NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SRBINJE - The president of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (RS) Dragan Kalinic, refused claims that he had ordered the Parliament session, planned for August 8, to exert pressure on the RS Constitutional Court, dismissing them as spiteful. In his statement for SRNA, Kalinic said such allegations represented a part of the political concoct, and explained that convened was "a regular Assembly, because we consider that the Assembly can continue its work after the provisional decision was taken by the RS Constitutional Court on July 10."

SRBINJE - The president of the RS National Assembly, Dragan Kalinic, the president of the Club of Representatives of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) Vojislav Maksimovic and the RS minister of interior, Dragan Kijac, talked in Srbinje with the municipal officials about the present economic, political and security situation in the municipality and Republic. A full support was pledged to the RS National Assembly and RS Government in their efforts to find the most painless solution to the current constitutional and political crisis in the Republic which would be in conformity with the RS Constitution and Law.

VISEGRAD - The acting president of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) Aleksa Buha, stated in Blace, near Visegrad, that the RS institutions and citizens would decide on the constitutional crisis in RS. "If the RS Constitutional Court orders that the RS president is right, the Assmelby will be dissolved and new elections organised, but this would require also the presidential elections". assessed Buha at the celebration regarding the sixth anniversary of the district units of the Serbian territorial defence, formed by the SDS.

SARAJEVO - High representative Carlos Westendorp set Monday as deadline for the B-H joint bodies to arrive at agreement on Law on citizenship and Law on passports, and for the distribution of the ambassador posts aboard. Except the extension of this deadline set by the end of May in Sintra, Westendorp prolonged the decision on which of three airports will be reopened for the commercial traffic. Upon his arrival from Banjaluka, where he held discussions with RS president Biljana Plavsic, he explained in Sarajevo that the agreement was not reached due to differences the Muslim and Corat parties, but not due to Serb rejection".

SARAJEVO - The Sintra conclusions called for sanctions, but the sanctions would be counterproductive for B-H, at present, stated presidential advisor in the B-H Presidency, Mirza Hajric, regarding the threats by the Contact Group that the sanctions would be applied because of non-adherence to the deadlines for apportionment of the ambassador posts in the world.

SARAJEVO - Representatives of SFOR, IPTF and Federal police escorted a group of 14 Serbs late last night after they were attacked during their visit to Vogosca by Muslim refuges from Srebrenica, announced SFOR spokesman, major John Blackly, report agencies. The Serbs were paying an organised visit to this Sarajevo municipality and talked with the local authorities about eventual return to their homes they left last year following the signature of the Dayton Agreement, under which this municipality came under control of the B-H Federation.

SARAJEVO - High representative for RS and Federation of B-H, Carlos Westendorp, sharply condemned the attack on Serb refugees in the Sarajevo suburb of Vogosca, categorically claiming that he possessed proves that this crime was prepared and organised. In a letter of protest forwarded to the Federal prime minister, Edhem Bicakcic, he claimed that a group of UNHCR-escorted 13 Serb refugees wanted to visit their homes in Vogosca, when they were attacked by 400 Muslims in front the municipal building in Vogosca.

BONN - The German defence minister, Volker Reuhe, claims in an interview for tomorrow's edition of "Bild am Sontag" that the German soldiers serving within SFOR mission will take part in arrest operations against war crimes suspects in B-H. The commentator of the paper notes that this is somewhat corrected position of the German defence minister, who, after the SFOR operation in Prijedor in which SFOR representatives killed Simo Drljaca and arrested Dr Milan Kovacevic, rushed to say that "German soldiers did not take part in the operation".

RUDO - The president of the Socialist Party for RS, Zivko Radisic, stated in Rudo that "chaos and incrimination of the society, as well as RS break- up, must not be allowed". At a tribune, organised as a part of the election campaign for September elections in RS and Federation of B-H, he criticised Biljana Plavsic "for different positions on national cause and the Agreement on Special Parallel Relations between RS and FR Yugoslavia".

BEOGRAD - The Serbian Democratic Party for the Serbian Lands (SDS SZ) for Serbia, held in Belgrade a consultative session of its Main Board, and adopted the Party's programme. the president of the SDS SZ for Serbia, Dragoljub Kojcic, stated that "the SDS is committed or the creation of a national democratic state, based upon principles of patriotism, democracy, European orientation, freeing of economy from the political monopoly, and social justice".

MOSTAR - The president of Jajce Municipal Council, Jozo Lucic, warned the authorities in Sarajevo that they had to halt the uncontrolled Muslim returns to this area, and that the process must unfold according as planned and with the participation of Croat authorities, which has not been observed thus far, reports Croatian Radio-Herzeg-Bosnia. "We cannot bear responsibility for possible reactions by Jajce residents to irresponsible fashion of mass return of Muslims and to omissions of the international community", stated Lucic.

MOSTAR - The president of the Kakanj Municipal Board of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Miko Lozancic, sent a letter to the international mediator for Federation of B-H Christian Schwartzschilling and OHR representative, Berbel Boley, warning them of Muslim attempts at blocking the agreement on return of refugees to this municipality.

BIJELJINA - Regarding the St. Elijah Day, the Patron Saint of the Public Enterprise "Telecom RS" the new 40 kms long highway optical cable Bijeljna - Pavlovca Most - Sabac was put in operation, which will link RS with the telecommunication cable of PTT Serbia. According to deputy director of the "Telecom RS" Djuro Stanojevic, this cable will link RS with Yugoslavia for regional and international traffic.

PRIJEDOR - In Ostra Luka, the centre of the municipality of Srpski Sanski Most, the "Susnjar 97" celebration was held to mark the St. Elijah Day, and the commemoration was served for 5,000 victims of the Ustashe and Fascist terror in WWII and deceased soldiers form the patriotic war.
