NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - Session of the B&H Council of Ministers, scheduled for 11:00a.m. in Srpsko Sarajevo, has been cancelled because of lack of quorum, Cabinet of the chairman Boro Bosic announced.

VIENNA - Austrian Foreign Affairs Minister Wolfgang Schussel said in Wachau that "Kosovo and Metohija are to be the most difficult and dangerous threat for our foreign policy" with which Austria would have to deal during its presiding of the EU. Shussel expressed conviction that tensions in Kosovo could be reduced only by joint efforts of the U.S. and Europe and the NATO involvement could be unavoidable.

VIENNA - We will not withdraw until we create great Albania - said in an interview with Vienna daily "Standard" one of commanders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) , Arben, adding that even NATO will not stopped them to achieve that goal. "The KLA is people" - said Arben adding that "Rugova is already dead". "We already have management of our own in liberated territories while those in Pristina still think that can achieve something in a peaceful manner" - said Arben.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Army were using, in the war in Vietnam a deadly poisoned nerve gas Sarinn against the American deserters who were trying to run away to Laos - the American TV network CNN and the weekly paper "Time" reports. They were using this poison under code name "Operation Thailand's wind". The U.S. have never admitted that they were using Sarinn in the war.

SARAJEVO - The Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) annual Assembly is holding in Pale at which should be adopted a series of documents regarding further work of the party, before elections in September. The SDS Assembly should also adopt programme resolution of the party in which, among other things, should be discussed state-political events in Republika Srpska (RS), ways of strengthening of the RS sovereignty, a concept of privatisation, problem of refugees, arbitration in the region of Brcko and the forthcoming elections. The Agenda will include also a Proposal of changes and amendments of the SDS Statute and political stance before the general elections which are due to have , according to the rules of the Provisional Election Commission, all parties in elections.

WASHINGTON - Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic approved for foreign mediators to come in Kosmet - the "New York Times" said. According to this paper, citing statements of high officials from the Clinton Administration, the first foreign mission could start today. The "New York Times" said that Milosevic during the weekend met the American Ambassador to BJRM Christopher Hill and Milosevic approved arrival of foreign mediators in Kosmet.

BELGRADE - President of the Serbian Resistance Movement Momcilo Trajkovic confirmed that invitations for Svesrpski Sabor on June 11th and 12th were given to the highest political officials in RS because "with their experience they could help in solving of crisis in Kosovo and Metohija". In the statement for SRNA he said that invitations have been forwarded to the RS President Biljana Plavsic, the RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik and President in the B&H Presidency from RS Momcilo Krajisnik. "I expect for the RS leadership to answer and to take part" - said Trajkovic. "Kosovo may have to be the last chance for Serb people to unite and we must be in accordance about a minimum of problems".

LUXEMBOURG - The EU Foreign Affairs Ministers reached an agreement in Luxembourg that against Serbia must be applied a ban on foreign investments which is "a clear response on politics of the Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic in Kosmet". The EU "is ready to continue with implementation of other measures against the official Belgrade, unless Yugoslav authorities are to prevent violence in Kosovo", is said in the statement from the session of the Foreign Affairs Ministers.

PARIS - Representatives of six countries, members of the Contact Group for the former Yugoslavia will have a meeting on June 10th in Paris to prepare a meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers, members of the Group, scheduled for June 12th in London - said French Foreign Affairs Ministry spokeswoman An Gaso-Secre. She was very reserved about the NATO involvement in Kosovo.

ISTANBUL - The highest diplomats from nine Balkan countries will discuss at the Regional meeting in Istanbul a crisis in Kosovo and will try to find a solution for this problem - Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry announced. This two-day meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers or their deputies from FRY, Turkey, Greece, Albania, BJRM, B&H, Croatia, Rumania and Bulgaria has been planed as a part of regular consultations but because of unexpected events, Kosovo and Metohija will be the topic of the meeting.

PRISTINA - Groups of Albanian terrorists attacked, from automatic weapons, machine guns and mortars, Serb villages of Banje and Suvo Grlo near Srbica - SRNA has learned from the Municipal authorities in Srbica. People from these villages organised defence and after a fight they had rejected terrorists, who had retreated in the nearby forest.

AMSTERDAM - The NATO soldiers will not enter Kosovo and Metohija territory because the NATO members are stopped by different interests and a price of this kind of operation as well as with behaviour of para-military Albanian groups - is a stance of military experts from the NATO, Dutch media reports. The Dutch media said that Kosmet is highly dangerous place for the NATO troops, and structure, schedule and equipment of the so called "Kosovo Liberation Army" are unknown for the NATO command which according to their estimations is not ready for guerrilla way of fighting. Some analysts claims that Albanians from Kosovo would be ready to fight against the NATO troops if their requests would not be fulfilled.

ZURICH - Former President of Albania Sali Berisa is a leading man in smuggling of arms from Albania for the terroristic organisation "Kosovo Liberation Army" - the Swiss paper "Tages Einezinger" reports. According to some estimations during last year's clashes in Albania from barracks has been removed approximately 100,000 peaces of different arms.

BELGRADE - Leaders of the Democratic Party and Socialdemocracy Zoran Djindjic and Vuk Obradovic confirmed for SRNA that they would form "Union of Change" as a new Association of oppositional parties in Serbia. The Association will organise gatherings, and will call citizens of Serbia on mass strikes, demonstrations and protests while their first request would be scheduling of early federal elections.

THE HAGUE - Former commander of the Croatian Council of Defence (HDZ) from Vitez Ante Furundzija is on trial now before the Hague War Crimes Tribunal, accused that he had done nothing to prevent rapes of Muslim women in the village of Nadioci near Vitez - the AFP reports. He has been accused that he had allowed to one of his friends to threat with knife to one young woman unless "she tells the truth", to rape her, after he had beaten up two other victims, by which he violated the laws and war regulations.

SARAJEVO - Newly elected leadership of the Croatian Democratic Community (HDZ) accused Croatian President in the B&H Presidency Kresimir Zubak because of intention to draw in Croats in the unitary B&H - Muslim media reports. The HDZ from Hercegovina reproached Zubak because he accepted forming of joint Federation police, joint license plates and registration cards in Latin and Cyrillic and forwarded him a sharp critics because of his attempt of division of the HDZ and foundation of new party.

BANJALUKA - Government's office for coordination of the World Bank projects for renewal and reconstruction, organised in Banjaluka the first public international auction for purchase of 2,100 cattle for border Municipalities of Republika Srpska (RS) - Sipovo, Mrkonjic Grad and Ribnik. The auction was headed by a director of the office Ranko Labovic.

PODGRAB - Metropolitan of Dabro-Bosnia Mr. Nikolaj announced that in 1999 a Dabro -Bosnia eparchy would celebrate 780th anniversary of its foundation. " In the year of 2000 we will celebrate 120th anniversary of Sarajevo seminary, now High theological school - Spiritual Academy in Srbinje" - said the Metropolitan.

PODGRAB - The Metropolitan of Dabro-Bosnia Mr. Nikolaj announced that on June 10th in Srbinje would be brought an icon of Presveta Bogorodica Trojerucica which is at the moment in Zahum-Hercegovina Eparchy. "After that the miraculous icon will be carried to Rudo, Strpci, Dobrun, Visegrad, Srpsko Gorazde, Rogatica, Mokro, Pale, Srpsko Sarajevo and Trnovo", said the Metropolitan Nikolaj.

PRISTINA - Government of the so called Republic of Kosovo issued the statement by which informs Albanians that it imposed new extra tax for "independence of Kosovo". In the announcement is added that the additional tax would paid by all Albanians from Kosovo no matter where they live and work.

BANJALUKA - The highest officials from the Republika Srpska (RS) Socialist Party (SPRS), Serbian People's Union (SNS) and Party of Independent Democrats (SNSD) proposed in Banjaluka for institutions of these parties to make a decision on forming joint coalition for general elections in September. In the joint statement, signed by the SPRS and SNSD presidents Zivko Radisic and Milorad Dodik and the SNS vice-president Ostoja Knezevic is said that the coalition would propose joint candidates for the RS President and Vice-president, the B&H Presidency member from RS and a list of delegates for the House of Representatives of the B&H Parliamentary Assembly.

SARAJEVO - The International Community High Representative Carlos Westendorp issued a proposal of the Memorandum on Understanding for reconstruction of the B&HRTV which will start at once, radio in Federation part of Sarajevo reports. The Memorandum will be signed by members of the B&H Presidency, Momcilo Krajisnik, Kresimir Zubak and Alija Izetbegovic, President of the Independent Union of the B&HRTV workers Miodrag Oljaca and the international representative. Signatories of this document are obligated, during process of general reconstruction of media in B&H, to secure public RTV for B&H and FB&H citizens. Foundation of the FB&HRTV and reconstruction of B&HRTV will start simultaneously.

PRISTINA - A policeman Branko Marjanovic from Pec and Predrag Tomasevic from the village of Banje have been injured at 4:00p.m. near Srbica in Drenica - SRNA correspondent has learned from the local authorities in Srbica. Both of them are now in hospital in Pec and doctors said that their lives were out of the danger.

NEW YORK - The UN Secretary General spokesman Fred Ekhart assessed that situation in Kosovo is getting better and number of refugees from Kosovo to Albania has been significantly reduced. Citing sources of the ICRC Ekhart said that almost 200 men were coming from Kosovo to Albania the week before.
