[04] BELGRADE AND TUZLA CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE ON PROMOTION OF COOPERATIONTanjug, 1998-05-28Presidents of the Belgrade and Tuzla Chambers of Commerce, Branislav Vujinovic and Ismir Ismirovic, told Tanjug at the end of a two-day visit of businessmen from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Belgrade that they expected speedy and concrete agreements on strengthening economic cooperation between companies. Vujinovic said that the value of this year's Yugoslav- Bosnia-Herzegovina trade might amount to between 800 million and one billion dollars. In addition to the importance of trade with the Republika Srpska, the economy of the Muslim-Croat Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina is expected to take a greater part in these deals, especially the economy of the Tuzla canton, a major industrial and consumer centre with 700,000 inhabitants, Vujinovic said. Economic restoration is about to take place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ismirovic said. The international community has announced a 5,100,000,000-dollar investment in the reconstruction of the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Belgrade, Serbian and Yugoslav economies are expected to take an important part in these deals, Ismirovic said. [05] INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "CUSTOMS AGAINST DRUGS"Tanjug, 1998-05-28A two-day International Conference "Customs against Drugs" opened in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday. The conference is attended by representatives of nine countries, including the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The head of the Yugoslav delegation, Federal Customs Administration Director Mihalj Kertes, said in his address that Yugoslav customs and police have achieved great successes in this field although no foreign aid was received. "This specially refers to the period between 1992 and 1995 when we were totally left to our own resources. After this period, partial relations were established with Interpol and the customs of other European countries. If this cooperation were to return to previous levels, Yugoslav successes in preventing drug trafficking would be the greater," Kertes said. He recalled that the ancient Balkan drug route leads from Turkey, via Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Hungary, towards western Europe, the United States and Canada. Kertes said that the biggest quantities of narcotics were seized at the Gradina border crossing, on the Yugoslav-Bulgarian border. According to him, 1996 was a record-breaking year when 190 kilograms of heroine were uncovered in a Slovenian truck carrying vegetables, while a Bulgarian trucker tried to smuggle as much as 373 kg of this drug. Recently, another "drug route" was uncovered leading from Albania towards Yugoslavia, mainly via the Skadar Lake, Kertes said. The conference, attended also by customs officials from France, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia and Slovenia, ends on Friday. [06] SERBIAN PARLIAMENT SPEAKER RECEIVES OSCE DELEGATIONTanjug, 1998-05-28Serbian Parliament Speaker Dragan Tomic received a delegation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, headed by OSCE Assembly President Javier Ruperez, the Serbian Parliament said in a statement. Tomic informed Ruperez, who also heads the Spanish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, and the other delegation members about the current political situation in Yugoslavia, especially Serbia, and leadership's activities aimed at overcoming and resolving problems in Kosovo and Metohija. Within the cooperation realised by the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia with the OSCE, the Republic of Serbia in 1997 had intensive and useful contacts with OSCE representatives and today's visit by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly is a chance to upgrade them. Yugoslavia, as a sovereign European country and OSCE's founder, has the full right to demand its return in the organisation it founded, the statement said and added that the decision on its suspension was untenable and unjust since as an active participant in the Dayton Peace Accords and the Paris document, it had given an immeasurable contribution to its implementation. Yugoslavia's return to the OSCE would have a further influence on the easing of political tension in this part of Europe. Yugoslavia is ready for a full normalisation of relations and equal cooperation with the OSCE with a previous mutual and clear defining of an agreement on mandate. Within its visit to Yugoslavia, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly delegation will visit Kosovo and Metohija, where it will meet with key Serbian officials, the statement said.
