NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - Republika Srpska Government (RS) decided, at its session in Banjaluka, that August pensions should be paid to all pensioners in Republika Srpska from additional budget until Christmas. This decision was brought after talks between the Government vice-presidents Velibor Ostojic and Djuradj Banjac with representatives of the RS Pensioners Union in Banjaluka.

PARIS - The beginning of this, 1996 year, was marked by dramatic exodus of Serbs from Serb Sarajevo. It was marked by endless columns of vehicles passing snowy roads, and carrying Serb children, elderly and exhausted people, who were leaving their homes, heroically defended throughout the war. They were leaving, taking with them remains of their dearest ones, writes SRNA's commentary.

AMSTERDAM - The beginning of 1996, will be remembered by the implementation of the civilian part of the Dayton agreement, which directly brought about a great exodus of the Serbs, this is a conclusion of the Dutch media, which then reported of hundreds and hundreds of Serbs travelling over mountain curves, leaving their native city in columns of lorries, buses and other vehicles, trying to reach Pale, during days and nights of severe storm.

BERLIN - The former EU administrator in Mostar, Hans Koschnik, opposes the reimposition of sanctions against Yugoslavia, for "they would affect the Serb populace" , writes "Junge Welt", adding that Koschnik prescribes a "political isolation of Serbia".

SKOPLJE - The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (BJRM) enters the new year with huge social, national and other unresolved problems, with its unemployment rate being the highest in Europe, while its state annual product is behind that of Albania.

MOSCOW - The presidential elections, won by Boris Yeltzin, then, his illness and successful heart surgery, marked 1996. According to polls conducted in Russia, Boris Yeltzin and Victor Chernomidin, are selected the most popular figures of the year.

BEOGRAD - The Yugoslav basketball player, Sasa Danilovic, granted his DM 9, 000 award, won during Olympic Games in Atlanta this summer, to children in Serb Sarajevo, confirmed Ranka Jelicic, an assistant with the Centre for War Orphans in Belgrade.
