[01] DEMIREL'S CONTACTS IN GERMANY
President Suleyman Demirel, who is in Germany for a four-day
official visit, gave a written note to German Foreign Minister
Klaus Kinkel regarding Turkey-EU relations yesterday. The note
said: "Turkey-EU relations and the Customs Union process cannot
function in today's atmosphere in which the issue of Turkey's
full EU membership is not certain". In the note, Demirel
requested that Germany use its credibility in the EU on behalf of
Turkey.
Regarding his meetings with the German President, the Prime
Minister and the Foreign Minister, Demirel noted that the German
government's attitude towards the PKK was clear, saying: "The PKK
is a terrorist organization. PKK activities are prohibited in
Germany which supports
