SEPT. 28 1997 EVENING

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The Direction of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) denied claims by Republic Srpska president Biljana Plavsic that the SDS have been holding talks with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) on exchange of territories. The SDS Direction said in its announcement that "this is not a naive insinuation, but a criminal act of spreading of false information by which the citizens are being disturbed and the political party and its representatives besmirched". It referred to "blanket statements that the construction material for the development of Serb Sarajevo reaches the Federation of B-H by illegal channels", saying that "all those truth seeking know that Serb Sarajevo is largely in the process of development for which this material is used, as it is also known that humanitarian agencies transport the construction material for the B-H Federation through our territory", says the announcement and further reads: "Insinuations on abuse of hard currency reserves belong to domain of criminal law and they require investigation and prosecution, either of those in abuse or those who made insinuations". The SDS points out that "Ms. Plavsic's remarks to ways of the implementation of the Dayton agreement by RS representatives are irresponsible and incorrect".

BEOGRAD - The president of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) Vojislav Seselj, accepts with pleasure all TV duels with the leftist presidential candidate Zoran Lilic, which, according to SRS announcement "is the best way for Serbia to get convinced in ken, ability and of rightness of each candidate's political attitudes".

NOVI SAD - The presidential candidate of the leftist coalition, Zoran Lilic, pointed out that he is committed for the Greater Serbia, but without any aspirations towards the internationally recognised borders of the former Yugoslav republics. While being guest at the Novi Sad TV, Lilic called on citizens of Serbia to on October 5 go to the second round of the presidential elections and choose "leftist programme, which leads Serbia towards economic revival and a comprehensive inclusion into the international courses".

PODGORICA - President of Monte Negro, Momir Bulatovic, assessed that "Serbian Zeta is the stronghold of Monte Negro from which the political option favouring Yugoslavia is being defended together with the will of the people to live in a joint state with Serbia." In front of about 150,00 citizens assembled in Zeta, near Podgorica, to give their full support to Momir Bulatovic in his political battle for the joint life of Monte Negro and Serbia in Yugoslavia, Momir Bulatovic came out against the reformist forces led by Milo Djuaknovic, Bulatovic's main opponent in the elections, accusing him of "being against Yugoslavia, and lacking support of the people".

MOSTAR - Croatian Radio-Herzeg-Bosnia reports that doctors in the Mostar hospital have been fighting for life of 52 yearold Croat, Vidak Kozul, who was physically attacked by Muslim extremists in the Muslim part of Mostar, two days ago. This attack astonished the Croatian people in Western Mostar, claims the Radio, and adds that in this incident the Muslim police have not even tried to inform the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs or Police Direction in the Western, Croat part of Mostar.

PODGORICA - The founder and president of the Cetinje Biennial, Prince Nikola Petrovic, closed the exhibition "New Icon", which provoked fierce reactions by the representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), who assessed the exhibition as "satanic" and demanded its closure. This exhibition, deemed by its organiser to point at "religion derogation and profanation in the contemporary world", was viewed by the SPC as an intention to offend religion. In his announcement issued regarding the closure of the exhibition, Petrovic stated that this SPC's evaluation was not correct, and added that the "exhibition should have presented aspects of the manipulation with religion".

SARAJEVO - Following the fifth round of the RS Chess Premiership,, held in the "Bistrica" Hotel in Jahorina, the Obudovac Chess Club in senior and Doboj Chess Club in junior categories are in the lead.
