NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJA LUKA - The new Government of the Great Britain is ready to help Republika Srpska /RS/ and to continue the successful cooperation - stated the president of Republika Srpska /RS/ Biljana Plavsic, after the meeting with the minister of Defence of Great Britain George Robertson in Banja Luka. "Mr. Robertson conveyed us the attitude of Great Britain's Government that nothing is changed in connection with the policy in these regions", said Ms. Plavsic, and stressed that they talked about previous assistance of UK in rehabilitation of schools and health facilities in RS.

SARAJEVO - In the area of the former military barracks "Slobodan Princip Seljo", in Srpsko Sarajevo, temporarily is being built 66 housing objects, while on Mladicko Polje started the construction of 430 apartments. This is concluded at the meeting in Lukavica of the president in the Presidency of B&H from RS Momcilo Krajisnik and the governor of the National Bank of RS Manojlo Djoric with the representatives of the Agency of the Serbian Sarajevo with the mayor Mirko Saric at his head and the representatives of municipalities and economical companies of Serbian Ilidza, New Sarajevo and Trnovo.

BIJELJINA - The process of finding the captured and missing persons would be revitalised and has to get the necessary dynamics - it is concluded at the meeting of the Chief of General Staff of the RS Army /VRS/ general- major Pero Colic and deputy chief of the delegation of ICRC for B&H Pierre Crambill. It is suggested that state commissions would be set up for searching the detained soldiers, which will comprise the representatives of VRS and Army of Federation of B&H /FB&H/, so the new and more efficacious system of work would be established.

SARAJEVO - The executive directors of the World Bank at the spot assured themselves of the high level of material detriment in the region of RS, assessing that it needs emergency rehabilitation, and they are encouraged by the readiness of the RS Government on all forms of cooperation with this bank. In Lukavica, they presented to the representatives of RS Governments their impressions about the status of renewal in RS and necessary measurements for the further improvement of cooperation. The vice-president of RS Government Velibor Ostojic acquainted guests with the political views of the Government regarding the implementation of the Dayton Agreement, and expressed his conviction that the Donor's Conference in Brussels will be held soon.

SARAJEVO - The reconstruction of RS and FB&H is, in this moment, one of the most important conditions for preserving the peace - stated in Sarajevo Boro Bosic, the co-presiding of the Council of Ministers of B&H. He, after the talks with the high delegation of the World Bank from Washington about the implementation of projects of this bank in B&H, where was present also Haris Silajdzic, stressed that "the economic situation in B&H is extraordinarily difficult because of the great number of unemployed people". "It can easily escalate in the social unrest which some agents of war options, unfortunately they still exist, wish to use for their goals", stressed Mr. Bosic.

ZVORNIK - The Police Station in Zvornik insists on the reexamination of the procedure and points out at the possible consequences of ban on local police to control the persons and vehicles on the territory of RS in accordance with the valid regulations. On May 10, 1997, the IPTF commissioner determined the procedure for check-points, which takes away the right for the local police to conduct the control of persons and vehicles going across the inter-entity borders. The procedure came into effect on May 15 and already resulted in the series of unclearness, it is reported from the sources close to IPTF.
