[01] ALBANIAN PARLIAMENT DISCUSSES GOVERNMENT PROGRAMME

After the Tuesday morning session in which Premier Aleksander Meksi responded questions by deputies regarding the new government's programme presented a day before, in the afternoon session the deputies discussed the programme.

The deputies asked Premier Meksi to analyse and explain in detail various problems dealing with the reformation of the Albanian economy, which is the main aim of the Democratic Government for this legislature.

Meksi responded to deputies' concerns about employment and property, further development of the privatisation process, the functioning of the financial and labour market, public investments and price policy, infrastructure and social insurances, problems of public order, further development of the education and health system and treatment of concrete problems of certain areas.

The deputies discussed the government's programme for the next four years. They appreciated the programme presented, considering it a programme of ambitious objectives and completely realisable. kei/lm/k

[02] COOPERATION OF VLORA UNIVERSITY WITH FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES EXPANDED

The Ismail Qemali University of the Vlora city, southwestern Albania, since its creation two years ago, has been cooperating with many European and American universities.

The university cooperates with the Naval Engineering Faculty of the Athens University and the Technical Institute of the Patras city, with the Lecce University in Italy, where teachers have also been sent for training, and with the University of Angers in France. It is realising the first phase of a programme with the Nebraska University in the United States to raise an assistance center for businessmen.

The rectorate of this university considers important the successful realisation of a three year business programme with the "Staforsite" University in England, as part of the "Tempus" project, as well as another three year naval engineering cooperation programme with the Naval University of Naples in Italy. s.sh/kei/lm/k
