AUG. 31 1997 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BIJELJINA - The RS Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) Union credited RS citizens, especially residents of Brcko and Bijeljina, for patriotism they showed in recent days. The RS MUP announced that the MUP employees, determined to protect RS and carry out their duties, cannot be divided by nobody even the president of the Republic. In assuring the legal protection, the Union calls on its employees taken in by various promises to return within the ranks of the unitary MUP.

The Presidency held a session in Han Pijesak from which it sent a message to RS president Biljana Plavsic, the president in the B-H Presidency Momcilo Krajisnik, the president of the RS National Assmelby Dragan Kalinic, RS prime minister Gojko Klickovic and the RS minister for war veterans and war victims issues Vojislav Gligic, that "none has the right to betray the sacred Serbian land, founded on the bones of best Serbian sons and soaked by the blood of Serbian children".

RUDO - The Rudo Municipality, municipal boards of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) and Serbian Radical Party (SRS), municipal association of refugees "St. Sava", veterans association and the Public Security Centre in Rudo, sent a letter of support to people in Semberija, Posavina and Majevica: "Nobody has the right to sell out, for the sake of its own interests, the lives and blood of our children and fathers, built in the splendid fortress of RS".

BANAJLUKA - The deputy in the RS National Assembly and the member of the Main Board of the Socialist Party (SP) for RS, Milovan Stankovic, took part in the forcible takeover of TV transmitter in Duge Njive, near Doboj, confirmed the president of the SP for RS Zivko Radisic. While being guest in the Banjaluka TV Studio yesterday he confirmed Stankovic's participation, thus denying earlier statement of the SP for RS vice-president Dragutin Ilic that "Stankovic and socialists cannot be connected to the forcible seizure of the TV transmitter in Duge Njive". Since a lawsuit was initialled against Stankovic, he is still kept in detention in the Doboj District Court together with other four SP for RS members in the city on charges of disarming the RS MUP members.

BANJALUKA - The UN special rapporteur for human rights, Elizabeth Rehn, expressed her "grave concern", because of, as she said, "continued violation of Constitution and Law in RS and Federation of B-H, which has a negative repercussion on the status of human rights and freedoms in this region". At a press conference in Banjaluka, Rehn stated that she did not want to participate in political games or to support factions or individuals, but underlined that those concerned should honour human rights and freedoms. The UN special rapporteur announced her meting with RS prime minister Gojko KLickovic and education minister Stevan Stevic for Wednesday September 3.

PARIS - The Sunday's edition of "Times" writes that Americans are persistently trying to save the Dayton agreement, and it calls the RS president Biljana Plavsic "Bosniak" president, while refers to RS as "Serb- held area". The author of the article Chris Stephen, quoted US envoy Robert Galbard who said after his meting with Slobodan Milosevic that "Milosevic believes an appropriate of a group of various elements would make RS leaders live-up to their obligations". According to the paper, municipal elections are unlikely to hold on September 13 and 14 when scheduled, because "no voting is possible in a rebellious area".

VIENNA - In Vienna, Bonn and other European anti-Serb power centres already outspoken revelation of the US special envoy for the Balkans Robert Galbard that RS president Biljana Plavsic enjoys a full protection from the USA and the rest of 'mondialised West' is being emphasised. At he same time excessively media hyped-up Galbard's threat against defenders of Serbianhood with a direct US military intervention is accompanied with familiar German anti-Serb fieriness and evident anti-Serb exulting over Brussels decision on SFOR mandate extension and broader authorisations for NATO to sanction Serb media.
