireland and with Mare Bral, director of Investment Program in FAO.

    In the meetings, Mr Topi spoke about the great changes in the Albanian agriculture and discussed the consolidation of cooperation of Albania with the above mentioned countries in the field of agriculture, the possible investments, the participation of these countries in joint projects, development of agro-tourism in Albania. With some countries like Italy, Israel, Hungary, the parties in the talks agreed to sign special agreements in the field of agriculture. ssh/kled/xh/sh/

    TIRANA, NOV. 16 (ATA) - Rilindja demokratike makes coverage of the meeting of Italian President Scalfaro with Albanian President Berisha, under the title "Continuous support of Italy for Albania." The paper writes "World Bank declares its report," "Success of projects in Albania." RD also carries an interview of the Albanian Premier Aleksander Meksi with this paper on the relations of Albania with EIB under the title "European Investment Bank will give an impulse to the economic development." In its third page the paper carries the full address of the deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, Tritan Shehu to the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

    Zeri i Popullit writes: "Why did Minister Bode speak and then kept silence about usuries?!" Reflecting the meetings for the creation of the district and municipal councils in Lezha the paper writes: "Socialists win the post of the deputy chairman in the district and municipal councils."

    Republika writes: "Should Albanians play any longer with usuries?!" The paper reflects an analysis of the Albanian Republican Party of the polls. It has also articles entitled: "Arms collector punished," and "Former municipal council of Tirana in court."

    Lajmi i dites writes about the meeting of Albanian President Sali Berisha with deputy president of the European Investment Bank, Panagiotis Gennimatas, under the title "Priority to intensification of bilateral cooperation." The paper writes about the opening in the capital of the fair "Tirana Trade '96."

    Under the headline "When the IMF officials continue to keep silence," Albania writes: "Who attempted to 'kill' usuries?!" The paper entitles one of its editorials "Strategy of the opposition denial."

    Rilindja writes of the 51st Session of the U.N. General Assembly, citing the special rapporteur Elisabeth Renn: "If we do not solve the question of Kosova, a new conflict threatens the region." The paper writes about the news conference of the President of Kosova, Ibrahim Rugova, under the title "We want that U.S. be a participant in the solution to the Kosova question."

    Koha Jone entitles its editorial "The state accuses itself." It carries an interview of the democrat deputy Azem Hajdari which responds accusations by the newspaper Albania.

    Gazeta Shqiptare writes "Dossier for Azem Hajdari opens?" about the charges of corruption and smuggling for Hajdari in the Albania paper. Gazeta Shqiptare also carries an interview with Nicola Zingaretti, president of the International Union of Socialist youths and deputy president of the Socialist International under the title "SP (of Albania) should go to parliament."

    Dita Informacion publishes an interview of Hajdari about the accusations in his address, and cites him to have said: "I fear nobody." The paper writes: "Chewing gums arouse problems for customs' workers." eva/kei/xh/sh/

    [07] DEPUTY PREMIER AND FOREIGN MINISTER ENDS MEETINGS IN VIENNA

    TIRANA, NOV 16 (ATA)- Albanian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Tritan Shehu met, during his visit to Vienna, at the Austrian Kreditanstalt- Bankverain, with members of the bank's leading board, headed by its president, Dr. Freimuth.

    "We have closely followed the changes carried out in your country and the very positive results of the economic reforms and policy arouse our interest to come to Albania", Freimuth said.

    Freimuth emphasised the interest of this bank especially in the energy and construction sectors, the participation in privatisation and the newly created stock-exchange.

    Shehu stressed that the Albanian financial policy over the next four years will be active and liberal.

    Shehu also met with the Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Franz Hums.

    Shehu stressed the close cooperation that should exist between the two ministries of Labour and Social Affairs.

    Austrian minister Hums said that Albania has made vary great and fast changes in the market economy and construction of democracy.

    In his meeting with the Austrian Interior Minister, Caspar Einem, Shehu made known the great efforts for the reconstruction of the public order forces in Albania.

    Einem expressed delight over the agreement expected to be signed by the two interior ministries soon.

    Shehu's activity on Saturday closed with the meeting with the Secretary General of the European Democratic Union, Aleksis Vintoniak, and the chairman of the Foreign Policy Commission for the conservative group in parliament, Wolfgang Grossruk.

    At this meeting Shehu spoke of the political situation in Albania after the elections. jz/lm/Z/

    [08] ALBANIAN LAWYERS WANT VICTORY OVER GREEKS

    TIRANA, NOV 16 (ATA)-By E.Allushi,

    The football fans of the Greek capital, Athens, on December 4, will have the pleasure to follow a rare football match, in which it will not be "Panathinaikos" playing but two quite special football teams, composed of Albanian and Greek lawyers.

    The organisers of this activity say that the focus of the trip of 20 Albanian lawyers to Athens will be a three-day seminar to exchange experience on different issues of justice. The seminar will be followed by a friendly football match among lawyers.

    Regarding the composition of the two teams, the "coaches" prefer to keep silent. However, unconfirmed sources report that the goalkeeper of the Albanian team will be the chairman of the Lawyers' Chamber, Kleanthi Koci.lm/Z/

    [09] ALBANIAN PRESIDENT SPEAKS AT FAO WORLD SUMMIT

    TIRANA, NOV 16 (ATA)- President of the Republic Sali Berisha spoke on Saturday at the FAO world Summit, being held in Rome.

    Berisha linked the food and nutrition issue, more than anything else, with life and the right to live.

    "Unfortunately, also today, the problems of hunger and scarcity of food remain the key problems of humankind, the main causes of diseases and deaths in our planet", said Berisha.

    In his address Berisha referred to Albania's dark and wretched experience over the 50 years of communist super-collectivisation. He regarded Albania of the beginning of the '90s as on the brink of a real hunger catastrophe.

    He said Albania is grateful to the European Union and its member countries, the U.S. and other friendly countries for their solidarity and generosity.

    Berisha linked the nutrition issue with peace, stability and free initiative. He stressed that over the last four years has has shown that it is among the peninsula's stable countries contributing to peace and stability in the Balkan region.

    Berisha mentioned the profound political, economic, legislative, institutional and other reforms carried out in Albania over the last years.

    He said that the changes in agriculture are very significant. He explained that since '92 in Albania the land has been privatised and more than 400 000 small farms have been created all over the country.

    Berisha referred to the cooperation with FAO and stressed that many projects have been realised and are underway for the improvement of the infrastructure of the rural areas, roads and water supply, reconstruction of schools and health centers and other projects.

    Berisha stressed that Albania is working to draft a general national programme on food safeness. a.ke/jz/lm/Z/

    [10] TWELVE BUSINESS PLANS IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION

    TIRANA, NOV 15 9ATA)- By P. Shuteriqi, The Albanian - U.S. Agency of Information and Economic Cooperation, which has been active in Albania since 1994, has helped with credits 12 business plans in agricultural, livestock and industrial production.

    "Considerable investments have been carried out in tourism and construction", Pilo Andoni, chairman of the directors' board of the agency says. eva/lm/Z/
