NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The vice-president of Republika Srpska (RS) Dragoljub Mirjanic talked in Temishvar in Rumania, with representatives of the Rumanian education system on development and promotion of science in RS and cooperation between the two countries. "The talks on promotion of high education in RS are being held with mutual pleasure", stated the RS vice- president in his telephone statement for SRNA.

BEOGRAD - The deputies of the Council of Republic and Council of Peoples in the Federal Yugoslav Assembly ratified the Agreement on special parallel relations between RS and FRY. The Council of Republics president, Srdja Boskovic, called the agreement "the corner stone of the future relations between FRY and RS and future relations of the two countries with other Balkan states". "This agreement underlines commitment for peace, liberty and law observance. We ratify this document as the wish of the Serbian people and which marks the start of its better life", stated the vice- president of the Council of Republics, Radmilo Bogdanovic. The deputies of the Party of Democratic Action from Sanjak and Monte Negro voted against the ratification, while representatives of the National Party of Monte Negro were abstained. Representatives of the Coalition Together and Democratic Party of Serbia did not attend the sessions at all.

ZVORNIK - A member of a Muslim terrorist group from Srebrenica, Ahmo Harbas who is the second convicted for the murder of four Serbs from Milici, in May last year, tried, from the Bijeljina prison, to send instructions to his wife in Tuzla for the kidnapping of IPTF members who should have been exchanged for Muslim terrorists.

THE HAGUE - In the sequel of trial to perpetrators of the crimes against the Serbs in the Celebici prisoner camp, the Hague Tribunal did not want to hear testimonies of nine witnesses who were proposed by the Association of Former Prisoners, but in stead, Jean Mari Calic, who is the follower of the Bonn policy, was given a chance to testify. In contrary to what the Association of Former Prisoners said, she claimed that "the war in B-H was not the civil war but the war waged by two states, B-H and Serbia. "

HELSINKI - The Russian president, Boris Yeltzin will "defend national interests of Russia as never before", at his meeting with US president Bill Clinton, stated Yeltzin's spokesman, Sergey Yastrzembsky, before the summit. He believes that "the purpose of the summit is not to find a concrete or final agreement, but to achieve better understanding of the US decision to expand NATO eastwards, and Russian concern over the decision.

BRUSSELS - The EU is not interested in intervention in Albania, in which the events went out of internal and external control, claim Brussels circles close to the European Commission, adding that such an intervention would mean a complete occupation of the country. While making comparison with negative experiences in Somalia, where a similar intervention experienced fiasco a few years ago, circles close to the European Commission note that the EU has no interest in repeating such experiences.

ATHENS - A sudden meeting between the Greek foreign minister Teodoros Pangalos and the president of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (BJRM), Kiro Gligorov in Skoplje, is an historic event, which should first of all contribute the normalisation of the Athens-Skoplje relations, assess the Greek media. Albanian riot and uncertainty, which threaten the Balkan region, was the motive for a sudden decision to visit Skoplje and Belgrade, in order to urge BJRM and Yugoslavia to undertake necessary steps towards the prevention of expansion of the crisis, first of all to BJRM, Kossovo and Metohija.

TOMISLAVGRAD - Muslim authorities from Tomislavgrad believe that the razing of the mosque in the village of Stipanovici, for which the Croats bear responsibility, "is an terroristic act aimed at destruction of Muslim cultural heritage in the region". The Muslim Radio-Sarajevo reports the newest attacks on Muslim religious buildings indicate at a clear intention of further implementation of Croat policy of ethnic cleansing".
