[02] ALBANIA AND US TO HOLD JOINT MILITARY EXERCISES

TIRANA, JUNE 25 (ATA) - By F. Vladi: A new Albanian-American military exercise code-named Salvation Eagle will be launched in the context of the Partnership for Peace initiative, a spokesman of the Albanian Defence Ministry said.

The spokesman did not say anything about the venue and time of the exercise but informed on yesterday's planning conference regarding the exercise.

"The preliminary data say that this peaceful exercise will have a greatest dimension and a wider participation of the U.S. forces in Europe: marines of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, ground forces, and larger logistic support, engineering forces and others," the statement said.

    [03] ALBANIAN PARLIAMENT IS LEGAL

TIRANA, JUNE 25 (ATA) - The essence of a draft resolution which is being worked out by the Political Commission of the Council of Europe after last evening's meeting with the Albanian politicians is that the newly elected Albanian parliament is legal and new elections are unlikely to be held in Albania, according to officially non-confirmed sources.

The draft resolution, according to the above sources, said, "Although the legitimacy of the newly elected parliament cannot be doubted, the trust on democratic processes in Albania should be encouraged. It also pointed out that the Albanian government and opposition are responsible for the present situation."

The Political Commission said that "based on the cooperation of the Albanian political forces and the Council of Europe it is essential to promote links between Tirana and Strasbourg. Meanwhile, all the Albanian political forces should enter into a dialogue to overcome the situation. The Council of Europe is ready to help the dialogue." jz/ak/Z/

[04] FOREIGN COMMISSION OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT DEBATES ABOUT ALBANIA

TIRANA, JUNE 25 (ATA) - The Foreign Commission of the European parliament discussed again the elections in Albania earlier today, according to sources in Brussels.

Conservative and liberal deputies, members of the commission, strongly reacted against the last resolution of the European parliament on the elections in Albania and urged its reviewing on the basis of new facts.

Austrian Euro deputy Dr Jung considered totally regular the elections in Albania.

"Albania comes after an unprecedented 50-year-old communist dictatorship without the minimum experience to govern a rule of law and democracy. We should not ask Albania have the standards of Italy, Austria or Germany in the elections," Jung said.

He added: "Albania has achieved an admiring progress in all fields and does not deserve to be denigrated unjustly."

Other deputies discussed the elections in Albania, an issue which will be further discussed in the next meeting of the Commission. jz/ak/Z/
