[03] YUGOSLAV GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE DISCUSSES COOPERATION WITH U.N.

    Tanjug, 1997-07-01

Yugoslav Government Commitee for cooperation with the U.N. missions and forces held a session on Tuesday, chaired by Yugoslav Prime Minister Radoje Kontic and discussed the cooperation and the current issues in relations with the SFOR, the Yugoslav Information Secretariat has said.

The session also discussed the violations of the Yugoslav air space and the issues concerning cooperation with the United Nations Liaison Bureau in Belgrade (UNLOB), the U.N. Monitoring on Prevlaka (UNMOP), the U.N. Transitional Adnminstration for Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES), the U.N. Preventive Deployment Force in Macedonia and the Stabilization Force in Bosnia (SFOR).

The Committee assessed that the Yugoslav organs cooperate very well with all U.N. missions and in line with their mandates and the responsibilties taken by Yugoslavia. The Committee sharply condemned the unfounded arrest of the former Mayor of the town of Vukovar Slavko Dokmanovic, effected jointly by the War Crime Tribunal in Hague and UNTAES on June 27.

The arrest of Dokmanovic is not within the responsibilities of the U.N. in the region of Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srem, is detrimental to the reputation of the U.N. and will have a negative effect on repatriation and permanent stay of the Serbs in the region, the committee said. The Committee also urged the U.N. transitional administrator Jacques Klein to immediately take all necessary measures for release of Dokmanovic.

The session aslo discussed the data pertaining to the violations of the air space of Yugoslavia by the U.N. and NATO aircraft in the last two years. Accepting the data, the Committee assessed that any future violations of the air space should be recorded and responded to, in order to prevent the jeopaordizing of the security and integrity of Yugoslavia in this manner.
