[06] STRONG REACTIONS AFTER STATEMENT OF MONTENEGRIN SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT

TIRANA, AUGUST 19 (ATA) - A statement of Seto Zamarovicic, Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament, to a Belgrade's magazine, where he names Albanians and Muslims in Montnegro as ethnic minorities, caused strong reactions in the Montenegrin opinion, radio the "Voice of America" said.

The Democratic Forum for the Defence of Human Rights, the Helsinki Committee in Montenegro, leaders of political parties and different political analysts consider the Zemrovicic's division of peoples in majority and minority as an absolutist division which aims to ignore the development of the national communities.

According the above Forum, this Montenegrin official statement does not suit to the international organisations for the defence of the human rights and peoples represented in the UN.

Idependent Montenegrin analysts think that the categorisation of minorities and their relations with other national communities should be realised in an objective way.

"If Albanians and Muslims are ethnic minorities then even the Serbs in Montenegro should be considered an ethnic minority" they said.

Even the Social Democratic Party deputy in the Montenegrin Parliament Dragisha Borzhan, in a statement in the opposition magazine "Liberal" calls Albanians and Muslims "autochthonous people."

"Neither Albanians come from Detroit nor Muslims from Bosporus they live for centuries in their land" said Borzhan.

He said that the efforts of the Montenegrin officials to impose to Albanians and Muslims the status of minority may become source of conflicts in Montenegro. sk/jz/fh/

Although the population of Tirana has reached some 600000 inhabitants, twice that of year '80, the weddings are lowering.

While on the capitals' roads and bars you can see more couples of youths who embrace and kiss each other without caring for old traditions and canons.

A new phenomena causing such a thing is the living together.

A couple, who had just graduated in economics, asked why do not marry after three years together answered " We feel very well like that, both are employed in private firms and will live together without the need of legalising our relation." kei/fh/Z/

[14] ILLYRIAN-ALBANIAN SAINTS' DAY IN KOSOVA

PRISTINA, AUG 19 (ATA)-By B.Jashari, The Saint's Day of the Illyrian- Albanian Ulpiana and Dardania was celebrated on August 18 in the Prizreni parish.

Attending the solemn pontifical Mass celebrated in the Albanian catholic church in Grazhdanik, which is named after St Flori and St Lauri, 117-138 After Christ, were many catholic and other believers from all over Kosova, ministers of the Kosova Bishopric parishes and Father Hil Kabashi.

St Flori and St Lauri are the first Illyrian-Albanian martyrs were were sacrificed for spreading Christianity.

On the Saint's Day, the President of the Republic of Kosova, Dr.Ibrahim Rugova, sent a message of greetings to Monseigneur Mark Sopi, bishop of the Kosova Bishopric, the Kosova center of information reports.

"We believe that we will celebrate our Saint's day in Ulpiane of Pristina, in Kosova' freedom and independence, as a people's holiday," the message says.

August 18th is the Saint's Day of Illyrian-Albanian Ulpiana and Dardania, Flori and Lauri, who have been living in the years 117-138 After Christ.

Ulpiana, center of Dardania, the ancient name of today's Kosova, was one of the 20 cities of Southern Illyria including Shkodra, Lisus, Dyrrahium, Skampa, Apolonia, Bylis, Amantia, Aulona, Butrinti and other cities, which survived also in the Byzantium period.

Ulpiana, which is being ruined by the Serbs, is preserving in its bosom the values of civilization of this important city of ancient Illyrian Dardania and shows that the Balkan history does not begin in the 14th century as pretended by the Serbs, but many centuries earlier, when they had not yet arrived in the peninsula.

The Serbs have destroyed in Kosova basilica, cult institutions, cemeteries, mosaics and many paintings and sculptures of great value.

For seven years on end (1980-1987), the Archaeological Institute of Belgrade has carried out archaeological excavations and plundered from Ulpiana hundreds of exponents of Albanian cultural-historical values.

More over, last year, the Serbs made use of bulldozers to open up channels in the archaeological center of Ulpiana.

The same Serb strategy has been used in the ancient city of Siparunt of Peja, the urban center of Pristina and the old cemeteries in Zvecan i Vogel of Mitrovica, where a settlement for the Serb refugees is being set up. a.ca/lm
